Will baby be a red head or too early to tell?

Hi, baby is 3 weeks old and looks a very light ginger 😍 white eyebrows and what looks like blonde/warm lashes. Anyone’s child born this colour and it’s stayed or changed completely? Curious 😁

Definitely a red head, imo. Congratulations!

FunMustard · 20/06/2026 23:13

Mine were only redheads while they were newborns. By the time they'd started to fatten up (they were early and small) their hair had gone more blond. They were blond until they started to go through puberty really.

Hollyhobbi · 20/06/2026 23:16

My two started out red headed, turned blonde by the age of about two and gradually went mousy brown! My dad was a red head from Donegal and their dad was red headed until he was about 3 or so then went dark brown!

It can change completely. I was born with red hair and (apparently) violet eyes. Before long my hair had changed to white blonde, which it more or less still is, just slightly darker. My eyes are very green. Everyone in my family, on both sides, is either a redhead or fair/blond/blonde though.

TheChosenTwo · 20/06/2026 23:19

Ah such a little cutie!
Im going to hedge my bets and say he’ll remain a redhead. Can you come back when he’s 20 and update us as to what it settled as please? 😂

RomeAnts · 20/06/2026 23:26

My 2 ginger dc were not born with ginger hair. If anything you'd have called it mousy but every now and then if the sun shone on it you'd think mmm is that ginger? By the time their hair started growing in properly it was obvious they were ginger. Completely different shades, eye colours and skin complexions. Then there's the other dc who was born blonde and is now mid brown.

Handeyethingyowl · 20/06/2026 23:33

Well some babies lose their darker bits of hair and go blonder. Mine did. So it is difficult to say. However I am a redhead and based on me, I would hedge my bets on him staying one. He is totally gorgeous!

DS was born ginger. Blue eyed. The ginger was replaced with light blonde which changed to dark blonde. He has green eyes. He tans. He's now 31.

DD was bald and fair. Her hair grew through v blonde, now dark blonde, grey/green eyes. Fairer than DS but tans a bit.

I am brown eyed, mouse brown hair (ahem), tan v easily. DH is very fair, blonde, blue eyed, doesn't tan, freckles, has ginger in his whiskers.

Beautiful baby!

Yes, I just hope it belongs to the OP.

RumPidgeon · 20/06/2026 23:46

Congratulations!! My little one was born strawberry blond like that (even a bit more reddish) and he’s light blond now.

Me as a baby, I’m a redhead

My DD was this colour when born and it eventually went a kind of mousy brown - she has a kind of ‘Celtic’ colouring - brown hair, fair skin, very clear blue eyes, freckles.

LivingTheDreamish · 21/06/2026 03:29

No idea OP but just came on to say he's absolutely gorgeous!

Chickadee26 · 21/06/2026 03:35

Mine were born with red hair and it stayed red.
One was born with black hair, that turned blond.

My DS literally had orange hair as a baby, especially in the sun. He now has dark brown hair! It went dark when he was about two.

CuteOrangeElephant · 21/06/2026 08:10

My DD was born with brown hair, which turned blond and then it went light ginger all within a year.

mylifeisexams · 21/06/2026 11:48

no idea but gorgeous baby x

Hallywally · 21/06/2026 12:53

Both of mine are brunettes so I don’t know but he’s absolutely gorgeous! Red hair is such a pretty colour ❤️

merryhouse · 21/06/2026 14:57

When S1 came out almost the first thing the midwife said was "ooh and he's got red hair". When he was 3 I cut from his head hair the same colour as mine (classic ginger). Since early/mid primary school it's been brown, with chestnut highlights if you squint in the sun and indulge me 😍

S2 didn't look particularly red at first but has been definitely one of us since he was about 4 - not ginger though, a much warmer tone.

I and the two of my sisters who are redheads were definitely red from the start. Same with my 2 cousins.

Denim4ever · 21/06/2026 21:48

Forgot to say that my bro as an adult had strawberry blonde hair, a dark beard and ginger moustache. He was bald as a baby and from mid 20s

TheBirdintheCave · 21/06/2026 22:17

My son was strawberry blonde at birth just like your little one. By the time he was two it was much more blonde leaning and has stayed that way (his eyebrows are white blonde 🤷🏻‍♀️). It still looks reddish in certain light and in photos but generally I’d call it blonde now.

My guy has white eyebrows & blonde lashes at the moment. Very blonde patches of hair as well as quite a warm ginger tone.

One of mine was born with the same colouring and it changed to (and stayed) light blonde.
