It's not about him being "amusing". Boldness and unwavering commitment to your vision are excellent leadership qualities, very rare.

Edited

Pretty sure Adolf Hitler had boldness and commitment to his vision - I think ‘ the vision’ has to be in the equation and I’m not sure rampaging around declaring you are going to take over xyz without any request to do so , or the fact they haven’t caused any threats to global peace or threatened your country is much of ‘a vision’ -smacks of imperialism /colonialism . How do you feel about Starmer declaring that the UK really could do with taking over and running the Netherlands, because a fair bit of drugs ‘may’ come from there and they’ve got lots of lovely market gardening that would be nice and handy .

Excuse me? Get over yourself.

ImWearingPantaloons · 07/01/2026 18:24

He’s a crazy cunt voted in by other crazy cunts and he will be instrumental in changing the whole world order for the worse.

I loathe him and his supporters (sorry that’s two sentences)

Straight to the Hitler comparison. Kind of lazy.

I don't care enough about him to passionately defend him or argue for his every move to everyone on Mumsnet...

Yes, he is a flawed person and a crooked politician like all of them are... Yes, he is a narcissist and says some crazy shit...

He is also, in my opinion, simply not Hitler, or the devil incarnate, or anything close, but he is an easy target for those labels. I also don't believe he will 'lead us into WWIII' or any of the other hysterical things people have been claiming for years.

I actually think he's done some good. For example, he's placed a ban on men in women's sports and on transgender surgery and puberty blockers for minors.

Most people are already convinced of their own opinion and worldview and are simply not open to a good word about him. That's completely fine. I disagree, as it happens. Yes, other posters can throw the usual insults at me but frankly, like many who have heard it all for the past nearly ten years, I'm past giving af.

It was Biden who took the US out of Afghanistan and armed the Taliban with the weapons they left, not Trump.

Actually Trump negotiated with the Taliban in 2020 for US withdrawal. He excluded the Afghan Govt from his bargaining. He continued to withdraw US troops despite the fact the Taliban did not stick to the pact and were intent on creating an Islamic state. He didn't care about the women or children in Afghanistan. He is a complete and utter hypocrite when he now goes on about Iran and so is anyone who has supported him or Israel in many of their current actions. Absolute untrustworthy hypocrites.

really isn’t kind of lazy ( are you American? - ‘kind of’ is a very American expression . If you are saying bold/vision - I’m just saying Hitler was bold and had a vision - that’s not lazy thought , it’s just stating that not everyone bold/vision has a great vision or their boldness isn’t misconceived- some are/some are not and it doesn’t necessarily make them a great leader either .pretty sure Putin is bold and has a vision -does that make him a great leader-? well I’m sure he thinks he is, pretty sure lots of his former allies who have had there fortunes seized aren’t feeling quite so benign about him but don’t much fancy falling out of a window. I don’t disagree about the positive things you have said, but I’m afraid I would rather take a bit of ‘woke’ if necessary than creating havoc with world wide business , rounding people up for no good reason and world security alliances .

He is showing us how powerless the world is, apart from the US, China and Russia. That triumvirate of world power and domination is a scary thought, but maybe it's a wake up call for other nations to band together and shore up our defences.

flawed
crooked
narcissist

And a filthy sex offender. Did you forget that bit? Anyway, we all get that you think he's cool.

How avant-garde.

Why do people discount Europe? Specifically the EU plus Schengen plus the UK if we needed to align with anyone.

OK in terms of mad frothing invasion capability, not perfect. But the economy is comparable.

Europe as a bloc is significant. I think though that its cohesiveness needs to be beefed up and speak as one big united voice. Too many countries (such as our own) speak for themselves in Europe. That's the wake up call I'm referring to.

I think he can be a pillock at times, but is mostly just hilarious, bold, larger than life, extremely misunderstood, maligned, and frankly kinda cool, but I know that's not what you wanted to hear.

Hilarious. World war 3 will be an absolute laugh riot 🙄

SilentMajority1 · 07/01/2026 19:18

Probably the best President ever, and bring on Farage......after many years of governments ignoring the silent masses and destroying the western world this is what is required. When the pendulum swings so far to the left, eventually it has to swing back, and the silent majority can't wait. Of course, the vocal minority will be up in arms, the rest (majority) of us stay silent until in the ballot box.

Antaes · 07/01/2026 19:20

Perhaps if he comes to England and sort this country out from twhat we are now in ...you may talk differently ...

That's the second time today someone on here has described Trump as 'cool'. It's a very strange choice of word...

BreakingBroken · 07/01/2026 19:24

some of the concepts make sense the problem with trump is his execution of the concepts.
many of his ideas are firmly based on the huge economic debt the country is in so his actions are rather desperate and unsustainable.
my one sentence would be Disruptive, Distructive, Destabilizing.

SilentMajority1 · 07/01/2026 19:24

And here lies the problem......shout down anyone who you don't agree with, you've only got yourself to blame 🙂
