I’m on a group called Extreme Day Trips and plenty of people go just for the day. Do it! Is this a Wowcher deal? I’m looking for something short.

I definitely would. I once went to Tenerife on Thursday morning and came back Sunday. Felt like a lovely break. I got an early flight and was in a sun lounger by 11.30

Did 4 nights in Tenerife last week and it was fine .6am flight out from local airport (40 mins away) sunbathing at the pool by 12 .
Arrived back in the uk at 10.30pm so almost 5 full days and was so worth it just to get a bit of sunshine!
I'm assuming you'd be flying hand luggage only and that makes a massive difference...

There are currently some issues arriving and leaving Tenerife South airport as they’ve installed fingerprints ID machines. Causing queues in and out!

Wasn't a problem last week when we arrived but we were the only flight coming in ...probably took an extra 4 minutes.

HarryVanderspeigle · 03/02/2026 15:18

Sure would! I have done Bruges for 2 nights and that's probably as much travel time as you need multiple trains. I would love some sun right now!

Someone know arrived yesterday and said it’s chaos. I am hoping it’s sorted before I go there next week!

I think it’s fine. I’ve flown to a few 4 hr destinations for as long of a holiday. I’d do 4 nights if you can but why not. I’m going there tomorrow for (I think) 5 nights which is the longest holiday I’ve had in ages. It really is horses for courses as my friend says he wouldn’t even consider doing it for less than 10 nights but that’s crazy to me.

Apparently you just have to check for the green light and otch people forwards when you notice it as no one is looking.

Where do you live that your closest airport is a 3 hour drive? Mid wales I assume?

Cumbria, but I'd imagine there are plenty of rural parts of Britain with similar journey times to an airport - or at least one with flights to wherever you want to go. Newcastle is actually nearer to us. It's just over 2 hours if you are lucky with weather and traffic but it's probably the most unpredictable as there's no motorway and big chunks of road with very few safe overtaking opportunities, plus there hardly ever seem to be direct flights to where I want to go so I haven't flown from there very often. Glasgow, Edinburgh, Liverpool and Manchester airports are all about 3 hours from our house in typical traffic - a bit quicker in the middle of the night and in the Winter, potentially a fair bit longer in peak holiday times as our local traffic gets very heavy in the Summer.

Musicaltheatremum · 03/02/2026 15:31

I went for 4 nights. Arrived Monday night about 9pm. Left Friday lunch time. Had 3 good days. I went by myself and it was just enough. Flew from Edinburgh so over 4 hours.

Same in Fuerteventura. Ok on Sunday as fewer flights but Saturday and Wednesday chaos. The machines keep crashing and the border forces/police won't supply enough staff to manage the booths.

Waitingfordoggo · 03/02/2026 15:35

I would. We live pretty close to Gatwick. However I’d book a very early flight out and a late flight back to maximise the time. We’ve just had 5 nights in Lanzarote and that felt like a proper break, but 4 or 3 nights would have still felt like a decent break I think.

FlibbertyGibbitt · 03/02/2026 15:45

Went early March last year for 5 nights. Was too cool for me and a long way for a short time.

lulu55xxx · 03/02/2026 16:29

The price has jumped up to £610 now for the 3 nights which I’m not keen on paying if I’m honest
We have our main 10 night holiday in June
So if it doesn’t come down I’m gonna have to suck it up and wait for June

It’s Los Gigantes (if I’m spelling that correctly )

I've been there - I really liked it!

Makingadecision · 04/02/2026 18:16

I did Tenerife for four nights this year. Much needed warmth and sunbathing. I thought it was worth it for sure
