Not least the therapist's outfits, start really strong with coffee coloured silk shirts then go a bit strange at the end with a horrible yellow thing
Also fascinated by how many of the girls are absolutely beautiful, but wear really strange outfits

I started to watch it but it seemed to be for people with no attention span so I stopped. Reading that back I sound really hypocritical! Grin

Oh my life! How did anyone give up?

I’m fascinated by it 😅

was there a reason they only had black (with the exception of one mixed race) couples on? I wonder how they all felt about having an older white therapist?

Yeah I can’t understand that either. Would have been nice to see a black therapist if they were mainly to have black participants.

Also Karen is probably an actor anyway isn’t she. I’ll have to read the credits and see if there’s ‘therapist advisors’ or anything listed 😄 you could predict every time she thoughtfully took her glasses off haha.

Also each couple only had like 2 sessions and they were sorted! Wanted more.

She addresses this at one point

a nice flip for a change.

It’s produced by a black production company - was originally on YouTube. The creator said something along the lines of therapy being seen as a middle class white thing - it’s been addressed here https://thetab.com/realityshrine/2026/03/10/producer-explains-why-all-the-couples-featured-in-blue-therapy-are-black/

Ive been following threads on Reddit too and lots of people commenting that it should be a black therapist. It makes me a little uncomfortable as if it was all white couples and the therapist was black and everyone complained that it should be a white therapist they’d rightly get called out for racism, no? And as far as I’m aware the couples are from all different backgrounds - some Nigerian, some Caribbean etc so what would the ‘right’ black therapist be…? I’m not sure how the colour of someone’s skin affects their ability to address these universal relationship issues… Think it’s really interesting that this has come up as an ‘issue’ so often

Producer explains why all the couples featured in Blue Therapy are Black

It's always been the focus of the show

It’s more just someone upthread said some cultural things are relevant - eg the prostrating - but obviously that’s not a tradition for all black cultures.

isla2009 · 11/03/2026 13:13

I think it could have done with being longer and exploring the couples issues more deeply - it did feel very superficial and that their issues weren’t properly addressed. Hopefully, if it’s successful there will be a future series with couples from all different backgrounds and that will go on for longer so we get a better idea of the issues and how therapy can help - I would love that.

Originalbutter · 11/03/2026 13:14

They seem to be paid actors not real couples!

Savonne · 11/03/2026 20:21

Even if it's a tradition you can call it weird

Shay is a caricature. I couldn’t stand her and couldn’t grasp why mons wasted her time even coming on the show to discus a serial cheater…

UglyJumper · 15/03/2026 22:00

Is this show real or scripted? The therapist seems so unbelievably judgemental and abrupt.
