Are packing cubes worth it?

What do people think of packing cubes, are they really worth it? Why will they improve my life?! How do you use them to get the best out of them, how do you sort things?

I love them!

I either pack them as tops/bottoms/undies
/other

or whole outfits in each.

I have two sets; one set is compression bags, and one set is soft enough to fit into the shape of my big travel bag.

If you’re on the kind of trip where you’re moving on every day or two, they’re great - you just pull out what’s needed without rummaging. A cube of T-shirts is a pretty robust thing whereas layers of T-shirts inevitably get mangled with repeated handling. They also mean even the smallest rucksacks and even laptop cases can be used for packing clothes.

I don’t get unused spaces between cubes as I don’t bother with them for things like jeans, beach towels. There is something for every gap!

They’re no use at all for packing a suitcase. I think they actually make it harder to fit everything in.
However - I repurposed mine for storing bedlinen, and there they are a godsend. Just the right size to store a duvet cover, bottom sheet and 4 pillowcases. Now I can always find a complete set to change the bed, and they fit nicely side by side in the drawer.

Not what you were asking, I know. But if you tried them out and didn’t like them for travelling, they don’t necessarily go to waste.

I have had mine for far longer than Temu have been around! Compression ones are from Eagle Creek, thin ones from Ikea.

I love my packing cubes. I have two sets so I have a variety of different sizes. They fit well in my case as they are rectangles and small squares etc. Keeps everything tidy and I have one cube for PJs, one for bikinis etc. Makes unpacking easier, too.

Yes and no. I loved them when I was living out of my backpack as I didn’t have to rummage to the bottom to find the one missing sock!
I also find them useful if we’re staying at different locations, again I pack so I can just take our one cube of clean clothing, then pack it away with clothes that need a wash etc.
Pointless if staying in one place for the duration of work / holiday.

to add I did find them useful when kids were little and their clothing came in my suitcase.

Absolutely worth it. I use the compression zip bags. When you get to your holiday destination you can just unzip the bag containing T shirts/ undies/. Shorts etc and use from the bag rather than unpacking everything.
