And what age roughly were you? Thanks

Probably the first hot flush. I was at work and just felt it woosh and I got hotter and hotter and then it went. Nearly ruddy crapped myself. I was around 43 I think

GetInLoser12 · 26/01/2026 15:48

Bladder issues for me, needing to wee a lot more from late 30s (not diabetic), hormonal migraines at similar time then I also had hot flushes and severe vaginal atrophy by 41.

Ebok1990 · 26/01/2026 15:50

Mid 40s. Erratic periods. Horrific flooding. Couldnt leave the house. Plus hot sweats.

I was 50 & it was the increasing gaps between my periods. Hot flushes started about the same time.

almondflake · 26/01/2026 15:53

bad temper , very low mood and anxiety at about 44 then the first hot flush at on Christmas day when I was 50 .

Dr13Hadley · 26/01/2026 15:54

Night sweats at age 40. My mum started at 40 too. I’m now 44 and still can’t get my GP to agree to give me HRT. Even though I have every other symptom apart from hot flushes in the day time. Pisses me off.

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 26/01/2026 16:00

Gum disease and itchy ears. Then tingling hands and feet. I had no idea! I was 46.

I've had almost every symptom now but strangely never a hot flush.

2026willbebetter · 26/01/2026 16:13

Around 40 and here is the list I took to the GP

  • Anger
  • Lack of focus
  • Lack of energy
  • Apathy
  • Struggle with decision making
  • At times exhausted - sleep for 9/ 10 hours and wake up tired.
  • Other times I’m awake in the early hours of the morning and can’t get back to sleep.
  • Brain fog/short term memory problems (can’t remember list of 5 things I need from the shop)
  • Pains (3/10) in finger joints evening, through night. Feel gritty. Fine in the morning. Toes too, but they’re not as bad.
  • Struggling to lose weight.
  • Thinning hair
  • Achey -

I also had heavy periods which I hadn’t linked.

Lottapianos · 26/01/2026 16:15

'I've had almost every symptom now but strangely never a hot flush'

Same! A litany of symptoms but no hot flushes

For me, it was night sweats and sleep problems - waking up at 3am and sometimes not getting back to sleep. Had always been a champion sleeper before that. I was 44

HRT has sorted about 90% of my symptoms, about 90% of the time

Theonlywayicanloveyou · 26/01/2026 16:16

Periods moving to every 20 days,
alcohol intolerance and Achilles tendonitis. I was 41.

i’m now 43 and there’s a lot of joint and muscle
pain, poor sleep and brain fog going on.

Knitterofcrap · 26/01/2026 16:17

Dry eyes.

I would have to pull over on busy roads as my eyes were absolutely running. I don’t know why they call it dry eye when it makes your eyes flood with tears, but I don’t make the rules!!

MylipstickiscalledHugMe · 26/01/2026 16:18

Age 40, I had bloating, erratic cycle with longer in the pmt stage (difficult emotionally), and I think a weird pain in my shoulder blades? I didn't think of perimenopause and it didn't occur to the GP either. I googled and got scared it was ovarian cancer (the symptoms are vague), GP laughed at me.

I knew something was wrong/different so went private for a referral then private ultrasounds which was expensive and showed nothing. They didn't suggest perimenopause either. It was only when I had my frst hot flush that I realised.

I struggled with terrible low moods but have been happy on HRT for over 5 years. Also on testosterone as my energy really dropped. It's worked well.

PlainSkyr · 26/01/2026 16:19

Poor sleep
Waking up at 3am with racing heart
Night sweats

vanillaskin · 26/01/2026 16:42

41
anxiety, panic attacks, palpitations, feeling like I couldn’t breathe unless I had a fan turned on in my face

Willyoushutthefrontdoor · 26/01/2026 16:55

At the time nothing I could really notice and mine was quite full on quickly. Was 2023 for me aged 50. Sleepless nights...my mother died just before and they started the same time. Looking back i realise probs peri. Periods stopped january. On HRT by september. Anger was off the scale at that point. Also no hot flushes for me but im generally a cold person and always have been. Though i am sweating terribly down below at night now. Deep joy! Hair thinning and anxiety. Restless sleep continues. Weight gain hit me after starting HRT. Libido is very low. Im 2.5 years in.

Dbug · 26/01/2026 17:06

In hindsight 39, but doctor kept saying I was too young! Periods going all over the place, super heavy with flooding one month then next to nothing at all the next month. Periods always now bring hormonal migraines. Itchy skin, hot flushes (fortunately I don't get them often), shedding more hair, insomnia and brainfog from about 41. Brainfog and forgetting the names for things is the worst symptom for me, so frustrating and makes me feel stupid!

I'm 44 now. Trying to balance when to start HRT as on combined pill still, it controls my endo. GP suggesting mirena coil but not convinced yet!

Bummmmblebee · 26/01/2026 17:09

35 - night sweats and anxiety, libido vanished overnight. Insomnia worsened. Weight all on my gut, wouldnt shift.

Notmymarmosets · 26/01/2026 17:20

Not having periods. I was 39.

Leo800 · 26/01/2026 17:24

Dry eyes
Dry sinuses
Vertigo
Migraines

OnionBudgie · 26/01/2026 17:27

Pelvic pain, and mastalgia, both around the age of 46. Both symptoms disappeared over time, to be replaced by other symptoms, only now stopping entirely at 56!

I’m 43 and been on Mirena for about 18 months. It’s sorted out the flooding and stopped me waking up drenched in sweat at night, but I’ve put on weight and also have a lot of discharge now (inoffensive, but more than it used to be). I’ll leave it in for another 3 years but won’t rush to immediately replace it I don’t think.

TheP1per · 26/01/2026 17:29

Weight gain, itchy ears and poor sleep from age 40 and now at 46 my periods are coming every 3 weeks.

7238SM · 26/01/2026 17:29

About 39. I was tracking my periods as going through IVF. I've always had a very regular, 32 day cycle, but very gradually it shortened. I mentioned this to the IVF consultant who never once mentioned it could be a sign of peri! 8yrs on they are still very regular, but now a 25day cycle. I have dry skin, an itchy back and poor sleep. I've never had any testing done, but assume I'm peri.

A great aunt went through menopause at 35 and a friend at 32!

GentleSheep · 26/01/2026 17:32

Very minor 'warm' flushes began at around 42 - I would have missed them most likely but it dawned on me 'oh this is the beginning, isn't it!'. They got worse over the next 5 years. No other symptoms at that point, I had an irregular cycle anyway so wouldn't have noticed!

Thesofathatwas · 26/01/2026 17:35

Thundering, banging out of my chest palpitations that came on randomly and out of nowhere.

Weight gain and complete impossibility of shifting even an ounce no matter what I did.

Weird itchy, dry and uncomfortable eyes. Drove me mad.

Around 45 years old.

By 50 I had a deluge of all the other symptoms described by others above except my periods became unmanageable, extremely painful, gushing floods lasting 6 days. Every single month on the dot.
I do not recognise myself physically or in my head.
