I’m a wimp - will I like ‘Stranger Things’?

I am a self confessed scaredy cat.
I don’t mind a bit of gory-horror, but I don’t do spooky-horror.
Will I be able to cope with Stranger Things?
I’d like to watch it… I think 😬

I don't think so. I lasted one series and my friend lasted 5 minutes

StillFeelingTired · 26/01/2026 18:45

Ooh. I like spooky but not gore. I loved the first series but then got bored.

LorenzoCalzone · 26/01/2026 18:46

I was spooked by season 1 and couldn't watch it alone

HolidayHunter7 · 26/01/2026 18:52

I’m a scaredy cat too! I can watch it and am reasonably enjoying it (don’t get the mad hype about it but it’s ok) but DH has to be with me, I wouldn’t watch it alone.

Geronimode · 26/01/2026 19:04

nooooo it’s grim

tedibear · 26/01/2026 19:06

U can tell me if u give it a go lol. I tried and after about 1minute I was no get it off. Im not watching it coz i dont want to spend hours hiding behind a cushion. I already was right at the start 🤣 My kids are usually up at some point in the night and I’m wandering about in the dark I don’t want to be scared thinking that thing is waiting on me coz that’s how my mind works 😆

My 8yr old is desperate to watch it, eh no!

MadisonMarieParksValetta · 26/01/2026 19:12

It isn't spooky at all.

StripedVase · 26/01/2026 19:12

It's quite whimsical, and funny throughout, but it is horror, so if that's just not your thing it's probably It's not your thing! It gets more intense series by series, growing up with the characters.

It's brilliant though!

MadisonMarieParksValetta · 26/01/2026 19:13

My 7 year old watched it. As did all his friends. Its gory sometimes. But not spooky.

It's also fantastic. So I vote for watching.

MyDarlingClement · 26/01/2026 19:13

It's not spooky but is gory. I don't like horror but loved it.

Owlmoonstar · 26/01/2026 19:15

I am a massive wimp and it's totally fine I promise.

Lilacblu · 26/01/2026 19:20

Well I'm a wimp too and I googled saying is it all right for kids thinking if they can watch it so can I.. well I didn't make it through many episodes where I was wondering why I was watching it as its just scary...!!! It's not as bad as some of the really nightmareish films... so far??? Maybe 5/6 episodes in?

Crinkle77 · 26/01/2026 19:27

I'm a proper wimp and managed it but I did have to use the cushion quite a bit but I loved it. Couldn't binge watch or watch before bed. I just couldn't look Vecna in the face cos he was just horrible 🤣

elm26 · 26/01/2026 19:59

I HATE anything horror and my DH hates jump scares but DH and I have recently binged watched this, it is amazing! The worst it gets is alien looking things and a fair bit of blood so if you’re bothered by that then don’t recommend but honestly, wouldn’t class it as horror at all! It’s actually funny in some parts and you watch the characters grow up from childhood, it’s been an amazing ride!

Dontlletmedownbruce · 26/01/2026 20:02

It was too gory for my taste but I also really loved it in other ways so got over it. I often covered my eyes. I didn't find it particularly scary but it was sometimes disturbing. Once it was over it didn't stay with me and upset me the way a psychological thriller might do.

Give it a go! It's a great show.

Treylime · 26/01/2026 20:02

I'm an wimp and I enjoyed season 1, it was at my limit of my scariness level but was fine.

Nomnomnew · 26/01/2026 20:29

I don’t watch any horror stuff as a general rule but I was fine with it. Series 4 maybe lent a bit spooky for a couple of episodes but it’s really not that bad - I wouldn’t have watched it all if it was! If anything it got a bit gory for me, but that’s because I’m really squeamish. It was still fine and it’s very good though.

MamaMumMama · 26/01/2026 20:33

It’s amazing. You’ll love it

Incalescent · 26/01/2026 20:41

Im watching it at the moment with my teenager. I can’t watch anything even remotely horror- y, frightening or violent (I mean, I didn’t even get three episodes into Game of Thrones), and I had no issue at all with the first two seasons, the third season had two scenes in separate episodes that were too much for me (exploding rats and the gory death of a minor character), and the start of season four had a rather horrible horror film-type death.

However, I’m now so involved with the characters, that I’m going to keep going. Cautiously. But I’m really liking it. It’s warm and funny, and very generous-hearted.

mixedcereal · 26/01/2026 20:41

I’m a wimp and I couldn’t watch it

parietal · 26/01/2026 20:53

I’m a wimp and gave up after 3 episodes. It is not the monsters that get to me, but rather the dark backstory of some characters and flashbacks. The kids and DH watch it without me.

lljkk · 26/01/2026 21:06

I'm feeling puffed that I managed ST fine. Not quite the wimp I thought I was !!

TeabySea · 26/01/2026 21:29

I haven't watched it. My teen has. They showed me a "behind the scenes" reel the other day with Jamie Campbell Bower in (he plays multiple roles across the series), and somehow I now feel very compelled to watch it. 😚

mamaduckbone · 26/01/2026 21:36

God no!

SteviesNicks · 26/01/2026 21:56

Thanks for your opinions all.
I'm still undecided.
DC12 actually wants to watch it, but is cut from the same cloth as me unfortunately.
I thought I'd maybe watch it first, to gauge the scariness but I think it's probably not for me from reading these responses...
