What's your takeaway curry order?

Random for a Tuesday, but takeaway curry it is, for me and himself.
Chicken biryani to share, palak aloo, salmon tikka, chapattis and poppadoms with raita.
Can't bloomin wait. Cold beers are in the fridge.
What would your order be?

What?!! Supermarket Indian starters are awful. Proper Indian starters, for me, are better than the mains!

Oh god, yes. I love real Indian starters but don’t think they travel well, so mostly just order them when sitting in. Supermarket ones are a travesty.

Lamb Bhuna
Prawn Bhuna

You forgot the bag of chips!

FurForksSake · 07/07/2026 19:35

Our local Indian starters are horrible - tiny and expensive.

I'm not a particular Indian food aficionado so the Tesco ones do me fine.

Butterontoastandtea · 07/07/2026 19:44

Chicken Dansak
Mushroom rice
Peshwari Naan
Sides vary - onion bhajis / sag paneer / Bombay aloo / mushroom bhaji

managingexpectations · 07/07/2026 19:49

we use 2 different places
the first one we order lamb bhuna, North Indian chilli garlic chicken, a garlic naan and rice

the second we either order a few starters and have it tapas style or we order lamb lasooni, chicken kadai or their house curry depending what we fancy. Again with a rice and a garlic naan

Alouest · 07/07/2026 19:53

Tandoori fish, dal, okra, rice, nan bread or parathas, and all the poppadums with chutneys.

RoosterSpud · 07/07/2026 19:55

Chicken tikka biryani with vegetable curry to myself (always), portion of chips (shared), poppadoms and sometimes a garlic naan (also shared).

DC don't like curry so will share the chips but have something else for dinner.

TrtseHkpr · 07/07/2026 19:58

Onion bhaji, veg samosas, veg nawabi, butter chicken, plain naan, peshwari naan, poppadoms and pickles. Yum!

GameOfJones · 07/07/2026 19:58

Veggie dansak with peshwari naan for me.

Chicken bhuna with garlic naan for DH.

Chicken makhani and pilau rice for DDs to share.

Tarka dhal, onion bhajis and poppadoms as sides/starters.

I don't think we've had an Indian takeaway for two or three years though as they're so expensive round us!

Pistachiocake · 07/07/2026 20:01

Ours is from a restaurant (that does take out) so they will adjust any dish and make it spicier/sweeter/add more veg, so Tikka with extra spice and Zalzala with extra garlic. Minced lamb naan.

Gettoachiro · 07/07/2026 20:02

I am surprised by the lack of chips with the curries!?

For me it's Chicken madras, a shared egg fried rice, a paratha and a shared chips.

Friday is the next curry night 😋

Scaryspicer · 07/07/2026 20:06

Mine is always chicken madras, mushroom pilau rice, plain naan.

dh is prawn korai, pilau rice and cheese naan.

Alouest · 07/07/2026 20:14

I've never had chips with a curry. The rice and bread is enough carbs for me! I don't think I could manage chips as well, though it does sound nice.

ebfwtf · 07/07/2026 20:24

Lamb saag, peshwari naan, bhindi bhaji or aloo gobi.
Steal some of my husbands pilau
and now I’m starving

pompomtiddly · 07/07/2026 20:29

onion bhajies to share
poppadoms and all the bits
Veg dhansak/veg pathia + plain naan for me
sides of tarka dhal, Bombay alloo + sag paneer + garlic naan for hubby
Always does 2 nights 😋

patooties · 07/07/2026 20:31

Mixed grill with salad (we eat the salad!) and poppadoms with red onion, mango chutney and raita.

Tandoori fish and tandoori chicken
butter or pepper chicken. Lamb Karachi.

plain naan, chips, mushroom pilau.

troppibambini6 · 07/07/2026 20:32

Poppadoms
lamb chops
chicken rogan Josh
mushroom rice
keema naan

YouBelongWithMe · 07/07/2026 21:04

I ordered an Indian takeaway based on this thread, and sat smugly back for it to arrive.

50m later I was concerned, and went to check the order. They are closed today and it pre-ordered for TOMORROW instead.

I might actually cry.

TheChosenTwo · 07/07/2026 21:07

Prawn puri, onion bhaji and saag paneer please!
We ended up with fish and chips last night, dh declared himself too tired to cook after being up in the night for the football 😂 it’s my worst takeaway but I haven’t had it for years and actually really enjoyed it so probably no takeaway for me again for a while (MJ) but the boys pretty much get one a week!

FurForksSake · 07/07/2026 21:08

I’ve never had chips from the curry house, can’t imagine it. But then I also don’t eat rice. A little naan is enough for me with the curry and sides.

ThereIsATInWater · 07/07/2026 21:25

Depends on my mood
But 2 usual orders are either

Onion bhaji, chicken tikka biryani with a mild veg curry, peshawari nan.

Or

Meal for 1
Chicken tikka starter.
Chicken bhuna
Pilau rice
Bombay potatoes.
Plain naan.

Both come with salad bags, raita and poppadoms as standard.

wishfulthinking25 · 07/07/2026 21:25

Chicken tikka masala
chicken dhansak
saag aloo
mushroom pilau
plain naan and pops

BlueSherbet · 07/07/2026 21:57

I like pakoras - NOT mushroom (unclean!) - veg, chicken, fish, haggis even.

I like spicy onions / poppadoms too.

I like various dishes, but usually cant see past Chicken Rogan Josh.

Love a bit of naan or a chapati for the sauce too.

Time was I could pack away a portion of rice AND a naan on my own, but nowadays its more sensible to share!
