While sitting on the tube

What have you observed while sitting on the tube.
I have seen people applying full make up, a mother using her saliva to wipe her child's face, a large dog sitting upright on a seat, back pack placed on a seat etc

OP posts:

I hate the thought of a shitty dog’s arse on the seat. How bloody disgusting. It’s bad enough that they’re allowed in the carriage with dog dander flying everywhere. Yuck.

In December, an older man in a v posh Santa outfit, probably on the way to an event or job. Most convincing Santa I’ve ever seen!

Maybe it was the REAL one?!

AndAllOurYesterdays · 01/05/2026 13:05

A man with a coke bottle (one of the large plastic ones) full of bees. He then started to show it to me. I was sitting next to my kids and I calmly whispered to them that we would get off at the next stop.

A guy sitting opposite me who got his tiny dog out of a carrier and had it on the seat next to his. It did a huge wee. He realised and again, calmly got off at the next stop with no attempt to sort it out at all!

Mums have been cleaning faces with saliva since time began.

I don’t like the makeup thing though as it usually smells and they bump their elbows into you if sat beside them

Dog 🤢

Bag 🤬

Edited

I’ve never noticed much of a smell from my own make up, let alone other people’s - do I just have a poor sense of smell? Nail polish on the other hand… not ok in a confined area.

murasaki · 01/05/2026 13:08

A fox got on at East Finchley and off at Euston, I've always wondered where it was going.

Most people wouldn’t like a dog on a seat. Me included.

Ok, thanks for clarifying 👍

Riapia · 01/05/2026 13:27

All of the examples on here are just typical of the type of person that uses public transport.
😉😁.

dizzydizzydizzy · 01/05/2026 13:31

A gigantic rabbit on a lead. The biggest rabbit I have even seen in my life.

I take it you are not a regular user of the tube? These are all pretty much everyday occurrences ime.

What even the flashers?

Kucinghitam · 01/05/2026 13:36

Northern Line, after-work commuting time. Man got on with black bin bag full of something. He announced to the carriage "I've got a load of cheap chickens to sell! Anybody want a chicken? They're really good - here, have a look!" while shoving the open bin bag under several passengers' noses.

Nobody looked down into the bag.

HelloItsMeYourRobotVaccuum · 01/05/2026 13:37

None of those things would bother me in the slightest. In terms of hygiene the dog would probably bother me less than some other passengers. Grin

Star81 · 01/05/2026 13:39

One thing I saw that just made me smile was a couple with a giant real Christmas tree carrying it between them on and off the tube.

The OP didn’t mention flashers.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 01/05/2026 13:41

Someone praying with prayer mat in the space between the doors. This was about 40 years ago.

I've also seen someone with their hair trapped in the doors. It was a man and he didn't have long hair so I can only assume it bloody hurt. He didn't flinch or say a word.

Sskka · 01/05/2026 13:42

I was on the tube once talking on the phone, appropriately quietly, when a quite well-spoken and fairly-presentable beggar came on. He gave his little speech which concluded (“…would anyone please help me?”) at the exact same time that whoever I was talking to asked me some outrageous question.

I blurted out a very loud “No!” right into the moment of awkward silence, and loads of people laughed. The timing was immaculate but I felt absolutely terrible!

Edgware Road - he walked to Euston Square tube station from there

I used to live in London and those things all sound really normal !!!

Ilovemsrachel · 01/05/2026 13:57

I don’t think I’d even look up from my book for most of these.

You did used to see a lot more people moving house on the tube, before the advent of cheap Ubers. There would be people on there with velvet armchairs, lamps, coffee tables, the lot. That was always quite funny. I kinda miss it.

Was it looking for a pigeon, maybe?😂

I saw a guy moving a sex chair once. A horrible-looking goth guy, with this inquisition-looking chair with straps all over it, travelling south from Earl’s Court. He was talking away about it to the two girls he was with like it was totally normal.

FettchYeSandbagges · 01/05/2026 14:17

Oooh - nearly forgot!!

We once saw Street Cat Bob and his owner employee on the tube.

ExitPursuedByABare · 01/05/2026 14:18

A dead body. Not me but a woman I worked with years ago.

I travel by tube most days and see alls of these regularly. Normal.

loosethepounds · 01/05/2026 14:22

I was about 10 staying with my aunt in Ealing. Got on the tube and a lady was getting on with twins.
She put the first one on and the doors closed leaving the other on the platform. They looked about 3 years old.
I always wondered what happened.

Tattletail · 01/05/2026 14:31

A pigeon.

Quite frequently on the eastern end of the jubilee line
