Explain your job like you're talking to a 4 year old

Tonight my 4 year old asked me what I do for work. I told him I help people fix problems with their homes.

What would you tell my 4 year old you do? And can anyone guess what I do for a living?!

I talk to people who sell holidays about how to sell more of one type of holiday and teach them how to advertise them. I sometimes take those people on holidays so they can try them out and tell their customers about them.

I help companies when something has gone wrong or they’ve had a fight with other people or companies.

First I find out what happened. I try to work out who is in the wrong and then use that to tell “my” company what I think they should do next. If I think the other people are the baddies, then I help my company prove that. If they’re in the wrong, I try to help them avoid getting in trouble for it.

I chase bad guys and drive a car really fast.

It’s more than that though but 4 year olds only care about the seemingly “fun” bit.

I check land registry documents and forms owners fill in to make sure its OK for you and possibly your bank to buy sell or transfer your property. I also check how you want to hold said property in case you die or lose capacity. Sometimes I check for your bank that its OK for them to lend you money on property you already own.

Check children are safe. I have to explain this to explain this to 4 year olds (and other age groups) daily in my interactions. When I ask them of they know what my job is, they say yes but then can never articulate it. Neither can adults to be honest.....

Dig holes in the ground and fill them in again. Write stories about what was in the holes. Then get to play with diggers. I mean my job is awesome.

I write stories to win business. I was taught it years ago and it is very handy as no one understands what I do by my job title
