While out on a bike ride, almost ran over this lovely snake. Adder I think, around 2 foot long at least.

Wow! Was this in UK? I’ve only once seen one.

Crunchymum · 27/04/2026 21:52

What a gorgeous specimen.

JaneExotic · 27/04/2026 21:54

I’ve never seen one. I’d love to!

Yes, north Hampshire

I’d have shit my pants and died on the spot.

Ophir · 27/04/2026 21:56

How lovely

GardenGlee · 27/04/2026 21:56

My dog once found a dead one in Kent. It must have been enjoying the sunny weather today.

musicalfrog · 27/04/2026 21:56

Wow! Lucky!

SinuousTendrils · 27/04/2026 21:57

Beautiful. I saw a beautiful (sadly dead) stoat today. Another elusive creature.

I've never seen one - would love to!

Cool! I would love to see one

AnnaQuayRules · 27/04/2026 22:12

DH saw one today (East Suffolk). I think they are now emerging in the sun

Alwaysthesameoldstory · 27/04/2026 22:13

I'm terrified of snakes.
They might be objectively beautiful but much too scary for me to ever enjoy meeting one.

Justmadesourkraut · 27/04/2026 22:14

That is lovely - but not particularly big, I don't think, as adders go.

No need to panic though @BashfulClam . It's well out in the open and easy to avoid. They really aren't aggressive, though worth keeping your dog on a lead, so that they don't go too close . . .

MabelAnderson · 27/04/2026 22:15

Ooh. That is a hefty Adder. We have a lot here, so see them now and again, but I haven’t ever seen one quite that large.

Dalmationday · 27/04/2026 22:16

Would love to see one. Must be quite rare?

OhBotherSaidPoo · 27/04/2026 22:16

How stunning!

Shit 😬.

I saw one in Cornwall when I was a kid. It's only very recently I realised they are actually quite a sturdy snake. I used to think they were tiddly things.

Nope! I am a massive be snake phobe. Even the thought of them makes me feel funny. I have no issues with spiders or insects but anything that wriggles and I’m out. Snakes, worms, maggots, centipedes (strangely caterpillars are ok).

BeMellowAquaSquid · 27/04/2026 22:21

I would have categorically wet myself

CheeseWisely · 27/04/2026 22:22

What a beaut! I’d likely have jumped 10 feet in the air though, I like snakes but unexpectedly came across a grass snake on a hike and my soul briefly left my body.

HappiestSleeping · 27/04/2026 22:25

Also in Hampshire, and a dog I know found one a couple of weeks ago. Fortunately it was still slept and didn't strike the dog.

ChristmasCwtch · 27/04/2026 22:29

Horrific! That’s massive and awful 🙈

Me and two neighbours had to get rid of our ponds last summer to stop grass snakes swimming in them. Before that idea I’d planned to burn down the house and then sell it 😂

I pretty much did jump in the air. Was about a meter or so away when I noticed it, coiled up at the side of the path so i swerved, swore a fair bit then warned my friend behind
