Is anyone else on a post-Christmas decluttering mission?

This morning I’ve ditched a broken pair of shoes, taken 5 electrical items for recycling, binned out-of-date food and taken expired meds to the chemist.

Small wins, but I’m determined to start January with a more organised house!

Go you! That’s a great start. Planning same from tomorrow.

ShesTheAlbatross · 29/12/2025 13:45

Me! My DDs are away at grandparents’ for a few days and I’m just marching round with bin bags chucking stuff in.

Octavia64 · 29/12/2025 13:46

Yep!

already tidied my room.
kitchen next!

ThirdStorm · 29/12/2025 13:46

Yes! Two bags for the charity shop so far!

FFSToEverythingSince2020 · 29/12/2025 13:53

Yes! I can throw things out, but I’m absolute shite at the Marie Kondo type organizing after. So we’re tossing/donating as much as possible and then DMIL is coming up in February to help with organizing what’s left. I’m hoping maybe if I watch what she does then I’ll be able to copy it and stay on top of things (didn’t really learn this adulting type stuff at an appropriate age due to trauma, and both DH and I are dealing with neurodiversity).

Is there anyone else like this - absolutely great and ruthless at getting rid of things but total shite at home-organizing so much as a sock drawer?

Boomer55 · 29/12/2025 13:54

Yep, although not a Xmas declutter. Just a long overdue one. 👍

OptimisimBias · 29/12/2025 13:56

Yes long overdue one here - I fear it could take two months though…I’ve sorted one cupboard.

tobee · 29/12/2025 14:01

I will be!

First up - sorting out old Christmas decorations that I no longer want and getting rid of them.

I promise myself this every year 😬

Forgottenmyphone · 29/12/2025 14:08

I sorted the mess under my bed this morning.

EmeraldDreams73 · 29/12/2025 14:30

Me! Well, I've tidied 3 cupboards so far, got a couple more bags for the tip and put a few other things on Vinted. Feels like a drop in the ocean tbh but I'm glad to make a start.

Livelovelaughfuckoff · 29/12/2025 14:36

Yes started with clothing because DS has kindly come back from uni with scabies and I’ve gone on a decontamination and declutter mission.

I’m self employed and have a lot of work stuff everywhere so that’s today’s focus especially the paperwork. I’m hoping it will actually make me more efficient day to day work wise.

I massively declutterred several years ago and it was life changing but have since downsized house and now need to do it all over again as we don’t have the space and it really gets me down feeling overwhelmed with stuff.

TeaRoseTallulah · 29/12/2025 14:41

Yes!

Kitchen
Spare room which was becoming a dumping ground
Hoovered and mopped

Now I'm eyeing the Christmas tree...

That is still a great start!

I’ve cleared several drawers and a shelving unit. Feels good (though knackered now and still so much to do)

TimeForATerf · 29/12/2025 15:03

Yes! I’ve spring cleaned the kitchen today, washed everything down, disposed of out of date packets, and junk in drawers.

Wovenlatticetart654 · 29/12/2025 15:08

No! Worked hard right up to the end of Christmas Eve so still wallowing in mini pork pies, discarded wrapping paper, and tinsel! And enjoying it! 😆

I started today though to get the first inclinations of a “twitch” to tidy up. I’m happily resisting it atm though!

NeedToKnow101 · 29/12/2025 15:12

Yes! I’ve cleaned inside the pipes under the kitchen sink, and decluttered the cupboard under the sink, this morning. I’m having a rest now but I’ve emptied a drawer so I’ll have to declutter that too.

notlisteningwithmother · 29/12/2025 15:16

I'll join! Probably after New Year though. I had a major tidy-up and cleaning plan before Christmas but need to get up in the loft to do the same. And the shelves above our wardrobes.
At the moment I'm trying to keep the lounge tidy with a quick runaround either evening or first thing in the morning. Once someone starts a pile of stuff it seems to become carte blanche for everyone? ( No young children in the household)

Whattheduck · 29/12/2025 15:17

We have started clearing out the garage got lots to take to the charity shop and some bits to put on Vinted plus we have taken some to the tip.We have the last bit to do tomorrow.
Also sorted out the coat rack and got coats to take to the local homeless centre plus scarves and gloves.

You have cleaned inside the pipes? That is really thorough!

Oh yes. It’s like therapy. And I have Christmas wine and Christmas sweets to help me along Grin

Choccyp1g · 29/12/2025 15:42

I've got rid of all the foil wrapped leftovers in the fridge, everything is either eaten, binned or frozen.
The rest of the house is another story, but at least I received almost nothing for Christmas except Opera Tickets (!!) and food.

The plastic ones leading from the plug hole. They smelled and were covered in gunk. So I’ve decluttered gunk 😳😅

Tisfortired · 29/12/2025 15:50

I did an Argos order this morning for clothes storage bags, a new bigger toy box (!) and some 82L storage boxes. I’m determined to get organised and have a big clear out in the process.

Raisondeetre · 29/12/2025 15:56

I’m starting Jan 3 when all guests will have left . Planning to sell the house in the Spring.
