This is extremely sad - and she had no symptoms but it was found during a routine mammogram and was luckily caught early

She has very early stage cancer and will almost certainly be cured.

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 12/03/2026 17:37

I’m struggling to see why this is something you would start a thread about?

Ricky Gervaise is a celebrity; as far as I’m aware any partner of his is not. It would be like me posting a thread about my neighbour’s hip operation.

She's a famous writer, usually people use her own name rather than describing her as RGs partner. I'm not sure why the OP didn't as I'm sure many mumsnetters know who she is and it will be mentioned in the media.

Interested in this thread?

Then you might like threads about these subjects:

It’s an early breast cancer which whilst sad and probably very upsetting for her is likely to be dealt with quickly and easily and she will make a full recovery

I feel very strongly that early curable cancers are not dealt with and reacted to by complete gloom and doom when it’s almost certain, not 100%, but nothing is, that she will be fine

She’s actually an incredibly accomplished and popular author and has published many best selling novels.

She is. She’s an amazing bestselling author. But I figured people would know her by Gervais first and foremost.

And probably because of how beautifully he wrote afterlife where his character lost a wife to cancer.

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 12/03/2026 17:47

So why didn’t the OP lead with that?

TFImBackIn · 12/03/2026 17:48

Why on earth do you call her Ricky Gervais's partner and not Jane Fallon? She's a best-selling author, not just his partner.

YiddlySquat · 12/03/2026 17:49

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 12/03/2026 17:47

Because I couldn’t be arsed with all the “who?” Comments.

But I assumed it was common knowledge that she’s a bestselling author.
it’s also in the link

So sorry I shall make sure that next time I channel my psychic powers so I post ina way that is pleasing to everyone on MN 😂

What's the fact he wrote a series about a widower got to do with anything ? She's isn't dead.

It’s just giving ‘I’m first to know of celeb death, must post it on Facebook’ vibes

Oh well I’m sure I’ll get over that accusation.

This is a site for women and I thought that maybe it would go down the route of generating discussion about the importance of mammograms, and dealing with cancer in the public eye. Should have known I’d only get a pasting for not wording it the way people think I should have.

But I shall take myself off to self flagellate for all my sins in posting this on MN 😂

It’s not an accusation and thought you sounded like you DGAF so could take it well!

It is a site for women so lead with Jane Fallon IMO!

OverheardBreakup · 12/03/2026 18:56

This is very sad for poor Jane. I follow her on insta and saw the news. Seems like there’s a hopeful prognosis.

But I did love this great editing miss by the DM

‘Fallon and her husband have also been vocal about their decision not to marry.’

I was about to say this. So misogynistic to describe a woman as merely the appendage of a famous man.

She wrote Getting Rid of Matthew as her debut and it was excellent - a big hit at the time and also Tell Me A Secret amongst Others.

it’s like when people talk about Jonathan Ross’s wife and she wrote Stardust. It’s so reductive.

HenDoNot · 12/03/2026 19:08

Her name is Jane Fallon, she’s a very successful author.

”This is a site for women”
All the more reason to refer to Jane Fallon the successful author as Jane Fallon, rather than Ricky Gervais’ partner.

ismiledather · 12/03/2026 22:41

AnnaMagnani · 12/03/2026 17:29

She has very early stage cancer and will almost certainly be cured.

There are no certainties with cancer. Not even at an early stage unfortunately.

Miranda65 · 12/03/2026 22:45

I think this title should read "Bestselling author Jane Fallon diagnosed with.....".

It's 2026 and a successful, professional woman deserves to be known by her own name (even if she does have a famous partner).

BIWI · 12/03/2026 22:47

This is a site for women

So you thought you'd post about her illness only in the context of her male partner? FFS.

BruFord · 12/03/2026 22:53

Her diagnosis certainly emphasizes how important mammograms to catch cancers early.

MsGreying · 12/03/2026 23:11

Go for your screening.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 12/03/2026 23:12

Jane Fallon writes great chick lit

Hope she gets well soon x

AnnaMagnani · 12/03/2026 23:18

ismiledather · 12/03/2026 22:41

There are no certainties with cancer. Not even at an early stage unfortunately.

There is extensive survival information about every different type of cancer. Jane Fallon will be able to have information about this highly personalised to her tumour.

However in general 99% of women with stage 1 breast cancer survive 5 years. It's now 21 years since Kylie Minogue had her breast cancer and that was greeted with similar 'Kylie's going to die' responses.

In the UK 75% of women diagnosed with breast cancer at any stage will survive 10 years. Compared to the 70s when it was 42%.

We need to move on from greeting every cancer announcement as if it's imminent death.

BauhausOfEliott · 12/03/2026 23:18

That’s a shame and I hope she makes a full recovery but… not sure why this is more significant or thread-worthy than any other person getting breast cancer? It’s not an unusual situation.

Trampoline · 12/03/2026 23:23

Jane Fallon says she has an excellent prognosis in that article - "extremely sad" is probably not what she'd want to read! Let's be more positive and less doom and gloom..
