When do you do your ‘big shop’?

I probably do a ‘big shop’ every 2-3 weeks, and then do top up shops locally in between.

I hate going in the evenings after work as many things are out of stock. Going anytime from mid morning on the weekend is very busy. Sometimes I’ll go very early on a Saturday but then there’s the staff doing the picking for online orders which can be irritating.

I wish I could go daytime in the week but I work full time…

On the 1st of each month I do a BIG shop, spend about £300.00 and have ut delivered and then just buy fresh veg and fruut on the market on a Thursday. Soens about £400.00 a month all together.

Its only for DH and I though.

First Sunday of the.month, we stock up the freezer.and fridge, I do top ups on a Friday.

I shop on Tuesday and Friday mornings. I am there when the supermarket opens at 7am and stick strictly to my list. I’m back indoors by 7.45. It’s especially nice on Friday evenings to come home to a fully stocked fridge and know I’ve got no reason to go into a crowded supermarket all weekend.

We get an online shop delivered on Thursdays. We don't do top up shops. We are usually out all day on Saturdays and Sundays doing clubs or trips out with the dcs.

When I can be bothered or when we have run out of everything. Bigger shop is done at Tesco scan as you go. Daughter works there so I get discount. Top up shops are Morrisons. It’s in walking distance. Husband works there so I get discount as well. Kids are happy to pop out for bits as needed and for their own snacks.

I work random days each week so a lot depends on what I am working.

I don't have a car or get home deliveries.
I'm on my own now so spread my shopping over 3 visits to the supermarket week. But even when my H was alive and my DS was young or up to when he left home it was a similar pattern.

I must Sainsbury's altering their Nectar offers altered my shopping days. I used to always shop on a Tuesday, Friday and Sunday but now although I still always do a smallish Sunday shop I still haven't fixed on a routine fo my other shopping days.

Get an online delivery - why go to the shops ? I do one online a week - when varies - and might go in for a top up if needed but really try and avoid going in person.

I would love if Lidl did online delivery. Everywhere that does delivery Is just way too expensive.

We get a delivery on a Sunday evening. This sets us up for dinners and pack ups for most of the week.

I often top up on fresh fruit and sometimes veg and bread on a Wednesday (Thursday at the latest).

If we have guests for the weekend then I do a top up or a click and collect on a Friday morning.

nopeandnopeandnope · 01/05/2026 20:50

I wizz into a supermarket most days. I am not organised enough to do a weekly When the children were primary school age ,I shopped once a week with them after school…another activity for them 🤦‍♀️

NoTouch · 01/05/2026 20:51

We get deliveries on Sunday morning and usually Thursday 5pm. Allows us to meal plan better, less waste and more fresh veg/fruit/bread/meat.

I must be weird because I quite like going to the supermarket! I only buy meat or fish if it's on yellow sticker (price saving) and freeze it straight away as the cost has gone up so much recently.

Daffodilsinthespring · 01/05/2026 21:02

Every other week a Sat afternoon Tesco delivery, the other week I go to Lidl Saturday morning. Never any top ups.

MissDixieVoom · 01/05/2026 21:02
