Unsolicited comments from strangers - what’s your rudest/funniest one?

Bit of a funny one really but yesterday I was about to go for a walk near a nature area and I was putting my 4 month old in her pram. She had just been in the car for a little while so when I put her into the pram she started crying (don’t worry - she loves the pram and was fine as soon as we started walking!)

As I was putting her in a woman in her late 60’s/70’s walked past with an elderly man and she says to the man “oh a little crying baby! must be hungry!” She then asked me how old my baby was so I told her 4 months old and she says to me “she sounds hungry!” I said “no she’s just been fed (she had), she just doesn’t like being put down” (in a friendly way) and she says to me “oh you’ve spoilt her then!” and laughed. I was a bit taken aback because how can you spoil a 4 month old baby?? 😂

Anyway, she walked on and it wasn’t exactly a malicious comment but it did make me think why on earth do people always love to comment, especially to people they don’t know!!!

It just made me curious - what are the funniest/rudest/weirdest interactions people have had from strangers when out with their baby?

Whether true or not that gave me my first laugh of today. 😁

Oh true..myself and 2 male passengers in our car laughed....our first introduction to manchester !!

HortiGal · 28/02/2026 16:26

@Stickytoffeetartt I’m Scottish and I found that insane, would you laugh if she mocked a Jamaican accent, what an utter weirdo that poster is.

My son was ten at the time. Big lad for his age. Coming back from the shops and he was helping me carry some shopping . A lady stopped us and insisted he shouldn’t be carrying anything heavy at his age as it will make him infertile.

😂

He was obviously an imposter-if the was really Lord so and so he probably wouldn’t have introduced himself like that….

what? Confused how else would he have introduced himself, if Lord so-and-so was his name? And how on earth do you know how an unidentified complete stranger 'probably' introduces himself?

Yes, he could have used his first name,' but saying 'Oh, I don't work here, I'm Bob,' a) doesn't make any sense, and b) would probably result in OP wondering if she should alert someone to the fact a random visitor had started digging up their flowerbeds!

Fingalscave · 01/03/2026 16:11

@latetothefisting that poster you're replying to is well known on mn and other platforms for starting stupid arguments. She posts argumentative comments just to stir things up.

Paranoid psychosis with auditory hallucinations?

Yes - I’m close to someone with this and this is similar to the kind of thing that happens to him. He ‘hears’ people saying things even when no one has said anything at all. It’s pretty unnerving. Always something derogatory about him.

Poor man – that must be absolutely horrible for him.

I love your response Coffeechocolatewine !! Let's hope that woman learnt her lesson that day & stopped being a know it all (who knows f all) The cheek if her judging and assuming that you were deliberately starving your baby! Nutcase.

I had a bright green car for a while, and I was just getting into it in a supermarket car park when a man who was walking past said “did you actually choose that colour?” and walked off laughing and shaking his head. Unfortunately it was before I become aware of the phrase “did you mean to be so rude?”.

I do sometimes look at a really nice car in a really awful colour and wonder if they won it in a competition .
There's a shade of putty grey at the moment and I think "if I had £x to spend on a motor I wouldn't pick that one "

I wouldn't say anything to the owner of a lairy coloured car but think (a) you won't lose it in a car park and (b) no-one will steal it .

I used to drive a Blue Vauxhall that everyone insisted was purple . It was royal blue ."Is that your purple car" ? No it is blue , The log book says it is "Blue"

Looked cute on my Corsa , looked rubbish on a Frontera

At the nurse check up after I'd had my second daughter, she showed me a photo of her two sons and said, 'Nevermind, at least you have two healthy children.'
I hadn't wanted a boy child for a nano second.

In NYC years ago, I was wearing a pale blue shapeless puffer coat and cheap white plastic rimmed sunglasses. As I stopped to take a photo of something, a woman asked me in the best NY accent: are you in the faaaaashion business?
Gave me and friend a good chuckle.

Loads of ageism. What a surprise. A rude person is a rude person. It’s not age dependent.

I’m not sure it’s deliberately discriminatory, maybe it’s just an interesting phenomenon. I can only speak for myself of course, but 9/10 completely random/unsolicited/unhinged comments directed at me over the years have been from elderly women (particularly pregnancy and baby-related, which was incredibly tiresome) and middle-aged men.

Or they could only afford a second-hand car; and it happened to be that colour.

I've seen a lot of 25 and 75 plates in this colour. They tend to be the newer models not old bangers.

When I was buying my previous car, there was a livid green car on the forecourt. I asked about it (amazed by the colour, not because I wanted to buy it) and the sales woman told me it was definitely sold but TWO buyers were in a bidding war over it. She said cars in non-standard, wild colours always sell fast.

I was thinking about awful colours in general, not just putty.

WorthySloth · 02/03/2026 12:48

I like that putty colour and my husband is a big fan of a really vivid burnt orange that ford do.

I used to drive a small orange coloured car. Bought second hand from a garage, it was cheap because the colour wasnt popular. It did mean I could always find my car easily.

I went to visit a friend after getting married and becoming pregnant with my first son. When I'd lived in the city where I was visiting my friend I had been a bit of a party animal I'll admit. She and I went to see some of her friends who I knew slightly. The man said "oh I didn't know you're pregnant, congratulations, is the dad still around?" 😂

ToadRage · 02/03/2026 17:39

When i worked in a shop. I had just finished serving a customer in my usual courteous but cheery way when without warning or reason her husband leaned over-the counter and said ' your attitude stinks'.

Allywill · 03/03/2026 00:54

Was on holiday with my husband and our 2 daughters aged 5 and 7. Two old women approached me and just straight out asked if the children were actually mine! I was so taken aback I just said yes of course. it was only afterwards I thought how rude! (tbf they look more like husband than me but even so)

These are high end cars that catch my eye , not a dodgy coloured 2008 plate Yaris .
I drove past a car today , sporty . loads of money , Kermit the Frog green.

These cars are not "Oh I need a 7 seater or I need a car with a big boot but I can only afford this one "
They are more than I'd dream of . Chosen in a manky colour Hmm

This reminded me of when I worked in a jewellery shop when someone actually wrote my boss a letter about how awful and rude I was. I genuinely was not, my boss laughed it off because he knew it was rubbish but it stuck with me that people could be that vindictive.

I haven’t replied to any of this thread but I do love most of these comments - some odd ones out there 😂

The reason I am replying to this one is because I bought a new car and the ‘standard’ colour was a horrible bright green. All of the other, nicer colours you had to pay extra for. I ended up paying extra just to have a nicer colour. Even if you get a car on PCP it can be sometimes an extra £20, £30 a month just to have a black car instead of the standard colour for example. Might be why you see some horrible coloured cars around - people can’t afford / don’t want to pay extortionate money for a ‘nicer’ colour.

Thanks for all the comments guys - truly wasn’t expecting this many 😂
