Is this the quickest ever standard passport renewal?

I applied on online on Tuesday night and posted my old passport back to them on Wednesday after work (first class recorded delivery). New passport is being delivered today. So 4 days in total. Now that is gold standard service! Well done Liverpool passport office!

Mine arrived in 4 days, my adult son was the same.

Oldraver · 07/02/2026 20:22

Yes I had similar last year, Monday to Friday. DS's the same which was lucky as he hadn't realised it expired.. three weeks before going away

OH's took months, it was so frustrating as no one could give him a reason why

shuffleofftobuffalo · 07/02/2026 21:03

My last renewal was like this! And it was peak holiday time.

@TulipTuesdaystandard passport renewal not fast application involving an interview.

Mine wasn’t a fast application. It was a first ever passport. I really wasn’t expecting it to arrive so quickly. To arrive less than 12 hours later surprised me.

@TulipTuesday You had an interview. That is the fast option not a standard application.

It’s been great for years. To be fair it’s a process that’s very very easy to standardise.

As it was a first adult passport I had to have an interview. I wasn’t aware that that made the process quicker, I certainly wasn’t told it would be.

I just joined in on your thread to express my surprise that my first passport was as quick as it was, but clearly you’re annoyed that I dared join in seeing as you pulled me up twice so I’ll head off.

DP and I both did ours recently. Mine took a week (Saturday to Saturday). DPs also took a week but he did his over Christmas so they would have been closed for most of that time, we did worry that it would have been stuck in the system during the holiday period.

I'm also impressed with how they use your passport photo on your driving licence. Due to when we moved into our current house, every ten years we need to renew our photocard licences shortly after our passports, so it's easy to do when our new passports arrive.

Newlittlerescue · 11/02/2026 17:27

DS's passport renewal arrived today, so 8 days after receipt of expired passport. Colby passport office. He's dual nationality so extra checks potentially.

Just updating as this is a good resource for those searching current lead times.

BogRollBOGOF · 11/02/2026 17:44

Mine was quick last month. Took the photos and filled in documents on Sun, posted old passports Mon, mine was approved Thurs and printed and sent for delivery on Fri.

DS's took a bit longer but he's u16 and his was posted to a different office. Still within two weeks though.

It is a rare example of a process becoming more efficient and simpler. It helps that the photo booth puts the photo into the system.

Musicmummy63 · 11/02/2026 17:48

Mine took 5 days in 2023.

Abustedflush · 11/02/2026 18:42

Me too! Replaced within 5 working days last month.
Another example of (NOT) Broken Britain!

nomas · 11/02/2026 18:44

It's February, so makes sense, but that is extremely quick.

Flidina · 11/02/2026 19:00

Mine was the same , applied on the Monday , sent off old passport same day, new one arrived on the Thursday

bornintelligent · 11/02/2026 19:03

Yes mine was back within 4-5 days .
edit to say 2024.

Wellfuckme · 11/02/2026 19:08

If it was Liverpool office then the match must have been on 😉

maddiemookins16mum · 11/02/2026 19:09

Mine took 5 days last October.

mynamesaretaken · 12/02/2026 05:32

Mine took the same, I was super impressed! I think the longest part of it all was taking the photo actually as I took it myself and had multiple attempts to make one where I wouldn't hate the look on my face. If anyone's thinking of doing the same, totally do so, you get as many retakes as possible 😂here are the general specifications that need to be remembered and that's pretty much it.

Bjorkdidit · 12/02/2026 05:53

Same here @mynamesaretaken. I like how they tell you if it will pass when you upload it but we had a frustrating time getting a photo of me that was suitable.

I had to do mine in January as it had gone over the 10 year rule and I'm going away in a couple of weeks - didn't know at the time how fast they were coming back. Couldn't do it before then as I had a little mini break between Christmas and New Year.

I wanted to wait until I'd done my hair but I was ill over Christmas so didn't get round to it for a few days. Also needed to get the light right in our house. We have a lot of white walls but the weather was shit so it seemed very gloomy - didn't think that would get a suitable photo.

Finally the planets aligned and I'd done my hair and the light was good so I asked DP to take my photo, and the first one seemed fine but when I uploaded it, said there were invisible shadows across my face. He took a few more, which it liked none of 'because it couldn't tell me clearly from the background'. This is a photo of dark haired woman wearing a bright green top, standing against a white wall Hmm. By now the light was starting to fade and it could have been game over for that day. I finally realised that it was my 'done' hair that it didn't like so I kind of smoothed it down (normally have a bit of a Caitlin Moran back combed style) and finally it accepted it, even though it was starting to look 'shadowy' as we'd had to put the light on by now. So I have my new passport and for the next 10 years that and my driving licence show me with shit hair.

Newlittlerescue · 12/02/2026 08:16

I didn't realise until I got DS's passport back yesterday that the photos are much larger and higher quality (and one in colour!) than they were on the old European passport. I applied for my renewal last weekend, didn't really worry at all about how I looked in the photo (other than making sure it met their criteria) as I assumed it would be shrunken, pixellated and B&W.

Not so!

LifeOfANoGirl · 25/02/2026 11:14

I’m very anxious right now as standard passport adult renewal, applied 14th February and sent the old passport back same day. It’s not been processed yet and is still sitting at “documents received.” Today is day 11 and others seemed to have had theirs back much quicker.

I’m due to travel the end of next week (so had allowed 3 weeks) but quite worried. A friend who applied recently had theirs back within a week.

Newlittlerescue · 26/02/2026 12:41

@LifeOfANoGirl Has it been 11 days since the you got the 'documents received' email or 11 days since you applied?

I applied for mine on the 7th, documents received email came on the 12th, application approved/passport printed emails on the 19th, and I received it on the 21st. That was with the Colby passport office.

LifeOfANoGirl · 26/02/2026 16:57

No 8 now from documents received, we thought the 3 weeks was from when application was submitted otherwise would have gone fast track. I can see on the site that shares processing times people who have had theirs back who applied after me to the same office though, so very worried.
