Don't even know why this popped into my head just now, but did anyone else use to say (I'm turning myself inside out just writing this! 😂)
"Marry it/her/him then!" whenever someone said they loved something.

What other cringey things did you use to say at school, or in your youth that makes you think what the......

Upon entering the dining hall:

Beans Beans, good for your heart
The more you eat, the more you fart
The more you fart, the better you feel
Beans Beans for every meal

Poor dinner ladies.

70s Ne Scotland erm it meant something waay, waay different.

This was 90s Midlands.

I think "bumming" in the sense of quite liking something derives from that more traditional use.

So, I guess the idea is that you like something so much you want to have arsehole sex with it 🤔 I don't know, kids are weird.

At secondary school, we had a lot of words for blow jobs 😮

Bumming" for when you quite like something.

Not heard that one. Apart from the obvious meaning of 'bumming', we used to use it for pinching/nicking something.

Can I bum a cigarette?

Ponce was another one (aside from the other meaning!)

Can I ponce a cigarette?

Whosthetabbynow · 13/01/2026 13:50

“Ip dip dog shit fucking bastard silly git”. Primary school SE London 1960s. And “ohhh veeeee” when someone did something wrong

RaraRachael · 13/01/2026 15:25

To us bumming meant boasting like 'Oh he's sucha bum about his new car" or "John's always bumming about his holiday"

SushiSheep · 13/01/2026 15:44

Do they still send people "to Coventry"?

Actually, all this talk of bumming reminded me that we used to call our best friends "bum chums".😂
Girls who didn't have sex were called tight.🙁

Regarding having your fingers crossed , I used different terms growing up. I moved counties when I was around eight. Up to the age of eight, I used ‘Squibs’ but then moved, and used ‘Patsies’ or ‘Pax’.

We also used to play the Please Mr crocodile, can I cross your water? (Only if you're wearing pink knickers...!) game.

And some random clapping games-I went to a Chinese restaurant to buy a loaf of bread bread bread, they wrapped it up in a 5 pound note and this is what they said said said. There was another one with odd words-Om Pom pay ??

Om pom pee
pomma lee
pomma gasker
om pom pee
galilee

ecka dairus
said phairus
ecka dairus
puff puff

Is my best attempt at writing this one down!!!

MushyPeasAndMintSauce · 17/01/2026 15:12

Can't mate bad toe
Fuck knows what that meant.

RichardTemplethatbeatingRythm · 17/01/2026 18:23

It wasn't me😉

VikingLady · 17/01/2026 18:28

We had chinny reckon. When that got banned for upsetting people we switched to “ooh, Jimmy Hill!”

Very dated.

RaraRachael · 17/01/2026 18:51

Kids used to go up to others and say something unintelligible to them then the kid would say "Pardon" so they'd repeat it and the same thing would happen.

They were saying "Riding makes you deaf" which was very risqué back in the day. It sounds so dated now 😁
