Is 14 degrees in the bedroom cold?

I think it's OK, if the bedding is warm enough? My nose is a bit cold. I'd rather it a bit hotter, but I'd have to heat the whole house to get the bedroom warmer. The living room has an open fire so that's toasty.

I love a cold bedroom

Fluffywabbits · 28/12/2025 22:41

It's freezing! My bedroom fluctuates between 10 and 14 over winter usually and I really struggle with it. Have a 15 tog duvet and 13.5 tog one on top of that to survive it.

gogomomo2 · 28/12/2025 22:41

I like mine no warmer than 16, 14 is fine

EatYourDamnPie · 28/12/2025 22:42

You’ll have some people telling you that’s shorts and a vest temp and they need the windows open for breeze and people telling you that’s comparable to the arctic and anything under 22 degrees is freezing.

We had 16 yesterday morning and I out the heating on.

Are you comfortable? Great! If you’re not, can you afford to put the heating on? If yes, just put it in ffs. If not, hot water bottle, extra layers or move into the warmer room.

BuffaloCauliflower · 28/12/2025 22:42

Yes I think that’s a bit too cold, and I generally like a colder room with good bedding

CalmShaker · 28/12/2025 22:43

Have you thought about an electric blanket?

Makemeanonymous · 28/12/2025 22:43

My bedroom is much colder than that at night in winter - no central heating on in the house and the window open.
As you say if the bedding is warm enough it's fine.

Zov · 28/12/2025 22:43

It's perfect. Any warmer than that is too much when you're in bed with bedclothes and a duvet over you. Anyone thinking it's 'freezing,' give your head a wobble!

My nose would get cold and that tends to make me sneeze. 15 minimum for me, ideally 16.

Enko · 28/12/2025 22:44

Its cold. Not perfect. I would be frozen.

Why do you ask.

I love a cold bedroom

I do too if im.feeling a bit chilly i get a hot water bottle i detest waking up in a hot bedroom. Op it is fine extra blanket and hot water bottles you will be fine.

JBJ · 28/12/2025 22:44

I don’t have any heating on in my bedroom as I like a cool room, so it’s generally 12-14 degrees at night in winter. I have a 7.5 tog duvet, plus a throw over the top and I’m always warm enough. A warm room makes me wake up with a stuffy nose and headache!

EmeraldRoulette · 28/12/2025 22:44

I would never be able to cope with that

Mine is around 20

My mum's house is absolutely freezing so I reckon hers is probably around 16

That's fucking awful. (i'm not somebody who usually swears) I hate staying there. Doesn't matter how warm the bedding is, being surrounded by cold air is just horrible.

Pavementworrier · 28/12/2025 22:45

Ideal - I struggle to sleep if warmer

MrsSkylerWhite · 28/12/2025 22:45

Perfect. Heard on the Today programme few months ago that people who sleep in bedrooms of 14 or slightly lower are less likely to develop dementia.

Coffeeishot · 28/12/2025 22:47

Oh I forgot I have a little dan heater that I blast for a few minutes if it is really cold just so i can get ready for bed comfortably.

Kickinthenostalgia · 28/12/2025 22:47

Our whole house is 14 😂 pretty sure my bedroom is colder. We have the windows open all year round, especially at night. It’s an old house so need the circulation. If we don’t the we get damp on the windows. We do close during the day at this time of year though. We have heated blankets. They are a godsend. Very cheap to run instead of having heating on and gets you toasty in no time.

Fan heater not Dan's heater 🙄😃

blankcanvas3 · 28/12/2025 22:49

Yes it’s cold, but if it works for you that’s fine. My bedroom is 20 which is ideal for us

CheeseWisely · 28/12/2025 22:50

I’m with @EmeraldRoulette but possibly affected by growing up in a house in which the toilet bowl water and window condensation would freeze in winter. We’re in a small flat and only heat the bedroom and lounge, wear slippers and jumpers and use blankets but I can’t cope with my hands and face being cold in my own home (plus have a baby in the house) so keep the bedroom at 18 minimum overnight. There’s a lot I’d give up financially before I was cold at home.

Quincette · 28/12/2025 22:52

We love a cold bedroom. Our windows are open all year round and we never switch on the bedroom radiators. We also sleep naked.

When we stay at friends or in hotels, we feel claggy and revolting after a night in a heated and/or unventilated room. I also firmly believe the reason we don’t get colds is because of our cool and airy bedroom.

PlazaAthenee · 28/12/2025 22:53

Far too cold. Mine is 22. Cold air wakes me up.

Diamondsbutnoknickers · 28/12/2025 22:54

It's a tad cold.
I like a cold bedroom and snuggling up under a load of blankets though.

Tammygirl12 · 28/12/2025 22:55

I like 17-19 personally. Could just about do 16

Isn't it strange? Anything over 19/20 during the day feels far too hot for me. I wouldnt be able to sleep at 22.
