Easter Eggs are so expensive this year!

DS asked for a Lindt Easter egg this year. It was £12! Even the Cadburys ones are £8.
Hoping to grab some cheaper after Easter 🤣

But surely everywhere has different sizes at different prices. Big ones are more expensive. But there are eggs to be had for under £2 or under £4 or whatever your budget is. I’m pretty sure they’re the same price as last year.

It worries me that people can’t set a personal budget and find eggs within that budget….if they can’t manage it for just 1 item, no wonder people struggle with budgeting across a whole supermarket shop.

There is zero reason why Anyine needs to spend £12 or £15 on eggs they cannot afford. There are much cheaper eggs available.

dazzlingdeborahrose · 04/04/2026 19:04

They mentioned this on Saturday Kitchen this morning. Cacoa prices have gone from £2000 per tonne to £10,000 per tonne 😱. First time I’ve been grateful to gave type 2 diabetes!

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/04/2026 19:06

Totally @WombatChocolate and the amount of chocolate you get in the egg prob cheaper to buy a wispa or a bag of Malteasers and a bar of chocolate

if I rem tomorrow I will weigh the egg

@Clowningarounthen don’t buy. I don’t and my kids were never into them (gently engineered by me 🙌😜💰) win win 🏆

We have happily bought the more expensive ones that aren’t filled with rubbish. Cadbury’s etc are expensive (compared to previous years) and full of rubbish so we have bought various (more expensive) palm oil free ones from the likes of Lindt and marks and Spencer’s

I have a factoid on that! I was nap trapped under a poorly toddler, and watching paint dry Saturday Kitchen, anyway, the chocolatier on there said Cocoa is like £10,000 per ?tonne (?) this year, up from £2,000 last year.

That unit might be incorrect, but the leap is approx what he said. (And then he made a dessert featuring approx £2m of chocolate....)

Sorry! Not rtft fail 🫠

jamaisjedors · 04/04/2026 21:46

Just fainted at that price of eggs here in France in the chocolate shop... Cheapest I could find was 17euro, the nice looking ones were 30 or more 🫣

Proudofitbabe · 04/04/2026 11:12

Totally agree! Not just the price but I got a Crunchie one which would previously be considered Medium but now labeled (and priced!) Large and had one snack-size bar - huh 😩 AND some “eggs” are now flattened?? Just a complete con this year! Such a shame, I love Easter eggs but that’s a tough spend to swallow.

To be fair with a lot of the eggs they've reduced the packaging so the boxes are smaller but the eggs genuinely are still large eggs.

Also, there have been offers running up to Easter in Tesco and Morrisons (probably elsewhere too but that's where I go) for loyalty card holders, so if you keep your eye out for deals you can have really good ones.

I bought mine really cheaply this year and got some decent ones.

Not the "luxury" ones, but the XL ones. They're absolutely fine!

DreamyJade · 04/04/2026 21:53

I got a Dairy Milk egg in Tesco that didn’t look massive. It was £11 with a Clubcard (but £15 without) which I thought was expensive.

But it was actually really thick and heavy, I was very pleasantly surprised!

BotterMon · 04/04/2026 22:00

I refuse to buy anything with palm oil in so got Lindt and Waitrose eggs. Luckily I only have 4 people to buy for.

XenoBitch · 04/04/2026 22:09

I have noticed this too. There always used to be smaller ones for £1.25 or so in Tesco. Now those same ones are over £3, and the bigger ones over £5.

MsGreying · 04/04/2026 22:28

Not bought any. They're a ridiculous amount of packaging.

Foil and card. Both easily recycled. I have not seen any easter eggs in plastic for years.

Give it a day ir so after easter then buy them half price.

This is my plan. Going to scope out the various supermarkets in my town and see who has best deals.

I can guarantee Tesco will be shit as always - no reductions or about 10% off. Wow not!

Hoping for a good find in Lidl or Aldi.

topcat2026 · 04/04/2026 23:28

M&S do the best Easter eggs (and good in general) and I always go to a branch the day after Easter Monday for half price Easter Eggs.

topcat2026 · 04/04/2026 16:50

They have always been more expensive than chocolate without the packaging. Why are you bothering with Lindt? A large Cadbury’s Easter egg is £4.50 at Sainsbury’s, which is completely reasonable.

Where did you see the Cadbury’s egg? Harvey nicks? Harrods?

Linda tastes far far nicer. I can't bear cadburys now, would rather not bother.

VivaciousCurrentBun · 05/04/2026 00:54

Regular size eggs were on offer for under £2.50 a couple of weeks ago in Asda.
the last time I bought Lindt it tasted awful as they now add coconut oil.

laurajayneinkent · 05/04/2026 14:07

There were LOADS of different medium ones in Asda/Tesco/Sainsbury's for £3.50-£4.00. Cadbury (many types), Mars, Maltesers etc. I thought that was a good price! Plus the small ones which were around £1.50. They all had something in them in addition to the egg (choc bar, mini eggs, creme egg, etc).

Of course if you want Lindt they're going to cost more. Plenty of choice of posh/large eggs in the same supermarkets for £8/10/12 if you want to spend that, but nobody's forcing you to!

MsGreying · 04/04/2026 22:28

In the last few years they have got rid of ALL plastic from all standard eggs which is great. There's only plastic on some of the extra special ones.

I noticed in my Buttons egg that the buttons were loose inside the egg, rather than a packet inside the egg. Now I know why.

ChocolateTriffle · 05/04/2026 17:24

I’ve got some large eggs through Deliveroo today for £1,97 each. Discounted today.

Devongirl1983 · 05/04/2026 18:43

Cadburys XL were £4.50 in tescos a few weeks ago as bought several for my kids. Cadburys medium have been between £2 and £3 in multiple supermarkets for the last month or so, so my kids had a mixture of all of these.

Lindt have always been more expensive but im sure one of the supermarkets must have had a deal on them. Im on the lookout for deals from about Feb onwards and tend to add an egg to my weekly shop every week, so dont tend to notice a few pounds added on each week.

Hope you got lucky in Lidl or Aldi.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 05/04/2026 19:12

I was given a salted caramel Lindt egg from my best friend, she must love me!

QueenElle · 05/04/2026 20:43

Asda had the small ones (which are now called medium for some reason) on offer for £1 a while ago so I bought 14 of them and everyone got 2 each 😆
Theres more chocolate in 2 small than a large and the little ones even had the buttons/fredo faces etc inside the eggs like the good old days.
