Teams and always looking at my image

Is it just me? I never really look in a mirror - just a glance up while I wash my hands. But I have come to realise that I am always looking at images of myself during Teams calls at work. I wondered how I became so obsessed about how my fringe was lying, or shadows were highlighting my lines, or whether my glasses hid the bags under my eyes, when I never used to. But I now spend at least an hour a day on different Teams video calls and so I spend minutes every day considering how I look. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed this?

I do this too!

Egglio · 05/01/2026 21:12

I also have the 'fuck me what is my fringe doing?!' moment on Teams and then I try to casually smooth it but just look awkward. My hair probably looks like that all the time, I just don't realise!

Upthenorth · 05/01/2026 21:12

Yes! I turn mine off so I can’t see myself.

BessieSurtees · 05/01/2026 21:13

I’ve noticed this too, we don’t usually look at ourselves so much but you notice all your flaws from different angles. Good bits too I suppose, though I have been particularly mortified when I join a meeting where I am the only person remote so the whole room has just me on a 60” + screen. 🫣

Sprig1 · 05/01/2026 21:14

I recommend hiding yourself for you. Saves a lot of angst.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 05/01/2026 21:14

It’s weird seeing yourself talk, looking bored and in resting bitch face mode. I got Invisalign when I first started using Teams. I couldn’t believe how awful my teeth looked!

MumIsOverwhelmed · 05/01/2026 21:16

Yes! I always say that the pandemic and zoom made me incredibly vain!

Theredjellybean · 05/01/2026 21:16

Me too

Summerhillsquare · 05/01/2026 21:21

Me too, also got braces re hideous teeth!

How?

I only know how to spotlight others (which does help)

Waitingfordoggo · 05/01/2026 21:26

I can’t bear how old I look on a screen like that. During the last 5 years I have morphed into my mum. I’m grateful I very rarely have to do Teams or Zoom calls.

Waitingfordoggo · 05/01/2026 21:27

That sounds bad- no offence to my mum! She was a lovely looking lady! But I’m just not ready to accept that I am an older woman and I look it.

How do you do that?

RainySaturday · 05/01/2026 21:40

haha! glad it's not just me. I know what you mean, though about the 60" screen moment - scary stuff.... I've also noticed that others also pat their hair and adjust it on calls. I can be seen rotating my screen and chair to avoid the sun when it creeps around and shows the laughter lines....It turns out that the bathroom mirror is far kinder than my laptop camera😔

Hide your own image, I find that best

FourForksSake · 05/01/2026 22:53

Find the face filters.

WhoamItoday11 · 05/01/2026 22:57

Same!

ChatOff · 05/01/2026 23:45

Dear Lord I am so tired and my eyes are so heavy that I thought this said, "Teams and always looking at my minge"

Dontlletmedownbruce · 05/01/2026 23:52

How do you do that?

I think...click 3 dots on your image and select 'hide me'

This is truly awful! Micro manager insists on camera being on!

usedtobeaylis · 06/01/2026 20:05

I hate Teams and this is one of the reasons. I don't think I we're supposed to see ourselves so much. I think it has a negative impact on us.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 06/01/2026 20:20

I had a brief spell of Teams and Zoom. I thought it sensible to hide myself and not appear on camera. It was very distracting to see myself (given that I rarely look in a mirror) and all that I could see was my hair beginning to give up any attempt of being straight, only to escape and go a bit wild! (It swings between looking like a windswept Shetland pony, a 1980's newsreader with a bad perm, and a combination of Hagrid and Brian May...)

It’s awkward
