oh these wonderful wonderful books, still make me laugh and I do re-read frequently!

Adrian would have been 58 today and the superb Sue Townsend would have been celebrating her 80th birthday.

Just finished Ghost Children, it was dark, but a very good read. Just bought Rebuilding Coventry

DS1 and I are reading the lost diaries at the moment. We absolutely lost it when Adrian made up a story for William about Noddy and Big Ears going out on the lash for Big Ears’ birthday and getting set upon by a gang of skittles 🤣

Edited

That sticks out for me as one of the funniest things out of all of the books. I laughed so hard when I read it and laughing now just thinking about it

My favourite part was when he got his first teenage spots. He is convinced he has some dread disease but nobody cares of course , least of all his GP.

'So much for the NHS , I'll just have to get a paper round and go private'

Thanks for sharing that @Designs. Lovely to see it.

I’m glad he ended up being Adrian rather than Nigel.

Thank you for sharing this. It is exactly what I needed to be listening too.
I wish Sue Townsend was around now, I’d love to hear what she makes of everything that’s going on.

Thanks for sharing this, I can’t imagine him being called Nigel especially as there is Nigel in the books.

I finished reading The weapons of mass destruction last night, I never get tired of reading them. I love the Flowers family in this one.

Oh, I vaguely remember that he was originally called Nigel! Thanks so much for that!

I'm on The Prostrate Years, when Adrian doesn't want to go out for his 40th birthday on the 2nd of April. But his Mum (Pauline Mole) thinks he needs to get out.

" She said, 'No, you can't stay at home on your fourtieth, It's not natural, is it Bernard?'
Bernard said 'I spent my fourtieth in a brothel in Marseille, caught the clap from a comely wench called Lulu'.
See, my mother said approvingly. Bernard knows how to enjoy himself!'

Go Pauline, she was awesome!

Pauline is a great character, I love her too.

Pauline is a great character, I love her too.

I love her response to the cardigan Adrian wants to buy in M&S.

'My mother said it made me look like Frank Bough and refused to pay for it'.

She also gets herself a punk t-shirt on the same trip.

Adrian has a friend Justine who likes skimpy clothes, and he tries to persuade her to wear more sensible things: she looks at him with horror in her eyes. Later, Justine says she has nothing to wear, so Adrian seizes the opportunity, and buys her a dress from Marks and Spencer. Justine looks at it, as says “it’s what your mother would wear”. She had never met his mother.

I went to Ashby de la Zouch yesterday.

It looks like a local society have put blue plaques around the town, didn’t see anything Adrian related though.
