I'm just finishing my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. The cats have had breakfast & girl cat is snoozing at the top of the cat tree, out of reach. Boy cat is sat in the kitchen window, watching the wood pigeon that's parading about on the fence 🤣.

The washer's on already, to wash the last of the things dd1 wants to take back to uni tomorrow afternoon & I have another small load ready to go in later on.

The kitchen's a bit of a bomb site this morning, so my plan is to sit for another hour or so, then potter about sorting it out. Once the kitchen's cleaned and tidied, I'll get dressed & spend the rest of the day pottering and crafting. I'm working my way through a few almost finished then abandoned projects, before I start on two new kits.

Dd1 has an assignment to finish, and submit, so that was her plan for the day. She also needs to pack the things she's taking back with her, and double check there's nothing else to be washed.

Dd2 has a couple of pieces of homework to do, and needs to spend half an hour sorting her bedroom. It's not terrible in there, so I'm trying to help her get in the habit of having a weekly "reset" to keep on top of it.

Later on, we'll have the leftovers from my birthday takeaway for tea, with a glass or two of something, then earlyish nights ready for returning dd1 to London tomorrow.

What about all of you? 🙂

Good morning @lucysmam and all. I'm currently at the hairdresser's, with my hair covered in dye. When I"m finished here, I need to head to Tesco, to do the weekly shop. DCats aren't impressed with the freezing weather and are staying indoors. Dropped DD to work early this morning - it was very foggy and frosty. Roll on summer!

Morning. Sad day for us as we lost our second dog in 18 months late last night. She was 14, definitely not right for a couple months and her breathing became laboured yesterday so took her to the vets. Anyway she was put to sleep a few hours later. My DD goes back to uni today so extra hard.
So though I have cats my reason for getting up early every day, my constant companion, has gone. I won’t get another dog, at least for a few years as we are planning a year abroad in 2027.
My kids lost their father at 4 & 6, just a month after we got our first dog, and this one too has been a constant in their lives.
So I’ll see my DD off on the train back to uni (she already didn’t want to go as doesn’t get on with her housemates), and then just sit here and stare into space. I have to call the vets about arrangements. I’ll be fine I’m not really sentimental about pets, I’ve lost enough in my lifetime, but it does feel like a chapter closing.

There are some road works fairly close to the house, yesterday they managed to cut through our electric supply, so the house is absolutely freezing, it was -9° here last night so we’re going to go over to Grandmas house and stay there until the electric board sort a generator. We do own a generator, but we have guests in our airbnb so we’ve had to set that up for them.

Once we get there we’ll probably take grandma out for lunch once we’ve warmed up a bit. This evening we’re all off to wat Zootopia 2, it will be our youngests first full film at a standard viewing so we’ll have to see how she gets on.

Have a lovely saturday all.

Afternoon all - I appear to have lost a morning! DH brought me a cuppa in bed before he went to work & I sat for ages reading a thread on here. Got up about 9.30 & spun DH’s bike gear that was washed last night. No sign of DD17 although she did reply to my text, asking if she wanted a meal deal from Tescos. I had to go anyway for pasta & it was absolutely manic! Busier than the weeks leading up to Christmas. Also got kale & spring greens for the bunnies. The dishwasher needs unloading/loading & I really should mop the kitchen floor as it’s quite muddy. Popping across to see my folks later & DBro who is staying with them. Will pop into work on the way back for straw & some wool/silk washing liquid for DH’s lambswool sweater. We also need a pvc tablecloth. I might have a 2nd cuppa & a chocolate muffin. Missed breakfast.Tea will be be said pasta with pesto, peas & grated cheese. We might watch a film. Have a good day folks & hope nobody suffered too much after the storm.

Hi @lucysmam and Co, good afternoon - I’d not realised it’s Saturday 🫣, my excuse is that every day merges into the next and I have a stinking cold to boot 🤷🏼‍♀️
A horrible icy dog walk this morning, black ice everywhere and I’d taken my YakTrax off my boots because DH said it wasn’t icy……. I was in a very bad mood by the time I got back but the dogs enjoyed it.
I got absolutely soaked walking yesterday, my newish waterproof coat isn’t…..I am tired of being duped by descriptions that don’t stand up to reality.
Any suggestions for a truly waterproof long coat please? With big pockets and a hood?
The television has packed up, an aerial problem apparently, and no one can come out before Tuesday afternoon. It really doesn’t bother me but DH is in a filthy mood, he watches far too much so I guess I need to keep my head down! I would happily do without one.
I may need gin and chocolate before tomorrow…..
At least the sun’s shining, it’s barely above freezing though but I think rain’s forecast for tomorrow onwards. Storm whatever Pret much had no impact here, thankfully.
Homemade fish pie with broad beans and broccoli for dinner.
Must go to Lidl this afternoon for a few bits.

Giggorata · 10/01/2026 13:03

Good day, lucysmam and all.

I have a pot of tea on the go and a quiche in the oven for tonight's coven meet up. I have a large plant to repot and some admin to do. And billions of those little jobs that I may or may not get round to.
Snooker starts tomorrow, so life as we know it stops for the duration…

Our Henry hoover gave up the ghost yesterday; thankfully we have been able to order another at a good price, arriving Monday morning. I feel very fortunate, as I remember when it would have been an absolute disaster and hard to afford another, rather than a bit of an inconvenience.

Outside, the sun is shining and our light flurry of snow is melting.
There have been reports of car accidents all over our rural county, so extra care will be needed driving tonight when it all ices up again. So pretty and so horrible to be out in!

We have a gargantuan macaroni cheese from yesterday, so that's dinner/brunch/whatever sorted.

DilemmaDelilah, I do empathise, having similar circumstances myself, and I hope it settles soon. 💐

Afternoon Everyone

I did start reading the thread this morning then I took ddog out for a big walk and then went food shopping.

Everyone is a bit tired after getting back to reality this week so the rest of the day will be spent reading, tv watching and hopefully a wee snooze for me!

I do need to get uniforms on. A general tidy is needed but can wait until tomorrow.

Chic wraps for tea tonight. And just general loafing about.

Judellie · 10/01/2026 18:05

I am late today! Didn't book any extra time off over Christmas so have been off this week instead; short break to London with DD and spent far too much!
Woke up to snow yet again! Unloaded the dishwasher. There was washing on the line but it was frozen solid; not sure DH and DS even looked at it when we were away!
DD is working later so had put her uniform in the wash and ran it last night, so fished that out and put it on the radiator - her start time is 4pm so plenty of time to dry.
Although the decorations are down, they're not all away so last night I had taken the lights off the tree and DH wound them round a coathanger, and this morning I dismantled the tree and put it in the box. I also took the batteries out of the candle bridge and put that away in its box.
DH keeps going off into this model railway shed with Henry the hoover but I managed to kidnap Henry and at least get the main room vacuumed!
DS went off to help take the Christmas decorations down at church and stayed out til 5.
Took DD to her supermarket job and decided to do the shop there as I had a voucher and I was there anyway. Got some brown tape as we need to tape up the Christmas tree box before it returns to the loft, and we'd ran out of both that and sellotape. I said I'd help but DH wanted to wait til DS got back.
Other than that I have eaten from our mixed tin of quality street/roses/celebrations/random other Christmas chocolates, played scrabble and ludo by myself and messed about on mumsnet/emails/x/competition website.
DS has just brought me a cup of tea and a ginger biscuit and i haven't decided what to have for tea yet; lunch ended up being sausages, cheese, cucumber, apple, onion, red cabbage and a slice of bread and butter with rhubarb and ginger jam!

Crunchymum · 10/01/2026 18:50

Another one who is late to the party today.

Back to usual swimming schedule today (DC1 and DC3 swim at similar times but we're out at 9.30am and then DC2 swims later so swimming isn't finished until 1.30pm 🙄it's literally half of every Saturday!!)

It was absolutely freezing today (we've barely been above 0c since Christmas Eve so we should be used to it) so it's was a lazy afternoon, interspersed with some homework and chores.

I let the older two make very simple biscuits earlier. Other than putting the oven on and making sure they had the recipe and bowl / scales / ingredients etc I left them to it. Was a relative success.

We had chicken thighs in pitta with salad and hummus for dinner, chicken was varying degrees of plain / spicy.

DC2 is in the bath, DC1 is having an hour online with friends and DC3 is tucked up on the sofa with me and we are watching a nature show on Netflix (something about animal babies. I'm also MN'ing!)

Nothing more planned later. DP is out as he has cousins over from NZ (they moved there a decade ago and it's their first time back in London) so he'll crash at his folks later.

Morning all. We're all just lolling about so far this morning after a tricky night with autistic DS. We're tired but in reasonable fettle. We'll get the week's shopping and there's quite a few tedious but necessary tasks on the to do list, including some work for me. Forecast is pretty rubbish, weather wise. I think we'll have breakfast - Bagels - then make a plan. DS's room could do with a big tidy and there's always work for the renovation but we're pretty shattered and the first few days of 2026 have been tough so I'm tempted just to have a very lazy, screen heavy afternoon. Started watching the second series of Patience last night and I'd like to continue with that and some knitting. Lunch will be left over curry in toasties and dinner is an Ottolenghi chicken one pot thing. No wine and I must avoid booking any more holidays to cheer myself up. Coffee now - much needed. Have a great day everyone.

Is Patience good? Have seen very brief clips

CurlyTop1980 · 10/01/2026 20:15

Happy Saturday.

I got up, had a coffee and took my son to training. We then went to the gym together. Had a tidy up, popped to the supermarket and then found out nephew is coming tomorrow and staying a week, so had to empty out the spare (dumping) room.

Just watched Spurs lose again and having an early night.

Greenwriter76 · 10/01/2026 20:30

Hi all,

After a lie in until 8am (young daughter actually slept until 7.30ish, first week back at school) we got up, breakfast, dressed etc while DH went out for haircut & to get some new clothes (both much needed!). Lovely bright frosty walk to town with DD for Saturday paper and sweets then back home where DH sat with DD while I had couple of hours in hot tub and shower / hair wash, and he made fajitas for lunch. This afternoon DH painted ceiling in spare room and I baked muffins with DD which turned out lovely so we popped one round to DD’s friend who lives nearby. DH working tonight so I’ve played with DD before putting her to bed, and now catching up on Traitors.

YelramBob · 10/01/2026 21:00

@lucysmam good to hear from you you, I love your account of your day ❤️

I overslept this morning so missed my early morning run, was woken up by the kitten purring in my face 😻 He's getting his bits cut off on Monday so I forgave him.

Went to work this morning, boss is away so I'm in charge. Was feeling a bit drained and down in the dumps but shot myself up to the gym for a couple of hours, felt amazing afterwards. You never regret exercising do you.

This time of year is shit but focusing on the spring, days are getting longer 😊 Love to you @lucysmam take care x

Tangerinesattack · 10/01/2026 22:24

@MarmaladeSandwich7 It's quite entertaining and neither too gruesome nor too gritty for a relaxed watch. The main actress is good and, as she's autistic herself, gives a much more nuanced portrayal of autism than is usual.
