JD Sport carrier bag

Bit niche but does anything think if I went into JD Sport they would let me buy one of their plastic bags??

DS has gone through the ones that came with stuff I bought him from there previously and there's nothing he fancies from there at the moment but his last beloved bag is hanging on by a thread!

I wrapped up two for my nephew for Christmas and I'm the best auntie 😂😂 80p well spent.

Oh no, the latest updates re: not being allowed to sell them

We got one in summer and just bought the cheapest sports socks they had!

TwattingDog · 27/01/2026 22:15

Yes - just spend £3 on some socks in the sale or something!

I’ve asked to buy just carriers several times now - the last time only in December - and it’s always been okay. From having three colours previously (black, yellow and white), there seems only to be yellow available now and the assistant suggested that this would be the only colour from now on. Thankfully, DS is happy to use the yellow ones for his PE kit!

I help sort the lost property for my son’s school. I have half a dozen of these bags. If you have no joy I can send you a couple for postage 🙂

Oh kierenthecommunity! That is so kind, thank you so much. I'll pop to JD this afternoon and hopefully I'll get someone who doesn't much care what the policy may be. If no luck, I would love to take you up on your very kind offer and would be more than happy to cover postage, thank you 😊

I bought 15 in December to use as gift bags for DC’s football team party.

liveforsummer · 28/01/2026 12:51

Was also just going to suggest the cheapest pair of socks or water bottle if no luck. You’d need to get a jobsworth to refuse though. I’m sure the last time we went to jd they just had normally shaped carriers though, not the drawstrings

kierenthecommunity · 28/01/2026 21:15

Any update @TabbyBeast

Can’t believe how invested I am in the jobsworth-ness of a JD employee of an area I don’t live 😂

Haha! I definitely wasn't expecting so many responses!

No luck at JD. I think I got a manager :( if your kind offer is still available I would love to take you up on it. Happy to get postage costs to you however you prefer. Thank you so much x

What did they say?

He just said sorry, they aren't allowed to sell individually. He was nice about it though

I can't help feeling that JD are missing a trick here. A quick Google says that similar quality drawstring bags cost between 2p and 40p to manufacture in bulk. If they sold individual bags for a £1 they'd make a big profit.
Sports Direct sell their huge bags for life for around £1.50 to £3, depending on size.

TabbyBeast · 30/01/2026 20:39

@Thatcannotberight Exactly! And it's advertising too, that we're willing to pay to do for them!
