I applied on online on Tuesday night and posted my old passport back to them on Wednesday after work (first class recorded delivery). New passport is being delivered today. So 4 days in total. Now that is gold standard service! Well done Liverpool passport office!

I’ve never known it to take more than a week anytime from November to March. It must be the most efficient government service.

LlynTegid · 07/02/2026 10:39

Don't create an expectation OP!!

Seriously, anyone planning a summer holiday, check your passport now to see it has an expiry that is enough for the country you are visiting. Don't leave it until a couple of weeks beforehand.

OneFootAfterTheOther · 07/02/2026 10:40

Mine took 4 days too. DH took the photo

7238SM · 07/02/2026 10:44

That is quick OP.
DH posted his off between Christmas/New Years and got it back the following week. Considering the bank holiday and weekends, he was very impressed.

bugalugs45 · 07/02/2026 10:53

i ordered mine a couple of years ago , also in January ,
and had it back within 6 days ,
but 4 is super swift !

TheRuffleandthePearl · 07/02/2026 11:15

The last time I had to renew my passport was in early December a few years ago, I also got mine back quickly I think it was about a week. Off season is definitely the time to do it!

gototogo · 07/02/2026 11:18

Was the same last week for dh, well applied Monday evening , sent Tuesday morning, got message on Thursday to say it was done and it arrived Friday morning.

ALunchbox · 07/02/2026 11:55

4 days for us too. Not Liverpool but can't remember where

Barnsleybonuz · 07/02/2026 12:11

I think mine was 5 days and similar go one of my kids. Brilliant service

HardworkSendHelp · 07/02/2026 12:16

That is amazing! I was impressed with getting a first time Irish passport for my daughter in under 3 weeks from sending the application to receiving the passport!

3678194b · 07/02/2026 14:01

Well done for getting them back so fast. I need to renew DC's. We will do a fasttrack though, as I'm a worrier! The price is worth it to me, to reduce the worry. Although many come back fast you also hear horror stories of them taking many weeks.

Clearinguptheclutter · 07/02/2026 14:04

Mine was 9 days in November

i think HMPO might these days be the most efficiently run government office these days, but so it should be cos passports are v expensive

DS applied last Saturday for renewal, documents were received on Tuesday, but no further progress (just checked online). But the address to send the documents was Corby so presumably a different passport office (plus DS is a dual citizen so might slow things down...)

My Son’s is the same. They got his old passport Monday but didn’t update it until Tuesday and no update since. Mine was back in 5 days

dizzydizzydizzy · 07/02/2026 17:33

This is a quiet time of year for the passport office. I remember seeing a chart once of how many passports they issue per month. Summer is busiest.

TulipTuesday · 07/02/2026 17:35

I applied for a first adult passport this time last year. I had the interview on Friday at 4:15pm.

i received my passport the following day!

Ridingthegravytrain · 07/02/2026 17:39

Yep got mine back within the week and my old one returned which I didn’t pay the extra for just standard delivery. Took my photo myself on the iPad too. Very pleased. Well, apart from the fact I looked like a criminal

yellowsun · 07/02/2026 17:39

Just had mine back after 4 days also- from Hemel Hempstead. I couldn’t believe it!

Isekaied · 07/02/2026 17:40

I got mine in 7 days.
Sent off my passport on last week Monday. Applied on the Monday.

But Royal Mail took about 4 days to get my old passport to them. Was worried it may have got lost.

Then new one came this Tuesday.

Think its a good time to apply.

Expect it would be much busier in Summer.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 07/02/2026 17:41

Pretty standard these days from what I can gather.

Someone needs to look at what's happening in the passport office and figure out how to apply it to other public services!

EmpressSisi · 07/02/2026 17:46

DH and a friend both sent theirs off, had them renewed, and received new ones — all in under a week this month (we’re based in the North West).

Miracles really do happen 😳🙏✨🤣

HollywentLightly · 07/02/2026 18:06

It must be an international improvement in passport system, I'm in Ireland and had my renewal in 38 hours last summer.

Mine went to corby and took 7 days

NeverHadAPantry · 07/02/2026 18:21

@Newlittlerescue mine went to Corby too.

Boutonnière · 07/02/2026 18:27

A couple of weeks ago : applied online on the Thursday evening, posted off old passport 1st Class on the Friday, old and new arrived on the Tuesday. Very impressed.

LastNightMyPJsSavedMyLife · 07/02/2026 19:43
