Light-hearted: What surprised you today?

Just that really....

I'll go first:

  • My boss who is normally an absolute knobhead was actually half decent today, agreed to finally deal with an issue that I've been flagging up with him for months, and seemed to care about my actual wellbeing for once
  • I've just eaten a full pepperoni pizza and a box of halloumi fries TO MYELF - mini eggs and two bottles of wine in the fridge which I fully intend to crack open later (I don't work Fridays)

Enjoy your feast.

What surprised me was it wasn’t as cold as I expected on my walking dog walk this morning and it wasn’t raining either (rained later).

Lighterandbrighter · 19/02/2026 19:24

That despite being slightly under the weather both of my children were absolute delights today and we had a really lovely family day out.

  1. How juicy the clementine was that I found in my work bag. I don't even normally like clementines much.
  2. How tasty my improvised "Eggs Floredict" was (eggs and bacon and spinach and hollandaise on a toasted muffin!)
  3. How many times I can sneeze in succession. I'm up to about 7 or 8 now...

My Evri parcel was delivered, to my front door and it hadn’t been squashed, run-over or dropped.

Myoldbear · 19/02/2026 19:30

How good my coffee tasted today.
I always make it in exactly the same way, and every day it seems to turn out differently.

No idea what the confounding variable is!

canuckup · 19/02/2026 19:36

It looked warmish, but was surprisingly cold, good job I wore the parka

10 minutes ago I discovered, on another thread, that there is such a thing as a portable bath.

Like a baby bath? Or something bigger?

How would you drain it? (Sorry, it had never occurred to me before)

Ilovemyshed · 19/02/2026 19:43

Took my 90 year old father out for a snack lunch and he ordered chips and dips and thoroughly enjoyed a very spicy salsa!

GameofPhones · 19/02/2026 19:45

Immediate success of getting my dog to go into his crate by putting my dressing gown in there. He's staying happily in there ever since, apart from walks and meals. Luckily I have two similar dressing gowns (both fleece). I plan to keep the one needing washing in there until I do the laundry, then swap them over.

maxbranning · 19/02/2026 19:45

I had a letter through my door asking if I’d consider my house to be used as a filming location. I called the production company back and the guy came and took photos. Now eagerly awaiting to see if we get chosen!

That curling (the sport, not the hairstyling technique) makes great TV viewing.

PS My scent is supposed to be the lure.

Full size adult bath. I was both surprised and amazed that such a thing existed.

Wow!
I am somewhat surprised too.

dudsville · 19/02/2026 20:04

I can't think of anything that I've been surprised by today, but I love the notion so I'm going to keep an eye out for this tomorrow!

Wilkolampshade · 19/02/2026 20:16

Thought she’d be in hiding!
I woke up and realised I’d slept 8 hrs!

Were you bailing someone out?

ShakyBake · 19/02/2026 22:38

WhitstablePearl · 19/02/2026 22:34

Where?

Greggs M4 services (westbound) at 7.30am. she's not actually been seen publicly since September (I looked it up) and I am 85% it was her and person serving said the same. She bought the bacon bap meal deal and was driving a fiat 500

On the run? 😂

ShipshapeShore · 19/02/2026 22:47

The amount of stuff my house has seemingly managed to sort of vomit while we're packing to move tomorrow. Where the flip did it all go?! (This was not a nice surprise)
