Is anyone else on a post-Christmas decluttering mission?

This morning I’ve ditched a broken pair of shoes, taken 5 electrical items for recycling, binned out-of-date food and taken expired meds to the chemist.

Small wins, but I’m determined to start January with a more organised house!

We have been on a bit of a Swedish death clean for a while plus hoping to move in around a year. We need to tackle the books, I’m slightly dreading it. We both ended up retiring early. DH has got rid of around 200 work books, he was a scientist, sold a few and donated many. Now it’s just the personal ones. I am going to whittle down my Ladybird book collection from 1,200 to 100. Then there are probably about 500 others. We did the clothes and shoes last year, excess furniture and kitchen stuff. Also got rid of 500 CD’s.

Are you struggling to let everything go? There might be some things that are easier to let go such as out of date food in cans, expired meds etc.

Massively struggling with letting this go.

I have a sofa bed in the lounge I used to sleep on when I had no bedroom. It is at an angle and stuff to the top at the back of it. Haven't used any ring there for a year so that's my first port of call.
I would like a nice chair there instead but worry about letting the expensive sofa bed going in case dd wants to move back home. It's bloody ugly though and I would feel better without it.

The other thing is money has always been tight so to just get rid feels wrong but I have to somehow deal with this!

I managed the tea cupboard and vitamin cabinet plus the fridge yesterday. Small wins but still unwell so felt huge Grin
Two black bags in the bin!

Still avoiding clothes.

Me!!! Started it a few weeks ago - I’m doing a Swedish Death Clean even though I’m only in my 50s! 😂

It’s so liberating and I already feel that the house is starting to feel lighter and calmer. It’s been a bit haphazard up until now but I’m trying to be more strategic from now on and do a room at a time. I’m also massively reducing stuff I buy - so asked for a lot of perishables at Christmas which means once they’re used they’re gone and don’t add to the clutter 😀

Yes! I can throw things out, but I’m absolute shite at the Marie Kondo type organizing after. So we’re tossing/donating as much as possible and then DMIL is coming up in February to help with organizing what’s left. I’m hoping maybe if I watch what she does then I’ll be able to copy it and stay on top of things (didn’t really learn this adulting type stuff at an appropriate age due to trauma, and both DH and I are dealing with neurodiversity).

Is there anyone else like this - absolutely great and ruthless at getting rid of things but total shite at home-organizing so much as a sock drawer?

Me. Coupled with the fact that my husband has hoarding tendencies do i have to really force him to let go of stuff.

Decluttered bathroom cabinet, took another bag of stuff to charity shop this morning. Got more electricals to take for recycling. Once I start it is easier to keep going. I try to get the stuff out of the house as fast as possible.

Got another 2 bags for charity and got rid of a load of packaging from deliveries.

We have taken 7 bags of stuff to the charity shop already and there are 2 more in the hallway waiting to go.
