Middle of the night musings.

i would have said the late Queen would have been recognised in the most countries around the world but not sure who would now. Maybe Trump?

Anyone I'm forgetting?

All these people trying to pretend they’re ‘too cool’ to know who she is!

Edited

I have no idea who Natasha Sparaks is, so I did a Google search and Google doesn’t know either. So I’m clearly as cool as Google. Go me 😎

Kim Kardashian!!! Known in all cultures

Most will only know the name at best. Like many others, I don’t have a clue what she looks like. So I guess it depends on whether we’re expected to know what the person looks like 🤷🏼‍♀️

Gormlessgorgon · 30/05/2026 12:24

Younger Daniel Radcliffe in the Harry Potter glasses?

InconsequentialFerret · 30/05/2026 12:25

I'd go with the football theme. It's universal. Although I might not recognise Ronaldo, I definitely know who Messi is.

JudgeJ · 30/05/2026 12:26

Raciney · 30/05/2026 10:27

Natasha Sparaks for sure!

Who?

JudgeJ · 30/05/2026 12:28

UltimateSloth · 30/05/2026 10:50

Almost every man in the world, even in very remote parts of Africa will recognise Ronaldo or Messi and a big proportion of the women would too.

My late husband wouldn't have recognised the names even, not every man in the world is football mad!

Shinyandnew1 · 30/05/2026 12:31

I couldn’t pick Ronaldo or Messi out of a line up and I doubt my parents or daughters could either!

If it’s someone currently alive (ie not the queen or MJ), I’d go for Trump, sadly.

Natasha Sparaks for sure!

Just had to Google Natasha Sparkes

So maybe not her. 😁

To use the name of one of those Kar-whatsit people and culture in the same sentence is so funny!

I know the name, no idea what they look like.

Is that Natasha Sparaks married to Ronnie Pickering? If so, then I agree that they are without a doubt the worlds most famous power-couple...

Not that I'm a fan myself, but I think Charles would score very highly. Obviously he hasn't (and never will) be in a position to reign for anything like as long as his mum; but he's been recognised worldwide for decades now.

I think it's also important - as has been touched on in this thread - to ask whether it is the person or their position and their usual surroundings/clothes/accessories that would be recognised. Supposing you saw the Pope wearing jeans and a t-shirt in your local Co-op (without hearing him speaking, as the accent might be a clue), if you're familiar with his facial features, you might actually think "Wow, that bloke looks like the Pope!!!", but you would still likely not recognise him AS the Pope.

Have never even heard the name. Don’t know what she looks like and I’m definitely not cool.

Me neither. And neither goes Google. Is the name wrong? Oh, the irony.
Nor have I heard of Ronnie Pickering.
Trump gets my vote, sadly.

Raciney · 30/05/2026 12:37

I don’t use AI. You’ll have seen from other posts of mine that I’ve ‘told others off’ for doing so.

Meadowfinch · 30/05/2026 12:39

How depressing. The consensus appears to be Trump. 🙁

I have genuinely never heard of her

I think it's also worth bearing in mind that, even when celebrities are absolutely ubiquitous throughout the 'western' world, there will be billions and billions of people in Asia, Africa and South America who wouldn't have the faintest idea who they are.

How many people in Europe or North America would instantly recognise Aishwarya Rai? Yet over a billion people - maybe two billion people - in Asia would know exactly who she is.

piscofrisco · 30/05/2026 12:45

I wouldn’t have a clue who the pope was unless he was wearing his hat.
Trump for sure.
Tom Cruise? Sort of longer term major Hollywood stars?

BunnyLake · 30/05/2026 12:47

SnappyUmberLion · 30/05/2026 10:33

Ronaldo or Messi.

I wouldn’t know Messi if he knocked on my door. I’d know who Ronaldo was though I think.

The Ronnie Pickering reference was a joke. RP was this deluded man who went viral a few years ago. He assumed that he was extremely famous (maybe he was infamous on his road/in his neighbourhood) and, when asked repeatedly who he was, he just replied "Ronnie Pickering!!" as though everybody should instantly know the name.

Ironic, really, as people who are actually famous would never have to keep telling people their name in the first place. Like the minor celebs who play the 'Don't you know who I am' card when trying to mooch a free upgrade on a plane or a complimentary night in a hotel in exchange for promoting it in their self-assumed role as an 'influencer'. If you regularly have to ask people if they don't know who you are, then it says an awful lot more about your level of 'fame' than it does about their not knowing who you are!

BunnyLake · 30/05/2026 12:50

Kim Jong Un has pretty memorable visuals. I think I’d recognise him anywhere.
