How far are you comfortably flying on a weeks holiday.

For a week I'd be happy flying to Spain, Italy, Malta and at a push the canaries.
DH wants to go further away but doesn't know where.
Surely less than 5 hours is ok but anything longer will cut out the first and last day.

Cape Verde is fine - no jet lag!! Enjoy!

upstairsdownstairscardboardbox · 13/01/2026 23:17

I’ve been to Jamaica 3x for a week and would do it anytime :)

OSTMusTisNT · 13/01/2026 23:19

4 hours at most so Greek islands is probably the furthest. Also depends on flight times as I would want an early start outbound and preferably after lunch inbound.

I have done Cyprus for a week and thought the flights were a tad long and rubbish times.

I did do a 6 hour flight for a nile cruise years ago as a special one off. That was a pain as we had to drive from Scotland to Manchester for the flight. Wouldn't do that again.

Elphamouche · 28/02/2026 18:57

10 is my preferred limit, but I’ve done 19 for 8 days

pushmepullmewestlondon · 28/02/2026 21:58

We just did Miami - 8-9 hours - for half term (12 hours last Feb going to Orlando but changing in Charlotte).

It's the time difference/jetlag that is the killer, never the travel time. I don't mind going to bed/getting up early when on holiday but hate not getting to sleep until 3am for a week after I get back.

Tigermammy71 · 28/02/2026 22:00

New York 8 hours max for 6 nights.

piscofrisco · 28/02/2026 22:03

We just got back from 7 days in Antigua. 9 hours on the way, 7.5 hours overnight flight on the way back. Absolutely fine though would have happily stayed longer (forever)

TutTutTutSigh · 28/02/2026 22:03

I've done Abu Dhabi for 5 days. My limit on a short haul flight is 5 hours really I'd rather do 7 or 8 on a long haul plane.

Jewelanemone · 28/02/2026 22:04

We went to Bali for a week once, from the UK (20 hours in the air each way). Had a fab time but I wouldn't recommend it. 😬

DrMadelineMaxwell · 28/02/2026 22:05

I've done New York for 4 nights. And the Canaries for 4 nights too.
I usually prefer 5 hours or less for a week somewhere.

WickedGoodDoge · 28/02/2026 22:20

We’ve done St Lucia for a week, but that was a lazy beach holiday so it worked well. I’m not sure I’d fly that far for a busy holiday.

OneFunBrickNewt · 28/02/2026 23:47

Far East when my parents lived there and company paid- it felt extravagant at the time. Now it seems unreal! But I just relaxed in pool etc when I was there.

Growlybear83 · 01/03/2026 00:19

We’ve been to Egypt for a week a couple of times, which was fine because of the timing of the flights and not much difference in time zones. I went to Australia for a week for my brother’s funeral, which I wouldn’t recommend.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 01/03/2026 00:25

I’d happily do Caribbean or New York or Middle East for a week

Netcurtainnelly · 01/03/2026 00:58

No further than the Canaries.

Just don't go down with food poisoning while your there.

Oohd · 01/03/2026 01:03

New York for 4 nights and that was fine but the jetlag worse when I flew home.

Rounder888 · 01/03/2026 05:31

I’d rather do a long haul flight then short haul flight honestly, find the planes much more bareable then 3 hours on an easy jet plane. Would happily do Mexico, Vegas, Thailand etc

luckylavender · 01/03/2026 06:48

I’ve been to NY for the weekend more than once and seriously considering a week in HK later this year.

Morepositivemum · 01/03/2026 06:56

I think over three and a half hours when it’s a week can be pushing it but that’s because we’ve also had the journey from holiday stay to airport being around the hour mark

JingsMahBucket · 01/03/2026 07:40

@readingisallowed did you ever take the Cape Verde trip? 🙂

DaphneBucket · 01/03/2026 07:48

Cape Verde is absolutely awful. I’ve been to a lot of places as I was a travel agent for years and it’s one of the only two places I’ll never go back to

LottieMary · 01/03/2026 07:51

Up to 5 hours travelling -
the transfer time is inportant too. A Portugal hotel can be as much travelling as Tenerife depending where it is from the airport

RampantIvy · 01/03/2026 07:52

We flew to Boston via New York to visit New England for a week.

I did 5 days in HK. it was brilliant. Though I was in my 20s and spent the whole week drunk or hungover pretty much!
