Has anyone just got the met office app updated?

What do you think?

I hate it since it's been updated!

I started a thread about this a couple of days ago. I hate it!
The old one gave you everything you needed at a glance now you have to keep clicking into things.
My location isn't my location so I have to click into that.
It lost all my carefully saved alternative locations in the update.
The widget is useless - again wrong location, and it doesn't give an hourly temperature. The symbols are so small you can hardly see them.
And everything is black!

I commented on the met Office FB page when they announced the new app - the vast majority of responses weren't exactly favourable!

I've switched to The Weather Chanel for now but it isn't as good.

Yes most of these were my comments too!

I too want the hourly feels like temp back. Heap of shit!

Yes!!

It's too dark, too cluttered, needs too much scrolling to find anything and someone is obsessed with raindrops. It's covered in raindrops even when it's not raining.

It has that but you have to scroll all the way down to temperature (or click through to it from other details like wind or rainfall) to find it.

You can't scroll across to tomorrow in the widget any more, it opens the app and then you have to scroll. I don't want to open the app, I just want a quick look!

I want my "feels like" back pls as well.

Hoogieflip · 19/01/2026 16:35

I'm glad it's not just me. It's awful and I'm going to really miss the "feels like" function. Do any other weather apps have it? In the meantime, I've deleted it and am giving the BBC app a try.

Augga · 19/01/2026 16:53

It's terrible
I used to have the widget showing hourly weather. It took up 1 X 4 tiles on my android. Now it wants 2x5 for the same information. That's waaaay too much space on my home screen. I've changed to the accu weather widget for now. ( And it's placing me on the neighbouring town - grr, but at least the day that's temporary). I have left feedback

Edited to say that I also hate that the widget is a massive black square. It looked so much better to be able to adjust transparency in the old app

DisforDarkChocolate · 19/01/2026 17:06

Me too, it was so easy to use before, now it's not.

Thank you!

What a sodding palaver though. Why would you update your app to be less user friendly?!

bluedancingtwiglet · 19/01/2026 17:19

ReignOfError · 19/01/2026 15:29

Mine is now blue, which is better than the black.*

But I still can’t see the ‘feels like’ temperatures through any given day. Presently the sodding little info box above the forecast is telling me it’ll feel like 5 at 9am tomorrow, with an X% chance of rain at 11pm. Dead helpful. Not.

*FFS, no it isn’t. It changes colour depending on - apparently - cloud cover. Mine will be miserable grey most of the time.

Edited

Ah the colour changes - interesting 😂 like those cat weather apps!

kelsaecobbles · 19/01/2026 17:25

YR does have feels like temp but only for “now”

Cortexiphan · 19/01/2026 17:28

They got loads of feedback from the beta saying how bad it was (and the lack of widgets) and they "updated" it anyway. They did add widgets but they're much worse. I reinstalled the old one and I'm not updating it until it forces me to.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 19/01/2026 17:32

I absolutely hate it. I've reverted to the old one.

Wait what?
You can get the old one back?
Pretty please let us know how. I woke up to this horror the other day. I didn't get a choice 😭

How do you do that??!

I hate the new version for all the reasons everyone else has said, but amother gripe is that it doesn’t show me MY location, as in, the suburb I live in, just the nearest weather station which has a completely different name.

Cortexiphan · 19/01/2026 18:28

If you're on android you just use APK mirror to find the old one. I think it was the November version.

I use the met office website rather than the app. It defaults to the new version but gives an option to revert to the old one.

@Cortexiphan err....
Any chance of some simple instructions please 😁

Bjorkdidit · 19/01/2026 08:11

Why do they do this, do they not test things that they've 'improved' and have they never heard of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'?.

The BBC weather app went crap recently too. You can't see the hour by hour weather and the location at the same time and it's too easy to accidentally scroll onto another location, leaving you with a completely wrong picture of the weather (I keep an eye on the weather for places I'm travelling to so I could have Leeds, Malaga and Aberdeen saved, which usually have very different weather).

I agree, I hate the new BBC app!

Talisin · 19/01/2026 19:38

Has anyone come across the function to switch between Celcius and Farenheit anywhere in this horror? I’ve looked everywhere I can think of but as I missed finding the Feels Like temp until someone pointed it out here maybe I’ve just not unearthed it. I suspect it’s gone though (which I soon will be as well if they don’t fix this mess).

Exactly
And then you have to do more scrolling across to see further across the day
Whereas before you could see most of the day without scrolling too much

😠

Oh you have to uninstall the new one first!

lemoncrisp · 19/01/2026 20:45

I don't like the new version but I guess I'll get used to it. I'm getting old and generally don't like change eg new phone, car etc. DH loves new stuff.
