Dd(6) who has autism and is non verbal had today had an average day

one meltdown over her hands being sticky after she STUCK THEM IN ICING?! 😂🙆‍♀️

no desire to play with toys with mummy, but happily made cupcakes. Wee weeing on the carpet despite being able to tell me when she needs the toilet (says toilet)

how are you coping? Just 7 days left 😂

Yeah thats exactly it. I'm powering through this week like you. But I'm so aware that the 7 week (7!!) summer holidays are fast approaching, and how in the hell am I going to survive that

It’s terrible isn’t it, that we’re already getting anxious about, and it’s 5 months away. Everywhere gets so busy too, so also limited on where we can go during the holidays.

Tiramisuforone · 19/02/2026 17:11

I'm on PDA meltdown approx 1,000,000 of half term 😖

Helplessandheartbroke · 19/02/2026 18:56

Hope everyone's had a decent day. 1 day left... weve been up since 4 and I've worked today 🙄

We had a pretty good day yesterday even though we stayed in and chilled. However today he has woken up in a spectacularly bad mood. Everything is wrong, his mouth feels wrong, the sky is wrong. So yeah. Not great. Thankfully my DH is off work today. I am currently 'enjoying' soft play with my 7 year old while my husband deals with rage boy.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 20/02/2026 11:25

Finally up now after a late night

dd’s sausages made, orange juice ready and it’s back to bed so that mummy can wake up

@MightyGoldBear ❤️💐 to you, it sounds tough girl - do you already have a disability social worker? If not, I am looking into Getting one for my dd so wil report back

Are you a solo parent like me?

how old are they? Could you leave one at home for a short period or is it just impossible? x

Thank you,
❤️💐To you, it sure is tough for us all.
Looking into a disability social worker so would be very interested to hear it's it's beneficial. Unfortunately I've found most of the support offered in my area is really lacking. Some I'm still on waiting lists for since last year. It's the big 6 weeks I dread the most.

No I do have a partner who is really great so I am very aware I am extremely lucky for this it can test the best of relationships. No friends or family though so it's very much us against the world.

I can take them out for a walk and leave the eldest at home on a good day but it's my middle one that really needs one to one and everything on his terms. My youngest is only three and needs much the same. On a bad day that's a meltdown or running off /into road. Both running in the opposite directions. One desperately wanting to run off/go further and one making a run for home. So it's not impossible just tricky. They are 11,8 and 3.

Monday was by far the worst day. Since then they have really adjusted to being at home. They had a park day/mini bike ride on Wednesday and then we've done mostly playing in the garden, playing roblox together or films. We keep it's really simple so my middle one can then cope with going back to school or ebsa starts again 😬 It's just the guilt I struggle with knowing I can't give them all the one on one they deserve.

Helplessandheartbroke · 20/02/2026 12:28

@mumofoneAloneandwell sorry you've had another bad night its so hard when they dont sleep. Is dd on melatonin?

@MightyGoldBear you do what you can and it sounds like youre doing great. Have you considered a double buggy for outings? We have a disability buggy for big days out and holidays etc and ds is a runner!

Tiramisuforone · 20/02/2026 13:04

thank you for the little emojis that pp's put on my post, it really helps I feel so alone

Tiramisuforone · 20/02/2026 13:08

please op think about keeping this going into the new half term, if would help me feel less like all I do is get everything wrong for my SEN DC (solo mama, no network, just me 24/7)

Helplessandheartbroke · 20/02/2026 13:16

@Tiramisuforone op has kindly added a support thread on the SN board for us :) kept this for traffic. You're not alone. I've been told my GP this morning for help as its exhausting and has a huge impact on our MH. Wouldn't change them for the world would we but its not easy being a SEN mum

Could we have a link for the new support thread please? I have not found it so far. Thanks 😊

mumofoneAloneandwell · 20/02/2026 15:29

Hey everyone just catching up

will make one now - I will put it in chat as I’ve found out that SEN board threads don’t show up on active! Apparently people were being dicks in their replies!

today, dd is entertaining herself briefly while I scrub the carpet on the stairs - she’s taken to weeing on them!!

Hey everyone

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/_chat/5493437-sen-parents-support-group-thread-1

i ended up keeping it on chat so it’s easier for people to find us, but can ask for it to be moved to the sen board later on if it’s not working out

will catch up shortly, back to scrubbing the carpet for me 😂😪
