Where the hell is my spoon?

I am feeling a bit haunted.
Short story: First world problem. Lost my spoon thrice - seemingly into thin air.

I got given a little cutlery set for my christening by my grandparents. Part of it was the perfect spoon. Not too big. Not too small with a little elephant on the handle.

When I was 18 I took it with me to university and it vanished. I put it down to stupidity taking it there and blamed my housemates. Although I never found it in their draws.

Fast forward and I am still thinking about that spoon and on my 44 birthday I put ‘elephant spoon’ into eBay and one pops up. I am so happy and I got my spoon back (although it probably wasn’t the exact one, obviously).

By 46, the elephant spoon vanished. Out the draw. I blamed my husband taking it to work based on no evidence, and strong denials.

Two weeks before my 47 birthday I go to this antiques place and ask the spoon man if he has one of the elephant spoons. He said no but I said ‘I just think it’s coming back to me’.

On my 47 birthday, husband had found another one on eBay and I got it for my birthday (again). It did come back to me like a Celine Dion song.

Two days ago I looked at the spoon in the draw but decided to go for another one. Today, it’s vanished. Out the draw. Thin air.

Does anyone know where my spoon has gone? Psychics? Scientists? People who have lost spoons?

I can’t believe it!!

The British Medical Journal published a study on the phenomenon of disappearing tea spoons :

Oh my word!! So I am no longer special - there are so many it’s been studied. I called on the scientists to explain it - and you have shared the link. Thanks I will read that today.

So the study concluded that a teaspoon was lost every 100 days and possible explanations include disappearance to a spoonoid planet - which I think we had already concluded along with the toothbrush, solitary socks and gloves. I also lose a lot of right hand gloves!!

I now have visions of teaspoons gathered under the floorboards like Borrowers welcoming the newly lost elephant spoon in hushed tones.
