I’m a wimp - will I like ‘Stranger Things’?

I am a self confessed scaredy cat.
I don’t mind a bit of gory-horror, but I don’t do spooky-horror.
Will I be able to cope with Stranger Things?
I’d like to watch it… I think 😬

There’s a few bits I was like “ewww” rather than scared, and I hate scary films etc. me and DH love it, gutted it’s finished.

marmitegirl01 · 26/01/2026 22:05

Yeah it was on the edge for me. But I just about managed.
Really cannot believe pp let their 7yr old watch it 🤷‍♀️.

Pyjamatimenow · 26/01/2026 22:07

Oh I’m a scaredy cat too and never watch horror. It’s a bit gross in places but it’s worth powering through. I think you’ll be ok. Watched the whole lot recently with dd12

Livpool · 26/01/2026 22:07

I don’t think it is spooky at all - more gory

ZenNudist · 26/01/2026 22:09

I'm a wimp and was OK with season 1 with increasing nasty flashes throughout next 2 seasons but the last one was all out horror and I couldn't sleep properly for weeks. Even now it puts me off running up a hill by Kate Bush

Returntoborrowdale · 26/01/2026 22:10

I actually can't believe someone here let their 7 year old watch it. Some of it is really disturbing- ie close ups of violence on children.

WonderingAndOverthinking · 26/01/2026 22:50

Completely inappropriate for 7 year olds. It’s rated 15! I won’t let my 9 (nearly 10) year old watch it yet.

SteviesNicks · 26/01/2026 23:00

And here I am asking for a 50 year old! 🙈

I hate suspense and watched some bits on double speed, sometimes going back to watch properly once I have an idea of what to expect if I thought it was important. I havent bothered watching the latest season though.

Nancylancy · 27/01/2026 00:11

I think the only way you'll know is by watching it and see. If it's too scary, turn it off!
I've just been bingeing it from season 1 so that I can watch the newest series with it all fresh in my mind as to where the characters are up to.
It is for the most part fine for me - seasons 1-3 have some creepiness and some gore but nothing too scary for an adult imo. but I think season 4 does get fairly horrifying in terms of gore and creepiness. But honestly the characters are so funny and heartwarming, it's gripping! I can't get enough. I think you should just try it.

fruitpastille · 27/01/2026 06:37

I absolutely loved it but I did find myself needing a cushion sometimes. My teenager rolled their eyes at me. I don't mind the gore too much, it's the tension for me. I found some of the human characters worse than the monsters. But there are so many warm and funny bits too.

SleepQuest33 · 27/01/2026 06:42

Im a massive fan! Why not try the first series and see how it goes?

MouseCheese87 · 27/01/2026 06:46

I think I watched the first 2 series, then got bored. I didn't find it spooky or gory at all from what I remember and I normally can't stand gore.

Thanks for your opinions all.
I'm still undecided.
DC12 actually wants to watch it, but is cut from the same cloth as me unfortunately.
I thought I'd maybe watch it first, to gauge the scariness but I think it's probably not for me from reading these responses...

My ds tried to watch it at that age and didn’t get past the first ten minutes of the first episode. He’s now 16 and we’ve watched it all together (I’m on my second watch, except the last season) and he’s said it’s the best thing he’s ever seen and is completely obsessed.

SteviesNicks · 28/01/2026 22:33

Thanks @mamaduckbone
I think my DC will feel the same.
