Are packing cubes worth it?

What do people think of packing cubes, are they really worth it? Why will they improve my life?! How do you use them to get the best out of them, how do you sort things?

The benefit for me is organising my stuff but I don’t think it saves space. They’re most valuable for trips where you’re not going to unpack your whole suitcase so you can easily find things.

Justploddingonandon · 09/07/2026 15:32

I like them. Not sure they take up less space (I don't have the compression ones), but are good for seeing who's stuff is who's as I gave everyone a different colour. I also find them handy for stopping small things like pants and socks disappearing into the depths of the suitcase.
They also double as dirty laundry bags I can just chuck in the utility room when we get back.

Settlersa · 09/07/2026 15:32

They are very good for caravans, motor homes, camping, stuff like that as it keeps it very organised in small cupboards I think in a case they would be useful for things like underwear

bittertwisted · 09/07/2026 15:33

I absolutely love them, especially if multi centre because you can identify what needs to be taken out

parachutegirl · 09/07/2026 15:42

It depends. Sometimes we take one large hold suitcase between the two of us and packing cubes obviously help us keep our stuff separated and organised. When I’m just taking my own case I don’t bother.

PicaK · 09/07/2026 15:51

I always put 1 change of clothes and swimwear in hand luggage - packing cube really handy for keeping it all together in my bag.
I did a trip moving every 2 days and I prepacked cubes with outfits for each move.
But I wouldn't use them in my luggage for a week all inclusive

notatinydancer · 09/07/2026 15:58

I travel a lot. The decent zip up ones are definitely worth it.
I can definitely fit more in.

Xiaoxiong · 09/07/2026 15:59

I always thought they were a gimmick, but I got a set for free with a new suitcase and now I love them. I give each DC a big one for clothes, a small one for underwear, and then it's easy to pack and unpack.

Crazymadchickenlady · 09/07/2026 15:59

I love mine. Also great if your hand luggage only and have to open your case at security. Your underwear is then not on show for everyone. Also don’t bother. Unpacking the underwear cube just chuck it in the drawer at the hotel/holiday flat.

Femalefootyfan1 · 09/07/2026 16:04

DH and I use them as we mix our clothes, shoes etc across two suitcases. I tend to roll as much as I can whereas he folds his stuff. We have a mixture of compression and plain zippered ones. I use them when there’s just me going somewhere too. I like that they keep every neat and tidy in either a suitcase or hold-all.

PauliesWalnuts · 09/07/2026 16:07

I love them for on the move and for camping - I have several for tops, bottoms, cycling/hiking kit, and underwear. I use them like they are a separate drawer for each type of item but I don't use them for footwear.

AgnesMcDoo · 09/07/2026 16:10

I swear by them.

it keeps all my clothes organised and saves space.

if people think they take up more space then they aren’t using them properly 😊🤣

Papyrophile · 09/07/2026 16:10

I love them. Each person has a set of four, smallest for cables and plugs, one for undies, another for tops and the biggest for dresses/trousers. Makes packing and unpacking a cinch.

NorthEastNancy · 09/07/2026 16:10

I love them. Wardrobe space is often weird in hotels so I pack mine and ds' in cubes and we can just chuck the cubes on a shelf when we arrive and live out of them.

I packed mine last night.
One for swimmers
One for day dresses, shorts and vests
One for evening dresses
One for undies

Means when I add stuff I can pop it in the right cube (cuboid actually 😜)

Are packing cubes worth it?
pinkspeakers · 09/07/2026 16:22

I think it depends on what kind of travelling you do. We often do trips where we move on every couple of days. It is then much easier to stay organised during the trip if you have one cube with underwear in, another with tops in, another with other small items (hats/gloves/swimming things/shorts whatever).Larger pieces of clothing I just pack normally. You need a bag/cube for dirty laundry too. At each different destination, my cubes might come out of the bag, but most items I don't use stay in their cube. You can then always find everything with minimal rummaging around.

If I just went to one place and stayed for a week and unpacked fully while I was there then I'm not sure there would be much benefit really.

I like them for family holidays because it makes it super easy to know what belongs to whom. Each family member has their own colour. Wouldn’t bother for a solo trip though.

This! We usually share a suitcase and I like them for separating everything out. However outgrowing this now so I love the suggestion on here of everyone having their own colour. Also fab for camping.

When I'm travelling solo I have one for smaller items and nightwear, separate bag for any special items like a towel and swimming costume for example. Then toiletries and shoes in their own bags. Everything else loose unless I want the compression element.

sohard · 09/07/2026 16:39

Love them. So much easier when there’s no decent clothes storage in the hotel room and you’re living out of your suitcase. So much easier to find things. Or even if there are drawers it’s so easy to put them in them.

LasVegass · 09/07/2026 16:44

DD is sharing a suitcase with two friends and she knows she needs to pack just two cubes, so I think it helps.

MrsVBS · 09/07/2026 16:53

Absolutely lovely them, put day dresses in one, night out dresses in another (all rolled up) then nightwear/walking outfit etc in another. Always use them now and they appeal to my over organised mind that everything is sorted properly!

hahabahbag · 09/07/2026 16:56

I use packing bags for organising rather than getting more in, particularly for road trips so you don’t have to lug all the luggage in each night, particularly useful for so called 4 star hotels without lifts! , I can quickly grab one bag.

CloudyWithAChanceOfCustard · 09/07/2026 16:56

I like them as I pack complete outfits (including accessories) in one bag, zip it and pop it in my case. I have the thin double zip ones (not cubes) which help with organising. I don’t overpack this way 🤷‍♀️

namechange6766333545544 · 09/07/2026 17:01

I love them for camping because it helps with organising a small space, but I think they’re a bit overhyped for fitting in luggage etc. I do use mine because I can keep outfits together in individual cubes. I’m quite organised and plan my outfits individually for each day of the holiday.

No, they don’t fit the case or the clothes/shoes. Another daft TEMU idea to keep us spending.

I have adopted the principle though, a drawstring bag for underwear as I can also pack my used stuff in it for the return and a canvas supermarket tote/shopper that I put my flip flops/sandals in and roll. Keeps my other clothes clean and gives me a shopping bag whilst I am away.

I don't use temu and they pre-date everyone buying everything from there anyway.

Buy stuff that lasts that isn't made by children and slaves!

Absolutely, or not at all.

Wonderknicks · 09/07/2026 17:43

Which did tests on them & founds that you could pack more just folding your clothes. I do use them for holidays where I'm moving on every couple of days, it makes finding things easier.
If I can find the Which thing on Instagram I'll post it.
