Hi I have a brother who is asking for some tinned fish for his birthday - sounds random but apparently it’s a thing? - can anyone recommend any specially please, or where to order from? Thanks 😊

Ooooh yes there’s a really posh fancy brand that does these super expensive tins - hang on

tripleginandtonic · 08/03/2026 19:42

Tuna, sardines, red and pink salmon, roll mops?

Mama1980 · 08/03/2026 19:44

Oh my goodness thank you so much - that link is perfect!
and I hadn’t thought of roll mops either.

I am a big fan of tinned fish but found that tin of oysters quite upsetting fir some reason! Looking at them makes me feel a bit ill!

MrsHaroldWilson · 08/03/2026 19:49

John West tinned oysters are absolutely phenomenal. I eat them on their own, they're so nice.

Dartmoorcheffy · 08/03/2026 19:50

I love tinned fish. Especially crab.

UnilateralDecisions · 08/03/2026 19:51

Now I want some fancy tinned fish.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 08/03/2026 19:53

Ortiz tuna is the GOAT - and the tins are beautiful

MrsHaroldWilson · 08/03/2026 19:54

That website is amazing, but sheesh! the cost. I'd bankrupt myself on there if I got going 😆

Is a crab a fish? 🤔

GameOfJones · 08/03/2026 19:55

I agree with Ortiz tuna. It is the absolute best!

Also look up Sea Sisters for fancy tinned fish, I tend to buy a few varieties for my dad as he loves it too!

vincettenoir · 08/03/2026 19:58

When I went to Le Tourquet last summer there were a few shops selling tinned fish in really pretty, colourful tins. Maybe it’s a French thing? I don’t know if that’s any help.

Is a crab a fish? 🤔

It isn't a fish, of course, it's a crustacean but in cuisine terminology it's classed as shellfish, same as lobster.

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 08/03/2026 20:06

Tinned oysters are wonderful!

there’s a man on TikTok who reviews tinned fish. Worth a look.

Does anyone know of any good recipies for this type of fish - the only one I know is sardines on toast 😒

MrsHaroldWilson · 08/03/2026 20:22

I genuinely think it's a waste to cook high quality tinned fish @mrbluebirdonmyshoulder . It's best appreciated unadulterated, with a simple accompaniment such as bread and butter to make a meal out of it.

John West have an appalling ecological marine record. They are responsible for the death of thousands of dolphins, turtles, sharks and other marine life. They really are a company to avoid.

The Los peperetes tuna I’ve screenshot is delicious.

M and S - Collection Pole and Line Caught Albacore Tuna Loins in Spanish Olive Oil. Think it is just over £4 a jar and I great for tea with a few leaves or bread and butter.
