Does anyone else hate having their hair cut? (light hearted, kind of)

I rarely have my hair cut for various reasons.
I have it cut, then ignore it, it grows and gets piled up on my head every day, I get fed up 12 months later and have it cut again. I hate my hair anyway - it’s lank, fine, thinning rapidly due to severe anaemia plus other deficiencies and greying at a rate of knots.

I don’t have a regular hair salon and am always underwhelmed after a visit to a new one (end up snipping bits off that annoy me as soon as I get home) so I never return to the same one.
Last time I went to one, the stylist was pleasant enough, gave me a bit of advice re: which colour to go for when it was time to box dye it and I was given a loyalty card. Well, my hair is shocking again so I booked to return to the same salon today.
I’ve left so despondent again. She barely spoke to me, asked for a reference photo, said “oh I like that” but then proceeded to do my hair nothing like the photo 🙈 I did say several times that I wanted it all cut off but she just said “maybe go a bit shorter this time and do a big chop next time, especially if you don’t want to cut it regularly”. I just gave up
in the end, let her cut (well, trim) it and left.
Another one off the list.

I have accepted that I will never have the lush thick hair of my dreams but just hate the disappointment of it all.

Anyone else?

I cut and dye mine at home. You can train yourself to do it. I've only ever had one hairdresser i liked who actually cut my hair how i wanted it. Plus i hate the chit chat, and the robes and the sitting around with wet hair. Everyone is surprised when i say i cut my own! Save about £500 a year!

I hate it in the same way I hate the dentist 😅. I hate when they try massage my head after washing my hair, I have to ask them not to, one guy kept tugging on my ears one time as part of this “relaxing hair wash” I have no idea what that was about! Totally freaked me out and I’ve never been back there again. I hate the noise, the overpowering hair dye hair spray smell and the awkward small talk. And you pay an eye watering amount for it these days! My husband cuts it now! When I can remember to ask him

Glad I'm not alone in hating hairdresser appointments! The faff of booking in advance, small talk, hate the head massage during washing, the time (and money) it takes, then I don't always get what I asked for! Plus they usually cut too much off which causes my curls to spring up and look significantly shorter. My hair doesn't take well to blow drying so usually have to leave with it wet then not see the full results until it's dry at home - arrghhh!

Feel better for the rant above! Thanks op.

I've not read the full thread yet so this may have already been asked for, but those of you happy with the results of cutting at home please could you point me in the direction of decent instruction videos or describe how you cut your hair at home - please! 🙂

With the small talk woes and I get it, do people just not find reading stops it? Either a book or magazines.

I get very overstimulated by the hairdryer and having someone touch my hair for ages, so I only go every two years.
I grow my hair until it’s 12 inches of ponytail so I can donate the cut hair to a charity that makes wigs for young cancer patients, that way I feel like the hassle of a haircut is at least doing some good.
The vicar’s wife cuts hair at the vicarage and is fine not talking much and minimising hairdryer styling. She does a dry cut and gets it done quickly without fuss. She’s done my last decade of haircuts.

Yes - I cut my own - watched you-tube videos on it.

I like getting my hair cut but I always say don't bother with the blow dry, just rough dry it because I don't want it and she does it anyway.

I don't like having highlights done because it takes so long but I do like the result, so suck it up.

No way could I cut my own. I tried to cut DS's hair during lockdown and lets say he didn't let me near it again!
