What are the storage options if you have 6000 ish photos on your phone. I've tried deleting as many as possible but I love most of them so I think the most ill be able to delete is maybe 1000. I want to clear them from phone though. Any ideas?

Mine is 79,996 🙈

I download mine to my hard drive (which I back up) so at any one time I have just 200-300 photos on my phone. I also pick my favourite 10 photos each year and have them printed and put them in a photo album. Bit old fashioned but it helps me to remember things.

Daft question but how do you transfer/download to your hard drive?

I have an iPhone so I log into iCloud on my laptop. Select the photos I want and click download. I then delete them from the phone.

I have 40,000! They're all backed up in Google photos.

Plug in the end of your charging cable (that normally goes into the charger, the phone end stays in the phone) into your laptop. A popup should come up asking if you want to transfer, click yes, and a small programme will install. Once finished go to your directories and you should see your phone listed, eg drive a, drive c, Motorola etc. Click on your phone directory and it should (slowly) show the thumbnails or file names. Copy and paste/move over to your picture folder on your main drive.

But that's to my computer's hard drive rather than an external hard drive? Sorry I'm not good at this stuff.

Oh sorry, I just saw the word hard drive and assumed laptop.

As a technophobic luddite I would go the long and painful way. Load to the laptop, disconnect phone, attach external hard drive and move from laptop to external 😬😂

CelticSilver · 21/06/2026 12:37

Amazon Prime has free unlimited picture storage.

Hmmmmwineandchocs · 21/06/2026 12:42

I pay for extra iCloud, Amazon and Google photo cloud storage, i have over 10,000 items backed up.
I also buy each new phone with plenty of storage.

Unfortunately I only have a work laptop so can't really do that.

I pay £16.99 a year for amazon photos and have everything backed up there. Photo storage is free with amazon, you pay for the video storage.
