I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in the conservatory which seems to be becoming my new morning spot 😊. The cats have had their breakfast & were mooching about wherever I went - including the bathroom 🙄. They've both settled to snooze now I think.

I've just had a productive half hour - washer on, litter box cleaned, recycling and bin bag out, last night's pots put to soak, and cleared the worktop of doom. So now I'll sit and enjoy my cuppa and some fruit, for breakfast.

Today's plan is to get dd2 out of the house, away from school work/revision for a bit. She wants some revision cards so I'll take her into town & we'll just wander then get lunch.

When we get in, I'm almost certain she'll go back to it but at least she'll have had a break!

I'll carry on with the kitchen after town - I've spent the week slowly decorating so it's big clean up time. Calendar, spice rack, and a couple of pictures of the girls to go back up. And I want to find a bargain, cream roller blind, on Vinted. I favourited a handful last night. Also need to second coat the little bit of gloss behind the big freezer & fix where I bumped the freshly painted ceiling with my roller when dd2 made me jump the other day 🤣.

My dad's given me half the money on a pre-paid Mastercard so I think I'll use it to order a new bin, dish drainer, kitchen clock and treat myself to the paint pens I've been eyeing up <living the dream>. Hopefully by tomorrow I'll be ready to move onto the hall/stairs/landing!

This evening it'll be chill with my book and a glass of wine, before heading to bed with boy cat 🐈‍⬛️.

What about all of you? 🙂

Sounds like a perfect, DIY, homely Saturday lucysmam

We're just off for swimming round 1. Back down at 11.30 for DC2.

We have a pot of soup for lunch with crunchy French bread (cheese and ham baguette for the fusspot who doesn't like soup)

DP will be doing the outside window frames when it warms up and then later we have the football (FA Cup quarter final) and I'm doing Pizza Express Pizza, dough balls, dips and salad for dinner. Love it when Pizza Express go on Special Offer!!

Possibly a film later although we take longer to pick a film these days than it takes to watch. Kids all at different ages and stages so never want to watch the same.

Will be in bed with my book as soon as I can later. Haven't been sleeping well, I guess I'm just at that age now 😱

Topjoe19 · 04/04/2026 09:32

Good morning! That sounds like a busy but productive day. I'm hoping DH will take the kids for the day to visit family so I can crack on with painting the kitchen and bathroom doors this morning.

I also want to do some ironing whilst watching an episode of the other Bennett sister (I have just finished watching Bridgerton), I need to have something good to watch as ironing is so boring!

I hope I get time to do a clothes sort out as my DC are rapidly growing out of everything. I have some summer holiday clothes ready bought (in TU and tesco when they were doing a reduction) so I will make a pile for the washing machine.

I always overdo it when the kids are out as it's easy to just put my headphones in with my audio book while I'm tidying/sorting/painting and I don't stop for a break. Hope to go for a quick walk if there's time before they return.

I will end the day with getting the egg hunt ready for the morning with DH help and hopefully a glass of wine to relax!

Sounds like the perfect, busy day.

I have just made a cake and prepped food for dinner tonight. My 95 year old nana is coming over this afternoon for tea and cake so I’m looking forward to that.

Spending my time now laughing at dc with their hangovers, stories of last night and frequent apologies to me for falling asleep on the train! I went to pick them up from the station but they fell asleep and missed the stop so had to get a taxi home from the main town near us, luckily the end of the line.

garlictwist · 04/04/2026 09:38

I've been for a swim. Meeting some friends in the Yorkshire Dales in a bit for a walk and some dinner.

mumonthehill · 04/04/2026 09:40

Ds gone to work, dh gone to see his ddad and i have made a chocolate torte for tomorrow and got the lamb out to defrost. Will watch the boat race later and potter I think. Weather horrible so might cosy up.

Tonissister · 04/04/2026 09:44

Morning @lucysmam. I love this thread.

You have been so productive. I want to know what bin you choose. My kitchen bin is a source of shame but every time I look for a replacement, I think: how much??? It's just a bin! And then don't buy one. This has been going on for years.

I'm impressed by your DD's work ethic. Good luck to her.

So far today I have fed, cuddled and played with our new rescue cat - he likes to wrestle with feet under the duvet and get me to run around the house with a bamboo stick which he chases. Also cleaned out his litter tray and washed him because he somehow managed to roll in his breakfast and came upstairs glossy with Whiskas gravy half way down his back!

Also fed the birds and the garden fox who is learning to keep his distance from new rescue cat. He knows who is boss.

Made some fresh coffee, had a hot cross bun for breakfast, answered some work emails and now got to get down to proper work, so I can be done by lunchtime and go for walk with DH. Adult DS coming over for Easter lunch tomorrow so need to marinate the lamb too. And clean the house!

Thanks for reminder about the boat race. I love watching it and didn't know it was on.

Good morning all.

It was going to be a very big day as I was surprising DP with a hot air balloon ride for his 60th birthday a week or two ago… but it’s too windy so it won’t happen today.

Ds has gone to parkrun, and dp and I are being very lazy and just getting up. I want to have a good look at all my seedlings and garden canes - I don’t think anything is ready to plant out yet. I’m also in an ongoing struggle of how to plant aubretia so it tumbles over our front wall, I’ve wanted aubretia since I was a small child as all the cottage gardens in our village had it. Then we will finish off the design for our wedding invitations. This afternoon we’ll watch the boat races on the livestream with hot cross buns, and something basic for dinner, maybe cheese on toast.

DilemmaDelilah · 04/04/2026 09:50

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

I have a wash on, but no particular plans for the day. I have had a few days with a bad back - exacerbated by standing cutting up the ingredients for the HUGE (and very delicious) stew I made yesterday. We ate some last night, the rest in is the freezer. Beef and stew vegetables are cheap in Lidl (and other places) pre-Easter so it was a good time to make the stew.

I will probably start sorting out some clothes for the few days we are spending going to see stepdaughter and her family next week. I haven't seen them for over 18 months as I was too unwell to travel, but Mr Dilemma visited several times last year. It's a long way, and expensive, (we have to stay in a hotel) so we don't see them as much as we should/would like.

I need to wrap some flapjacks for our delivery people. I had a postman knock on the door last week to tell me how delicious they are and how much she appreciates them. I told her Mr Dilemma makes them... he started doing it when I was ill after my first cycle of chemo and couldn't do it myself, and he is good at it.

I planted out some of my seedlings into a cold frame last week. When we come back from our stay away I will probably transfer them into my new raised beds and transfer some of my other seedlings into the cold frame. We have been trying to devise methods to ensure they all get enough water while we are away.

Mr Dilemma has put up the crop protection cage around the big raised beds - we keep seeing deer on our wildlife cameras (including one right outside the front of the house!) and I know we have foxes and badgers as well, so we need to protect our veggies.

I'm not sure what we're eating tonight... I think it might be burgers in buns with salad (for me) and chips (for Mr Dilemma). Something out of the freezer anyway.

Boxiboxi21 · 04/04/2026 09:54

I remember well when Easter was full of revision @lucysmam ! It still feels odd to have the whole 4 days free from work as a middle aged adult 😂
I'm going to try and sort the shed out today. It's still full of cardboard boxes and wood from my house move nearly a year ago. I'd also like to put up shelving for extra storage space and clear the spare room too.
Finally if there's time I could sow some more seeds, the ones I directly sowed into raised beds aren't doing well at all, because it's been far too cold and wet here recently.

Zippidydoodah · 04/04/2026 09:55

@lucysmam my dd is year 11 and has done next to no school work or revision this holiday 😢 I can’t force her! She’s off out shortly. She’s promised she’ll work hard next week. I keep telling her she needs to know that she did her best when she gets her results.

I’m building some drawers and decluttering my bedroom! Living the dream! 🤣

TheChosenTwo · 04/04/2026 09:58

Dh is just bumbling about getting ready to go and pick up the meat for the weekend and the week ahead from the butchers and when he’s back it’s project garden. I was dearly hoping this would be rained off 😂
we’ve got a busy and productive day today.

witchespocus · 04/04/2026 10:02

Good morning all. @lucysmamI’m glad you’ve found your new morning spot. Have you settled in to the new house okay?

I’ve had a productive morning. The house has been cleaned, I can see the bottom of both my washing and ironing baskets.

the weather is rubbish here and we don’t have much planned for the weekend but have a few day trips next week to look forward to.

We will try and get out for a walk today in between showers, the dc want to play some games this afternoon so we will do that too.

Tea will be homemade smash burgers and we will bake some mini egg cookies at some point.

Dc are pre teens so no more Easter bunny but I do have baskets that I will put together tonight for them.

Whattheduck · 04/04/2026 10:03

I’m still in bed been awake for ages but just been reading my book.I never normally lie in on a Saturday so it’s a rare treat
Going to have a shower then pop over to see my Dad and take him to get some shopping
On the way home I’m going to go to my favourite coffee shop for coffee and cake and sit and read my book for an hour
Dd is at work later but is going to see her boyfriend before work
Not sure what Dh is up too probably be out doing bits in the garden
I’ll whizz the Hoover round and clean the bathroom also have some washing to put away
We are having steak homemade chips peas and salad later and will watch a film
Enjoy your day everyone

topcat2014 · 04/04/2026 10:06

DD is back from uni, which is lovely. She was a little "poorly" earlier this morning following a night out...

I've just opened my art gallery for the day. Yesterday one of my card spinners took off down the street, and tipped over, so I need to weigh them down more today.

Bought hot cross buns to get me through the day.

Might do some social media posts later. Got a clever app where you upload once and it posts to all your social accounts.

Closed Easter Sunday and Monday

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 04/04/2026 10:09

Good morning lucysmam and others. I've had a long lie today and didn't get up till 7.30. Unheard of! Since then, I've had two coffees and two slices of toast and a cuppa. The ved is stripped and in the washing machine. I have thoroughly hoovered the kitchen and washed the floor and also washed the bathroom floor. Then I removed all the detritus from the dining room and started setting the table. I'm having a seat for a while and im watching The Greatest Story Ever Told. I'm not particularly religious, but I like the big Hollywood epics of yesteryear. Once the floor is dry, I'll move onto clearing the fridge ready for the tesco delivery this afternoon. Then finish setting the table for tomorrow. It's to be stormy later, so I aim to hunger down by late afternoon. Enjoy your day

lucysmam · 04/04/2026 10:15

@Zippidydoodah it's all she seems to do/think/talk about at the moment so the break will do her good. Dd1 was more like your dd but still did well. Dd2 has plans to increase her maths and science by a grade so is mostly concentrating on them.

@witchespocus yes, I think so, thank you. Downstairs is the focus for half term - decorating & finding homes for the last of the homeless things. Then think about storage for what would be in the loft if it was safe to use 🤔.

Hope you all have a lovely day 🌼

troppibambini6 · 04/04/2026 10:16

morning Lucysmam and everyone else. We’ve had a slow start to the day and thoroughly enjoying there being no sports for any of our kids this weekend.
dd2 is in bed and ds1 and 2 are in their rooms probably on screens.
I’m going to get dressed then me and dh are going to walk to the local coffee shop.

thebeautifulsky · 04/04/2026 10:17

Good morning Lucysmam and all,

Sat with DH having a cuppa and looking out at the horizontal rain and trying to decide if we should go out. We live rurally and when there's a storm, we get the full force as we're on the side of a hill. Beautiful though. We need a few top up bits of food so probably will have to go out at some point. I want to get a walk in too.

I was up very early this morning and tidied the kitchen, washed the floors, vacuumed the rugs and cleaned the downstairs loo. We're going out late afternoon to see DC and DGC at our eldests' house. We'll take Easter eggs for them all; children and adults! DGC have made Easter cakes for us. We'll be home early evening I think so will prepare toppings (I need to get from the shop) and salad for jacket potatoes.

A chilled Saturday evening as usual in front of the TV for me and DH.

lucysmam · 04/04/2026 10:18

Ah @topcat2014 my oldest was <ahem> poorly, yesterday, following Thursday night out drinking tequila & lemonade (has anyone ever drunk tequila with a mixer?). Hopefully a speedy recovery will be made 🤣.

nanoghost · 04/04/2026 10:23

It’s dd1s second birthday so we’re heading to the farm! It’s not meant to rain but has been drizzling all morning.

legosnowqueen · 04/04/2026 10:30

Good morning all, @lucysmamthanks for starting the lovely thread, your day sounds very productive already. I was up early for a grey & rainy dog walk & to pick up some strawberries from the Saturday market stall on our town’s main promenade. DDog very happy as found a discarded sausage on the pavement & managed to snaffle it. Today is all about decluttering - I’m trying to be very disciplined. DH is decorating the bathroom later, & DS is working this evening. Think I’ll resist the temptation to order a takeaway & will make a chicken curry at home instead. After a busy few months at work, I took Wednesday & Thursday as holiday to extend the Easter weekend, so after three days am feeling relaxed!

Tomorrow I will tackle the Student Finance reapplication - had planned to do that on Thursday but was sidetracked when logged on & found DS’s account had been hacked! His email address, home address & phone number had been changed - apparently by phone only 40 minutes before we logged on. Spent an hour on the phone to SFE sorting that out. Shocked that there is no 2-factor authentication on the website…the only security is a memorable question, which is the sort of thing that could easily be gleaned from social media or guessed at.

Hope everyone has a nice long weekend!
