How do you count business days?

I had a scan this morning, just before 9am.

They say they will have the results with me within 3 business days. In my mind, today was the first day - because of how early the scan was. Then tomorrow is day 2, and Wednesday day 3.

Is this correct?

I managed to sleep, but woke up early. It’s really not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but it’s a step closer to a solution after a year of pain and misery

I’m just so anxious, I’ve been waiting so long to get to this point. I thought the whole point was that it would be fast.

3 days is pretty fast if you're waiting fr a diagnosis. What do you want - fast or accurate?

The woman at the scanning centre made it sound as if it would be same day, she said “the absolute longest” will be three days. It’s also four, really, seeing as the scan was before the start of business yesterday

If you owe a business money they’ll count the same day as a business day.
If they owe you money they’ll start from the first full day.
Call me bitter and twisted…
Like getting a refund. They took your £ when you placed your order. Took a week to deliver.
You send it back and it takes them 14 business days from when they receive the good to put the £ back in your account.

The day is dragging. I just cannot focus on anything

I went private, not NHS

I can’t focus on a thing. It’s so so frustrating to know they know, but haven’t told me what’s wrong yet

It's 3 working days - you're getting fixated on the 4 days thing but it won't help to stew.

pambeesleyhalpert · 30/06/2026 13:54

Id find it reassuring that they haven’t contacted you yet op

Bjorkdidit · 30/06/2026 14:07

Depending on their processes, they might batch up all the scans from yesterday to be dealt with and reported on by the end of Thursday, which is when I'd count three business days to extend to.

You having a scan at 8.30 (for example) is unlikely to accelerate the results by a day compared with one done at 9.10 on the same day.

I hope the result doesn't take too long and it helps your treatment progress.

This could be a good point. There could be a 'first pass' of anything of significant concern to be fully processed more quickly eg within a day or two, but those which look like they're probably nothing of concern left until after the urgent ones have been dealt with, so taking to the end of the three days.

It's still quick though. Private is quicker but it's not magic you still need people to review scans etc.

Not really. It’s not that sort of scam.

Until you’ve lived with extreme pain for a year and now you’re achingly close to finding an answer, I don’t think you understand how tortuous this is

Also - if there’s something to worry about as a self referred patient, it goes to my gp. So not overly reassuring

I am so bad at waiting 🤣 it just kills me that someone else knows what’s happening and I don’t

Given how early how scan was, I'd have asked for clarification on what they counted as day 1. I hope the results come through as quickly as possible for you, op.

Yeah I am tempted to call them because it could well be day 3 today. I’m just torturing myself at this point

I’ve emailed them to chase. Today is definitely day 3 when you look at it, so I don’t see the justification for the delay.

You've decided it's day 3. It's not. You are stressing yourself further by counting the minutes.

SirChenjins · 01/07/2026 13:19

You will know when you know. I think for the sake of your sanity, you need to find other things to focus on while this wait is going on. You can't control the timescale unfortunately, but you can control how you deal with it.

Of course it’s day 3. Monday was day 1, yesterday was day 2, today is day 3.

When you pay a lot of money for a service, you expect that service to be carried out in a timely manner.

Not necessarily - many of us on here have said we would count Tuesday as day 1. It's only half way through Wednesday, so it could be tomorrow - or even Friday.

What are you doing today to keep busy?

No, three business days ends today. If they can’t keep to those standards, they shouldn’t advertise that service.

My daily routine is none of your business whatsoever.
