Longleat safari park no longer accept blue light card.. I’m so disappointed. They only accept emergency service ID now. I work in education and can’t only assume I no longer fit the bill 😒

How often do you go for this to be something that has bothered you enough to start a thread about it?!

A lot of places have stopped doing since Covid.

I have a blue light card. When somewhere offers the discount then great. If they don’t or they stop doing so then it’s just one of those things! Not worth getting bothered about.

It’s a perk isn’t it? Nice if you can get it but surely you can survive without it?!

Maybe because it realised that many holders have received pay rises in excess of inflation and a lot of ordinary workers in the private sector

I don’t agree in singling out a particular group of professions for a discount that many other ordinary working people can’t access

I never understood why this was a thing in Covid. I worked my ass off in the public sector, doing my usual job and something unrelated and emotionally draining but absolutely necessary during Covid, while those around me were on furlough. No recognition whatsoever.

Giving the blue light card to teachers resulted in a lot of places removing it as just too many people eligible. Should go back to how it was.

I worked my ass off in COVID too. Working as normal. In no PPE. Inches from people's faces. Pregnant.
Doing cancer biopsies.
There was absolutely no regard for my health or my unborn child. I was expected to continue putting myself on the line for the NHS. And I did.
So maybe, just maybe, having a discount is a nice way of giving a little back to people like me who go above and beyond every day and continue to do so.

Yes, apologies if that came out wrong @LacharcuterieI absolutely agree that anyone in the frontline NHS is deserving of Blue Light card.

The thing is, it’s not just frontline staff that can get Bluelight cards, but anyone working for a doctors surgery, for example, including admin staff etc. You could argue that the essential stuff that goes on behind the scenes supports the frontline staff. As long as you have an NHS email, you can get one, I think.

Just email them op and ask why.

Honestly, good. Blue light discount is madness. My sister works as admin in a hospital and has one! How is that more deserving than another admin job? Or why have we decided some public services get them but not others - private dentists get it but bin men aren’t eligible!

My friend has a BLC… she is an office worker for a private company that works alongside social work. BLC has become so vast that it means very little any more.

Agreed - the discounts dropped off a cliff when it was extended to teachers. We’re not an emergency service so I didn’t really understand the thinking behind it either!
