I'm trolled by kate.

She’s just asking you to expand and explain your viewpoint, as far as I can see. No need to be so touchy.

I'm very sad that this has come out, I know many people weren't a fan of his but I listened to him a lot growing up on radio 1 etc and I'd never have imagined this happening. I do think the details may not ever be known, and a lot of it is pure speculation, but who knows, this day and age things seem to find a way of coming out online. I don't think it's helpful to be making statements about things that aren't facts like the age of the boy or the actual offences alleged etc, but obviously speculation is natural and will always happen

Well let’s wait and see what happens then. From both Scott Mills and the alleged victim’s side. By the way most victims of sexual assault don’t get very far, even prosecuted from what I’ve read online. Not saying anything should happen re Mills.

No I totally agree with you and trust me I am in no way whatsoever implying the victim is lying at all I think the opposite - I was more just saying I was saddened to hear it, and just aware that there are little details at the moment to go on. But please don't think I'm saying because I used to listen to him and liked him I think any of this is okay or untrue - it's very true what you said that very little victims of sexual assault get justice in the way of the abuser/perpetrator being convicted and facing criminal action. It's very wrong and I think it's a positive thing that people who commit these crimes are being held accountable in more cases now, especially historic cases where previously it was so unlikely to end in convictions or consequences.

Don’t worry thanks for explaining.

Whilst I think fair enough, I also feel for the others who were on the show, that they miss out because of his actions.

I expect they will but doesn’t make it fair on them!

Didn't he present TOTP for a bit? Between Savile, DLT and now Mills, are there any episodes of TOTP that can be shown?

He did but not til the 2000s. There have been loads of TOTP presenters though.

Although there have been some high profile scandals, regarding under 16 relations in that industry over the decades, it is a wonder that more stories haven’t come out.

It’s a musing from some but a PP used that age as it was fact, which is probably unwise

He didn't disclose the extremely important fact that the person he was accused of committing serious sexual offences against was thirteen

Yeah this was a poor choice of words from me...'a child' or similar would have been more appropriate.

Eesha · 13/04/2026 06:30

The papers seem to be insinuating that there's more to come here

OonaStubbs · 13/04/2026 06:51

What are the papers saying?

HoraceCope · 13/04/2026 07:00

i dont think DLT was guilty of anything? Wiki has corrected me

he is still working though.

This was in his autobiography released 14 years ago. Why on earth didn't the BBC do something then? I'm sure they would of if it was a straight man saying they'd pinned an ex girlfriend up to the wall by their throat.

Think BBC saw or didn’t see it, or put their head in the sand. I mean if he was violent back then maybe they thought he’d changed.

Was it that a continuous period was alleged or that the complainant couldn't remember the exact date so a window of time was used? The latter is not uncommon with reporting of historic allegations.

I think we should be careful about extrapolating anything with certainty based on such vague and limited information.

Poor form of me to mention a specific age while using that turn of phrase. Should have chosen my words more carefully.

Was it that a continuous period was alleged or that the complainant couldn't remember the exact date so a window of time was used?

We don't know. The police statement said they were investigating allegations of offences that...

"were reported to have taken place between 1997 and 2000."

...and that the alleged victim was "under 16" when they occurred.

So we know it's multiple offences, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they took place over an extended period.

But if the complainant was so unsure of the date of a single/brief interaction that he could only narrow it down to a three year window, it's unlikely that the police would have been specific with the years/age. Especially in a situation like this where three years either way is likely to have a significant impact on how people view the situation.

What should they have done?

What if he was a straight woman, fearful of an 'aggressive' boyfriend who'd moved himself in without asking, and she'd caught him cheating with her friend in her own house?

I think a woman would be forgiven, or even applauded, for giving the prat a slap or punting him between uprights before throwing him out in that scenario.

Regardless if it happened now and was made public, man, woman, gay, straight, I expect they'd be suspended while it was looked into. But we're talking about a nothingburger anecdote from the 90s in a book that dropped in the midst of the Saville scandal.

ThisOldThang · 14/04/2026 20:51

The age of consent for gay sex was reduced from 18 to 16 in the year 2000, so it still isn't clear if this involved a boy that was 15 or 13 in 1997.
