Please help settle a debate mumsnetters - do you wear underwear (pants not bra) with pyjamas??
(yeah having a really exciting Saturday night)

Yes. Shower, clean underwear and pyjamas.
The pyjamas are worn for 2 nights in a row and then thrown in the wash.

FrLarryDuff · 03/05/2026 19:34

We sleep naked.

If I did wear pjs, I don’t think I’d wear underwear. Seems like a lot of clothes to sleep in.

Hedjwitch · 03/05/2026 19:35

No. Too uncomfortable

Effervescentfrothy · 03/05/2026 19:37

No, never have but I stopped wearing PJs years ago. I wear nighties or sleep naked.

Get a star up there on your peak mumsnetty chart

Thanks so much 🤣

Really don’t understand why anyone now wears anything in bed????

MakeMineAMilkyTea · 03/05/2026 19:52

No!

BoarBrush · 03/05/2026 20:02

I sleep naked but wear pjs when at home, absolutely need pants as my poor fanny is suffering from the gusset of pants being moved further back so rub rub rub. I know one of my dds don't, but she's a weird kid IMO.

ClaudiaWrinklemum · 03/05/2026 20:03

I would absolutely love to, for all the reasons previously stated, but I toss and turn a lot in bed and always end up with the knickers up my arse crack. I wear nighties in the summer and can’t stand having an exposed undercarriage so it’s a real problem. Only solution is commando with pjs when it’s cold, and a nightie with some baggy cotton bloomer type things when it’s hot.

It really is a never ending conundrum.

Growlybear83 · 03/05/2026 20:03

No never. I treat pyjamas like underwear and wash them after every wear.

AxelRex · 03/05/2026 20:16

Doesn’t any on here ever stop and wonder why these knicker threads always pop up on a Friday/ Saturday night?
You do realise in all likelihood you’re giving some bloke a cheap thrill?

gingercat02 · 03/05/2026 20:17

Rarely wear anything in bed, but no just PJs if I do wear them

Middlemarch123 · 03/05/2026 21:09

If I’m lucky enough to have a weekend day with no visitors, then I shower, put clean knickers and pjs on. But at bedtime, it’s always a nightdress and no knickers, short nighty in the warmer months and long one in colder months. But never long sleeves, can’t bear long sleeves in bed. And however cold it is, I can never be covered completely by my duvet, one leg uncovered at all times! Yeah, I’m weird.

Purplewarrior · 03/05/2026 21:15

Yes. Always

Do you often find it hard to understand that not everyone does the same things you do and why that might be?

bohnerific69 · 03/05/2026 22:18

Always wear knickers under my pjs and I’ve never had thrush.

sprigatito · 03/05/2026 22:22

Really? You’re unable to conceive of any reason why people might need to wear clothing to bed? That’s very…limited.

Some people have children - or stepchildren - who might visit them during the night because of night terrors or need for reassurance. Some people have caring responsibilities that mean they might need to be available quickly in the night. Some people share living space with non-family members and have medical conditions that mean frequent toilet trips. Some people just feel the cold, or prefer the sensation of being clothed.

Papergirl1968 · 03/05/2026 23:10

Nightie in bed but I’ve decided to try wearing knickers under pjs in the evenings after my shower. I’ve tried pjs on their own but that bloody seam they all have at the back is really uncomfortable.

neilyoungismyhero · 04/05/2026 00:18

To avoid my shorts disappearing up my rear end during the night I wear matching colour pants..it's a game changer.

Iocanepowder · 04/05/2026 02:07

Yes always pants.

Never had thrush.

I don’t have enough pjs to have a clean pair every night. Also think of the washing load.

Everyone saying they can’t stand wearing pants at night, what do you on your period??

LoserWinner · 04/05/2026 02:22

I don’t even wear pyjamas.

MysweetAudrina · 04/05/2026 07:01

No, and wear fresh ones each night.

StarlightLady · 04/05/2026 08:14

I don’t own any PJs, with the exception of the first few days of a period l’ve slept naked since my mid teens. For me, wearing anything in bed gets bunched up.

JackandVictor · 04/05/2026 15:36

Davros · 03/05/2026 10:55

Agreed, why would I wear underwear under what is essentially underwear? I wear my pyjamas watching telly in the evening and go nuddy overnight. So they are not sweaty etc

Me too 😄 I can't imagine layering up for bed.
