Anyone fancy keeping me company while I wait for the AA?

Broken down. Recovery isn't due until 4.20pm. Been waiting an hour already. Happy Monday 🤦‍♀️🙄

Oh dear - agree with @Bonkers1966, a distraction would be good!

Hope you are warm enough

Littlebitpsycho · 19/01/2026 16:30

@Kitterkitkatits getting colder! I dont want to risk turning the ignition on for heating as I'm scared if the battery drains then the hazards won't work and the position of the car means it absolutely would get hit if there was no warning its there!

Come on AA! Do your rescue bit!

Can you watch something for a little while? Music? A phone game?

Overpeover · 19/01/2026 17:06

How are you getting on? Hope they’re not much longer.

Littlebitpsycho · 19/01/2026 17:11

I'm getting quite upset now, its now saying 18.35! Its nearly dark, im alone on a country lane in the middle of nowhere - what do they expect me to do!

Hang in there. What time is your boyfriend expected? I'd definitely ask him to come after work, if only to let you charge your phone and have someone to wait with you!!

Twasasurprise · 19/01/2026 17:54

I was hoping you'd have a better AA experience than I had. (Stranded with 3 young children at night in the dark - 2 under 3 yrs.)

DH was overseas and no family/ friends that could help as we lived far away.

Thankfully not very far from home so got a taxi after a few hours as it was past bedtime. Arranged to meet them at the car the next morning after children taxied to school and nursery. RAC similarly bad for me despite being a "priority".

Smaller companies are much more reliable IME, as they immediately allocate the job to a local rescue company rather than attempt to get one of their own fleet there for the first few hours.

Hope they arrive soon!! 🤞

I usually keep sweetie snacks such as those nature jellies in the glove box plus bottled water in my car doors, in case the car breaks down or we’re involved in an accident.

I also find those little box juices of apple juice are really good if you need some extra energy. Mind you, I’m an old bugger and remember breaking down loads years ago when I was much younger and had crappy cheap cars. 🤣

Kitterkitkat · 19/01/2026 18:02

Ouch, I thought you'd be home by now. Poor effort on their side.

BiggyJ · 19/01/2026 18:14

Oh my goodness, I was hoping to read a positive update.
I’m hoping they are there now and you are going home soon. If that isn’t the case, please ask your boyfriend to come and bring food and keep you company. You could go sit in his car and get warmed up.
Thinking of you @Littlebitpsycho

Kitterkitkat · 19/01/2026 18:39

Well I hope either boyfriend or AA is there by now. Let us know, if someone has arrived let us know when you're home!

blankcanvas3 · 19/01/2026 21:13

Hope you’re okay OP?

Littlebitpsycho · 20/01/2026 08:18

Thank you so much everyone. Boyfriend really is my hero, he came straight from work (he drives for work and was miles away so couldn't have come any sooner) and recovered the car himself, after the AA told me it could be 10pm before recovery arrived. That would have been 9 hours!

What irritated me more was that they'd outsourced recovery to a local place, whose depot is under 4 miles from where I broke down - so how it takes 9 hours to come out baffles me.

Still, I got home and had a hot shower and then was so exhausted I slept like I was dead and really struggled to wake up this morning.

Thanks everyone for keeping me company, I'm really grateful and it really did help. Let's hope the rest of the week is better! Now back in my trusty 4x4 who won't let me down (I hope!)

Happy Tuesday!

Glad you got home ok. I think I'd be putting in a complaint, but I doubt you would get anywhere.

Kitterkitkat · 20/01/2026 10:31

AA aren't the fastest ferrets on the block are they? Hurrah for boyfriend @Littlebitpsycho. I bet it was nice to get home and have a drink.

highlandharpy · 20/01/2026 10:44

I'd be calling AA this morning to cancel my membership. What have you paid for? You'd have grounds to request a refund (with no expectation you'd get anything, of course). They did absolutely nothing to help you in a potentially dangerous situation.
