When do you do your ‘big shop’?

catsarekeytohappiness · 01/05/2026 18:09

I probably do a ‘big shop’ every 2-3 weeks, and then do top up shops locally in between.

I hate going in the evenings after work as many things are out of stock. Going anytime from mid morning on the weekend is very busy. Sometimes I’ll go very early on a Saturday but then there’s the staff doing the picking for online orders which can be irritating.

I wish I could go daytime in the week but I work full time…

We just do the same shop each week and get it delivered

MouseCheese87 · 01/05/2026 18:12

Once a week, in the morning when all the kids are at school. But I do multiple top ups shops a week ( when they're at school).

Meadowfinch · 01/05/2026 18:13

Early every Saturday morning. On a good day, 7am so it's packed away in time to do parkrun.

gingercat02 · 01/05/2026 18:13

On-line usually Friday afternoon or Saturday morning depending on work. Just finished unpacking.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 01/05/2026 18:14

I get a grocery delivery on Thursdays most weeks, have been doing it since I went back to work when DC were small (they are both nearly adult now). Then top up shop on Saturday on local high street

FridayNighFeeling · 01/05/2026 18:14

Home delivery as and when maybe every 5-6 days and even so there's still top ups going on Blush

Purplewarrior · 01/05/2026 18:14

Click and collect Saturday at 9am

NoYouCantComeToTheWedding · 01/05/2026 18:15

A couple of days before Christmas. It's wee shops all the way for the rest of the year since there's a Tesco less than five minutes walk away.

Thursday and take DW home after her 5hr shift as she has osteoarthritis and is broken after it.

Usedoccasionally · 01/05/2026 18:16

8.30 Monday morning after school run . Self employed though !

Statsquestion1 · 01/05/2026 18:20

I do my shopping every Saturday morning then one every 4 weeks is a bit bigger and that’s it.

FlipARock · 01/05/2026 18:22

We have 2 shops delivered each week, one on Saturday morning and one on Tuesday afternoon.

TorroFerney · 01/05/2026 18:25

Every Saturday morning - husband though not me. I don't look properly and will say they don't have something rather than scouring the aisles so he prefers to go. That's the main shop - Aldi and then a few odds and sods from Sainsburys or Booths throughout the week which either of us does.

yeesh · 01/05/2026 18:26

I have a delivery on a Friday morning, work from home so I order it to arrive at break time.

sparrowhawkhere · 01/05/2026 18:27

We do it on a Monday or Tuesday. Top up shops we try to avoid although they happen as it’s so expensive. Meal plan to avoid not eating properly. Doing it early in the week frees up our weekend.

cocobow · 01/05/2026 18:27

I do a meal plan and a list for what we need that week on a Sunday then Dh does the online shop on a Monday night adding in any offers he spots or extras and it gets delivered on a Tuesday morning. We then do a top up shop at the weekend.

GameOfJones · 01/05/2026 18:31

On a Monday evening. I have to take DD1 to a karate class from 6.30-7.30pm and a big Sainsburys is just down the road so I have enough time to drop her off, do the weekly shop and be back in time to pick her up.

I try to avoid top up shops at all costs as we've been reducing our food bill so if I haven't bought it we have to wait unless it's something we desperately need. This is because the place we'd do our top up shop is M&S and I can't be trusted in there..... I'll go in for milk and come out with £50 worth of nice snacks! 🤣

ShetlandishMum · 01/05/2026 18:32

We have a delivery every Friday morning. Covers most if our needs.

QueenStevie · 01/05/2026 18:33

Online on a Saturday to get it delivered on a Sunday. I hate doing a big shop in person.

Stirabout · 01/05/2026 18:40

When I get the Lidl 10% discount

I go in the evenings well after school kids might be out with their parents

FortyFacedFuckers · 01/05/2026 18:44

I do 2 shops a week so I never do a big shop, everything seems to go out of date after a few days.

LittleGreenDuck · 01/05/2026 19:06

Monday morning as it’s my day off. I see the same faces in there every week, obviously we are all creatures of habit. Some of them even have nicknames in my head: bow tie man, stiletto lady, super mum etc.

I do a weekly online shop

TheDandyLion · 01/05/2026 19:12

When the fridge, freezer and cupboards look mostly empty.

TallagallaPenguin · 01/05/2026 19:24

Delivery every Saturday morning. I have Friday off so it’s no trouble to get the meals planned quickly. Used to hate doing online orders but it def gets much easier with time.

Usually don’t bother planning for the following Friday - we’ll think of something nice on the day and shop for it locally.
