What helps you enjoy your life?

Just that really.

After an incredibly tough 2 years and a few months experiencing burnout I woke up this morning with the feeling that I really want to start enjoying my life again. I’m mid 30’s with no DC.

I also want to retrain and study again but I’m not sure if I’m ready.

What helps you?

Focussing on the positive - by which I mean don't allow unnecessary negativity or drama into your life. Say yes to what works and no to what doesn't. That doesn't mean being selfish: you can still be outward-facing, generous and helpful, but don't allow people who spread negative energy into your life or say yes to things you hate because of a sense of obligation.

I sing in a choir which I absolutely love - just turning up and leaving everything that's going on with work, kids, whatever, at the door and focussing on singing and learning for 2 hours - it's the best bit of the week.

Walk every day regardless of the weather. It always makes you feel better.

Focusing on the positive

This is so important! Particularly atm when a) it's winter, gloomy, grey, endlessly wet and miserable and b) the news is full of awful things that can easily ruin your day/depress you before you've even got out of bed. I think it's really important to look on the bright side in life generally.

Supporting a football team.

It gives you something to look forward to but it can be stressful!

Yoga has transformed my life. Never imagined I’d be this fit, this calm, this person.

Taking the news with a pinch of salt
Being optimistic
Being grateful for what i do have
Not having much but being financially secure
Not comparing myself to others, accepting myself
I also very much related to the obsession posts, i am hardly ever bored!

Oh i should add having hobbies that increase your skillset, not just quick entertainment

Enough money not to panic if something goes wrong. Never been in this position until covid, cleared od, mortgage came to an end, car paid off. We live a quiet life, but its nice to be able to not worry if we need an electrician-like this week.

Exercise, good friends, good sleep, reading.

Time alone, sufficient funds to enjoy hobbies, volunteering, travel, friends..... there can be so many things, OP. You just have to find what is right for you and creates the "spark".

Tupperwarefan · 08/02/2026 08:25

For me, going for a walk in the countryside. I sometimes don’t want to go out, but when I do I always feel much better, no matter what the weather! I also love my cats…

I’m like this too. I have autism. I go through cycles of being super into something and then it switches to something else. It’s been the Second World War, titanic, serial killers, learning how to decorate, cruises (watching vlogs on them and learning all about the different cruise lines) and now Disneyland - even though I don’t really want to go to Orlando I watch endless vlogs about it and it’s like I have to know everything there is to know. It’s very relaxing.

I know exactly what you mean and I do this too - I love it when something takes my interest and this happens. The only problem is I can’t force it to happen and it doesn’t happen a lot so I have to wait til something grabs me and it hasn’t for a while! Any tips on getting an interest/obsession going?!
Sorry to slightly derail this lovely thread, OP!

Good books
nice tv show

I do enjoy my job as well which definitely helps.
