What's been your best purchase of the year?

I have 2. First is my coffee machine. It grinds the beans, so I can have a freshly brewed coffee each morning. I love it!
Second one is a prize from postcode lottery. It's a rechargeable hot water bottle, and it's been a game changer! Especially useful for when I'm cold watching DS play rugby....

Technically not my purchase as was my Christmas gift from DH, but mine would be my Tymo Curl Pro plus.

I’ve always wanted to have the option of curling my hair for the odd special occasion or night out but my fine hair usually refuses to hold a curl for more than 10 minutes, regardless of how much mousse and hairspray I douse it in, plus I have a complete lack of skill at hair styling. I’ve bought loads of other hair tools over the years. All were supposed to give amazing results but for me turned out to be total (and rather expensive) failures - think Dyson airwrap, GHD straighteners for curling, Drybar hot brush etc.

As I was struggling for any other ideas to give my DH for my Christmas present and having seen so many ads and sponsored reviews for it across various social media platforms, I decided to take the plunge and it’s honestly amazing! So easy to use, takes me no time at all to curl my whole head and with just a bit of mousse for volume and some strong hairspray, my hair is left shiny and healthy looking and the curls lasted me all night on NYE, even with me gently breaking them up with my fingers once they’d cooled to make them less ringletty (sorry, I know that’s not a word).

I’d recommend it to anyone who has problems with hair curling and wants an easy to use device that actually works. Just be aware the device comes with an EU plug (or at least mine did!) so you’ll need to buy a cheap EU to UK adapter plug before you can use it.

What was your coffee machine purchase? Am trying to find one but am overwhelmed!

I've got the Ninja Luxe Cafe. It looks scary, but very easy to use. It is pricey, but I've not bought a takeaway coffee since, so it's balancing out. Set up is very easy too

a load of seriously soft clothing to wear while I am getting over shingles. Only Cotton Traders and Cyberjammies because my budget has limits but it made a shedload of difference.

Im so fussy with pyjamas - they have to be soft and stretchy. Are these ? Never heard of cyberjammies.

They have quite a few different styles and fabrics, not hugely de luxe but comfortable and good value. I had to live in pyjamas when the soreness was bad snd change them often so couldn’t stretch to anything too pricey

Period underwear, so comfy and don't even remember I am on my period anymore during the day. No leaks. A meaco dehumidifier, dries laundry overnight in the winter

What make?

Hope you intend to enjoy your first overseas trip during 2026. We plan on Turkey and Greece in ours.

just ordered two pairs in the sale that were £56 in total and should’ve been £86!

Is it bean to cup or does it use a coffee basket that you have to move from the grinder to the coffee making part? I think my DeLonghi is on its last legs but I want something very simple to use.

My automatic car, seriously love driving it and will never go back to a manual now.

What is the make please?

gillefc82 · 03/01/2026 21:33

Would also add my Burga phone case and matching magnetic ring holder for my iPhone. Not only is it beautifully designed and lovely looking but as someone who apparently missed her true calling as an utterly shite juggler, the difference a strong, robust case makes has been massive! Just a shame I’d already managed to slightly crack the screen before I invested….

And of course I’ve got to mention my Season Ticket at Everton’s new home on the banks of the Royal Blue Mersey. As a ST holder at Goodison Park, this was technically a renewal rather than a ‘new’ purchase, but I’ll never forget the unbridled joy I felt when sat in my new seat on that sunny August day alongside 50,000+ elated Blues as we beat Brighton in that first home league game, and there was no post in front of me partially obscuring my view of the pitch!

2000 tiny yellow plastic ducks for a fiver. I hid 250 over the office on my last day at work, including in the ornamental plants in the Communal reception, the male and female loos and in the lift. My neighbour went on holiday just before Christmas and I had keys so I could go in to arrange the Elf on the Shelf ready for their return and I hid about 50 round their house too. Best mischief I've ever had, all for £4.99!! I'm going to be hiding them for YEARS.

That’s 2000 bits of plastic with no purpose that won’t degrade for up to 500 years.

Did you have successful treatment for the actual floaters? Suffering with this myself and the NHs told me too that I’d have to live with it!

I'm also keen to know about this, my floaters are actually noticable when I drive now.

I downloaded the Simple intermittent fasting app on the 18th January on the recommendation of a colleague. I used it for about 10 months and I’ve now lost 4 stone 7lb. It kept me accountable for my 16 hour fasts. Best money I spent this year, was less than £20 for the version I used IIRC. I deleted it as I reached goal and stopped fasting every day, hated having to lie to it😜🤣

Second best was my gym membership, that’s pricey but I love it and go 3-4 times every week.

I started this year in such different shape to what last year, it’s been an amazing journey and it all started with a conversation with a colleague and a decision to down load an app.

Which app is this exactly please? Is it on the App Store or just for Android? I can’t see an obvious match with the same name, there are so many to choose from, and I’d love to know more! Thanks

It grinds the beans for you to brew. It adjusts automatically to the beans you use, and wether you're doing a single, double or just filter coffee. Also has a built in milk frother, and does a lovely cold brew too. I found out the other day that I can also put fresh tea leaves into the portafilter, and use it to brew fresh tea.
It has a hot water function too. I've also used the foamer to make a lovely hot chocolate, like a velvetiser.

Sorry, should add, it grinds into the portafilter, then is moved to the water part and locked in to do it's thing.

Wow, I’d be so annoyed if my neighbours did that! Are you extremely close to them and know they’d find it funny?

Our trusted neighbours have our keys in case of emergencies and bc they sometimes feed our cat and if they did that I’d think they’d lost the plot!
