Chips peas and ketchup. And bread and butter to make sandwiches

Xiaoxiong · 01/05/2026 19:26

Best: a sandwich. Soft bread, tartare sauce, crunchy lettuce, lime juice. Chips on the side.

Nigella's fish finger bhorta makes a delicious change from fish finger sandwiches.

Mash, or buttered new potatoes, baked beans and broccoli here

IwouldifIcouldreachit · 01/05/2026 19:30

With chips. Dd prefers peas, I like tinned sweetcorn. Bread and butter on the side for a chip sandwich. Chip shop curry sauce if I can be arsed making it, Nando's sauce if not.

Plummagic · 01/05/2026 19:30

I can on to say this! Fish finger bhorta in a frozen paratha is my new favourite fish finger sandwich.

I've just eaten chunky fish fingers, chips and beans with a portion of trifle for dessert 😋

Sounds amazing! Love trifle!

HatStickBoots · 01/05/2026 19:31

My Mum used to serve them with mashed potatoes and tinned plum tomatoes with bread and butter to dip in the tomatoes. We have them in sandwiches with homemade tartare sauce, salad and chunky chips with skins on.
Love the look of that Nigella recipe!

Funnylass · 01/05/2026 19:35

Fish finger sandwiches are amazing. 🤩 had one for the first time recently aged 40+ and I wish I’d discovered them sooner. Best with the chunky fish fingers.

they would also work in a fish taco - YUM

helibirdcomp · 01/05/2026 19:35

Cut up with a mixed salad some hot sauce and mayo all in a wrap - Quick fish tacos

OrangeSlices998 · 01/05/2026 19:37

Love a fish finger sandwich! With thick white bread and tartare sauce! Yum! The kids will have them with waffles/chips and beans, if I want a quick comforting tea we get the chunky ones (not frozen usually) and homemade chips and peas/sweetcorn and tartare sauce.

Downitdownitdownit · 01/05/2026 19:40

We have them with brocolli, cauliflower, carrots & boiled potatoes-loads of butter on the potatoes and loads of mayo to dip everything into

HoraceCope · 01/05/2026 19:59

the fish fingers were a success, delicious, perfect with the purple sprouting broccoli.

I love them with buttered new potatoes , macho peas and a splodge of salad cream

grafittiartist · 01/05/2026 20:03

Chips and peas.
But on a packet of rice too- yum!

Pabbel · 01/05/2026 20:04

Chips and mushy peas.

staringatthesun · 01/05/2026 20:06

I only even have them in a sandwich, with iceberg lettuce and tartar sauce. Never had them as a child, so have never thought to have them as a dinner!

chattyness · 01/05/2026 20:20

We love fish fingers, got to be cod or haddock fillet though, we eat them with sweet corn, peas, mash & parsley sauce , sauce is from a packet but with some freshly chopped parsley added in if I've got any in the garden at the time. Also love fish fingers, chips, peas, sweet corn and sweet chilli sauce or with cauliflower cheese and chips. Sometimes I like to use fish fingers as soldiers for dipping in soft boiled eggs in stead of toast. Fish finger butties are the best though, I absolutely love them.
