To think we aren't outliers ?

Im 5 foot 3. DS is 9 and 131cm. Surely we aren't outliers height wise ? People feel the need to tell us we're tiny constantly. A little odd no?

No doubt some do. Just as many short people bang on about how "tiny" they are. While at the same time asking tall people to get things off the top shelves at supermarkets for them...

I'm tall and in my experience short women are the worst for bringing up how small they are, how small their hands are, etc etc. Often using tall people as a prop to bring it into conversation lol

It really annoys me when people who are five three go on about how wee they are. Oh I'm only wee oh I'm a fairy me oh I could fit in a pocket and a thimble of soup is enough for me!

I don't believe anyone else comments on it cos you're not little. You're bang average.

Especially when they complain about seeing nothing at gigs and proceed to stand right in front of you like EVERYONE should be able to see above their tiny ass.
No thought that there are plenty much smaller.

BaffledAndBemusedToo · 07/07/2026 13:19

I’m 5’3” and I’ve been called short all my life. People don’t seem to be able to help themselves! 🤣

the80sweregreat · 07/07/2026 13:20

I hated being tall. Women were not meant to be 5 foot 9. I don’t mind it now, but back as teen I’d get all the comments about being taller. My shorter friends didn’t like being too short though.

Very true! I'm 5'2" and the only people I hear call people my height, or similar "tiny," are the "tiny" ones themselves!

tealandteal · 07/07/2026 13:24

It’s all relative isn’t it, my husband is 6ft 6 and most people are small to him. I wouldn’t say 5ft 3 is tiny.

Yes, I'm 5'7 and have dealt with the massive feet and hands comments from 'tiny' women my entire life as a put down (usually in front of men lol). It's weird because small people don't seem to understand proportions. As someone mentioned above they are 5'3 and a size 10 - visually equivalent to my size 14 at 5'7 but they would think they are slim because of the size 10 label, when I'm size 10 I am incredibly boney. 5'3 is short in modern standards, people are just much taller than previous generations due to better nutrition.

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 07/07/2026 13:27

I’m 5’5 but I normally wear big platform shoes so the only time it really gets commented on is when I’m in my trainers. I’ve ran into people at the gym and I almost always get “oh my god I thought you were much taller!” It’s fair enough I guess. I normally say “still above average height for a woman in Scotland though!”

I do get a lot of flack at family gatherings though as I am significantly shorter than my siblings I guess it’s because I was a premature? I do look small in some family pics especially if I don’t have my shoes on and it does look kind of funny.

BrownWoodenChair · 07/07/2026 15:47

And i never say I'm teeny tiny as im not !

I know ! I saw this reel on Instagram about this lady who is 5 foot 9 saying women when youre 5 foot 3 stop saying you are teeny tiny

The only solution is to stop watching instagram reels. That's a ridiculous notion. 5 foot 4 is about average for a woman, and you are one inch shorter.

Crunchymum · 07/07/2026 16:26

I'm 5ft 1in and since losing (5st) weight the tiny comments have started.

To be fair I am tiny compared to how big I was. I do feel quite short but I think I just hang out with tall people 😂

ohyesido · 07/07/2026 16:48

I get what you’re saying. I was head and shoulders above my fellow pupils aged 9, constantly feeling self conscious for being unusually tall wasn’t fun

RaraRachael · 07/07/2026 17:18

I always thought 5 foot 3 was considered average for a British woman. I'm 5 foot 6 and am taller than most of my friends although I feel tiny when I'm with my 5.10 daughter and 6.3 son.

My sister is 4 foot 10. I'd rather be my height than hers.

Indianajet · 07/07/2026 17:23

I am 5ft - I just feel normal.

I’m with you on this. I’ve known people who are 5’3” go on about being tiny yet my 5’2” mum seems really normal to me.

There’s a lady at work who apparently gets asked for ID all the time Nevada she’s “little and looks so young” - she’s 5’3” and 40… and looks 40. It’s an odd comment.

UniquePinkSwan · 07/07/2026 17:34

I’m 5ft 3 and get called small at work but it doesn’t bother me because I am small.

No you're not!

AlgaeDreams · 07/07/2026 18:10

I'm 5'8, my son is 6'4, my Mum is 4'10.

We're like that comedy sketch with John Cleese and the Two Ronnies.

Plenty of time to shoot up at age 9. I don't tend to notice these things. I've never felt taller than average. It's a few inches, I'm hardly bending down to speak to you.
Son might though 😂

2026newname · 07/07/2026 18:24

Average height is 5ft 4 (UK)so 5ft 3 isn’t particularly small. It’s literally a tiny bit below average.

BrownWoodenChair · 07/07/2026 18:46

I literally think people look for something to say sometimes lol

I’m 5”3 and honestly don’t think anyone has ever commented on my height in my life, it’s so average

Google says the average height for women in the UK if 5 foot 3.6 inches, so the OP is only half an inch below average.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 07/07/2026 19:20

I'm a couple of inches shorter than you, people rarely comment on my height. A couple of times meeting people in real life at work after we've known each other on Teams I'll get 'You're shorter than I expected!'. But they're not calling me short, just letting me know I don't give short vibes I think 😄

And nobody's ever called me tiny, how strange that people are saying that - you must live among giants. My husband calls me his 'little' whatever, because he physically holds me and is significantly bigger than me.

Pistachiocake · 07/07/2026 20:30

Izzyink · 07/07/2026 12:46

I wouldn't call 5ft 3 tiny.

Isn't it the official average height for a woman? Obviously some places tend to have taller ones, and if you're looking at a younger age group, their average might be higher.
But definitely not an outlier!

Jellylasagnafortwo · 07/07/2026 20:42

People feel the need to tell us we're tiny constantly.

Constantly?
That’s quite bizarre. I’m not as tall as you and a smaller dress size yet although some people remind me occasionally (in case I’ve not noticed obviously) it’s certainly not a regular thing.

The people around you are unusual.
