Got the second cold virus since October, that was proper flu. I’m coughing loads and feeling sick and have a horrible taste in my mouth. But could do with eating. Unfortunately no Heinz tomato soup in the house

Home made chunky vegetable soup if well enough to make it (I live alone)

Heinz mushroom soup if not.

OldPosterNewName2025 · 04/01/2026 17:04

Rice pudding

maddiemookins16mum · 04/01/2026 17:05

Chucky eggs and toast.

isitmytime · 04/01/2026 17:05

Chicken and Vegetable soup is my go to it’s full of goodness and freezes well so I always have some on hand.
I drink hot diluting juice rather than tea and coffee as the milk seems to make me more phlegmy 🤢

if I really can’t be bothered it buttered toast

Raven08 · 04/01/2026 17:06

Egg in a cup...
(Choped up boiled egg, butter, salt and pepper to taste)
I drink hot water and honey

Inthewrongtimezone · 04/01/2026 17:08

I agree with the PP who suggested toast and marmite.

I think I might go and make some right now. I too have a very heavy head cold at the moment, the sort that blocks your sinuses and makes your teeth ache.

I can barely smell or taste anything, so the strong taste of marmite might do the job. Or maybe some cheese with pickled onions.

Fake Heinz style tomato soup if you are up to it- it is quick honest

  • Half onion
  • Tin Tomatoes chopped
  • Good squirt (2 tablespoons ketchup
  • Teaspoon sugar
  • 300ml Mil
  • 100ml double cream
  • Salt to season
  • Slaked cornflour

Saute onions, add tomatoes and sugar - blend until smooth add ketchup and milk and bring to boil, add cornflour to thicken then cream to finish.
Season

I'm ill atm, full of cold, cough and sore chest and a couple of suggestions so far make me want to hurl at just the thought 🤢🤢. I would spew on my shoes if someone presented me with an egg or rice pudding right now (both of which I usually love).

I think the only correct answer is - whatever you feel like. Which will be very different for different people.

Breadcat24 · 04/01/2026 17:17

St Clements- hot
Juice 2 oranges and 2 lemons sugar to taste boiling water to dilute- drink hot.

Anything with a lot of mustard or wasabi on it to clear your sinuses
Something easy to digest like stuff on toast
Anything you feel like - get well soon

I’m in the same boat and haven’t eaten properly since Tuesday. I ate 3 spoonfuls of yogurt and pomegranate yesterday and have had a few pieces of mango today. I can’t face food. I’ve been drinking lots of spiced ginger tea and Ribena.

I’ve got some cinnamon and raisin bagels that I might toast if I feel up to it later or tomorrow.

Breadcat24 · 04/01/2026 17:21

i hope you all get well soon
Please at least drink liquids as it will help get it out of your system.

If that means orange juice with a bit of gin so be it (joking)

AutumnLover1989 · 04/01/2026 17:25

I have the same bug. Not fancied anything to eat the last 6 days. Now I fancy some McDonald's chicken nuggets and a chicken mayo. So sent husband out.

sprigatito · 04/01/2026 17:26

Chicken noodle soup made with bone stock, shredded roast chicken (or turkey), Turkish soup pasta, shallots, chives, parsley and lots of spring onions and black pepper. Bit of flour slurry to thicken. We’ve all had the flu since Boxing Day and I’ve just made an enormous vat of this soup. It’s the only thing I fancy, apart from oranges and blackcurrant Lemsip Max. I hope you feel better soon Flowers

bumphousebump · 04/01/2026 17:30

Had Chucky egg breakfast and v small lentil soup for lunch….might just go and look at the soup and see how I feel. Hardly eaten anything for days. Chicken noodle soup would be good…but don’t think I can face making it. Hope everyone else feels better soon.

Cheese Souffle - wonderfully light and nutritious
Jacket potato with cheese and butter
Rice pudding
Stewed apple and custard

bryceQ · 04/01/2026 17:34

I tend to only want plain chicken breast in the oven with salt and pepper and plain rice, with a couple satsumas when i am not well.

sore throat I like bone broth

migraine plain oven chips/fries with loads of salt

I think its very personal as some things really just make you feel sick at the thought of them

mynameiscalypso · 04/01/2026 17:35

My mum always told me to feed a cold. So I’ve eaten a lot of biscuits today.

PuppyMonkey · 04/01/2026 17:36

I had had the flu last week and had no appetite in the slightest. Only things I could eat were toast with butter, cheese and crackers, plain crisps. Glass of warm milk before bed helped. Just as long as you drink loads of water, you’ll be good. I’m more or less back to normal now.

Migraines make me crave salty hot fries as well!

That soup is gonna be mighty bitter if it has 300ml of my Mother in Law!

momahoho1 · 04/01/2026 17:40

Chicken noodle soup. If you haven’t got any actual chicken in the house you can use chicken stock cubes, whatever veggies you have (I like onion, mushrooms, carrot and spinach but use whatever you have) if you don’t have noodles use spaghetti or tagliatelle, basically start the harder veggies off in a little oil before adding stock, add pasta/noodles the right amount of time before the veggies will be cooked adding extra ingredients along the way eg spinach. I season with soy sauce and add a beaten egg at the end for egg drop soup. If you have any cooked chicken add it at the end to heat through

Breadcat24 · 04/01/2026 17:41

@LoserSnoozer sorry milk not mother in law but if you can make a useful soup out of your mother in law you did better than me
