What are the storage options if you have 6000 ish photos on your phone. I've tried deleting as many as possible but I love most of them so I think the most ill be able to delete is maybe 1000. I want to clear them from phone though. Any ideas?

I believe you can put them on a portable harddrive, I could be wrong. Or on a cloud, but you might have to pay for that.

I'm a bit worried that a portable harddrive might corrupt but I guess there's risks with clouds too and don't know where to even start.

Upload them in groups to somewhere external like Snapfish - or even Facebook, with only you allowed to view them.

I've heard of a few people who've been booted out of Facebook. Isn't Snapfish just a place to buy photo books etc?

What do you do with them, how often do you look at them?
In your shoes I'd do physical and cloud storage. But that's a massive number to keep.

Turtlestarfish · 16/06/2026 19:51

Google photos are backed up and secure. I also pay 99p a month for extra Apple storage, as I currently have 52k photos on my phone 🫣

At the moment they sit on my phone. I think they might be backed up on Google photos but I'm not sure if that's all of them or if that disappears if I change my phone. I do look at them pretty regularly.

If you delete from your phone it delete the same from Google photo unless it is through a specific delete process. backing them up to a portable hard drive is a good secondary back up.

Sorry I probably wasn't clear. I meant if I get a new phone.

I keep seeing ads for a Clean Up your iPhone app which deletes duplicates and maybe other stuff. Do these apps work? Do they compromise the user’s security?

WonderingAndOverthinking · 16/06/2026 20:00

I need to go through mine……

There are apps to for both iphone and android which allows you to copy from your old handset to your new one. I always back up Amazon photos (free for Prime members) Google and a hard drive.

I back up mine to my laptop and portable hard disk every month. Then delete the ones I don't want from my phone. I also pay for Google storage.

jellybuns · 16/06/2026 20:30

6000, you amateur! I save mine to 2 separate cloud providers. Just in case.

angelcake20 · 16/06/2026 20:33

52k here as well. I just buy a phone with enough space! They’re all backed up to the cloud.

Doggymummar · 16/06/2026 20:37

Do not store on fb. I have been banned for nothing and my account lost. Luckily I had no photos stored there.

Haribosweets · 16/06/2026 22:34

When you get a new phone with android Samsung then you use smart switch to copy everything from old to new including photos, settings etc.

Google cloud backs mine up and I delete from actual phone. I have Google one subscription as over the GB for free version

52,000?!

How long has it taken to take that number?

What on earth have you got 6,000 photos of?!

Holidays, pets, wildlife, nice walks, lots of screenshots of recipes, crafting etc. My phone is around 4 years old so it's over a long period of time.

6000 is quite modest for many people.
