One more week off work and I just want to get back to a routine now

Is anyone else the same? After a week off I’m sensing the children are the same too.

Yes, we're taking the decorations down today and doing a normal food shop. We still have plenty of Christmas treats in so it won't be fully back to routine but getting there. 😂

lelei · 28/12/2025 08:43

We have another full week and struggling a bit!

No! We’re just getting to the relaxing bit where we can really enjoy Christmas lounging! Still have another set of visitors to come and then NYE. The holiday is definitely not over.

We are in a routine but it’s one of lie ins and wine and chilling! Decorations will come down on NYD.

RudolphTheReindeer · 28/12/2025 08:47

Nope, I love it when we're all off and all the stress melts away. Edited to add my dc are all older though. When they were younger i felt the same.

AGreenWitch · 28/12/2025 08:47

I'm back at work tomorrow, student DS has been working throughout, student DD goes back tomorrow too.

I'm ok with it tbh.

Ugh our children are very young … lie ins are a few years away!

I wouldn’t mind having next week off work, but I know what you mean. I really don’t like the time between Christmas and New Year.

countingdowntotheholidays · 28/12/2025 08:49

I’m on another thread at the moment where we were talking about having time on our hands and Christmas being different with teens and adult DC and not the same. Whereas you sound slightly frazzled and like you have younger DC? We were all being nostalgic about how lovely it is with little ones, we should all swap for a day 🤣

Frikadelle · 28/12/2025 08:51

I was just thinking how happy I am that I've got another whole week off ahead of me. I work in a stressful full time job and I'm only just beginning to wind down from that. I'm enjoying a few quiet days, spending time with DC and getting a few things sorted around the house.

CandiedPrincess · 28/12/2025 08:54

I was so happy to be finished work but now I am a bit bored. Can't believe I've got another 8 days before work 😶

Pineapplewaves · 28/12/2025 08:54

No, after all the running about and hosting last week we’re just starting to enjoy a daily lie in, lying on the sofa all day watching movies and playing all the kids new board games. DC have Lego yet to build that they’re looking forward to doing this week. I can’t believe that’s a week gone already and this time next week I’ll be ironing school uniform and packing school bags, it’s gone far too quick 😢

CocoPlum · 28/12/2025 08:54

I'm in between. I'm very much an introvert and Christmas day/Boxing day + everyone at home all the time has peopled me out. I could really do with a few hours of no one in the house, honestly!

PersephoneParlormaid · 28/12/2025 08:57

Tree is down, wish I could throw away the Xmas food as it’s too tempting, big shop tomorrow. Looking forward to getting back to the gym as I feel like a giant pumpkin right now.

BCBird · 28/12/2025 08:57

I used to feel like that, but not any more. I would suggest making new routines. I do like routine, but not necessarily the mad routine of work.

And me; won’t happen though.

I work part time so just me and one child for much of the week feels much easier, plus the activities we go to will soon be back on.

Why did you book two weeks off work, then? I’ve had four days off in total and that’s nowhere near enough. This is my favourite time of the year. We are still not even half way through Christmas-time and it’s still fun and different.

lelei · 28/12/2025 09:18

I’m a teacher @GreyCloudsLooming ; we don’t have a choice in when we get time off.

It’s strange having DH around; if it was just me I’d probably be out with the children by now but somehow when we’re all off motivation is very low.

Yes!! Why is that?

@GreyCloudsLooming many workplaces close over the break - I took 2 days of leave at the beginning of the holiday for pre Christmas prep but we won't open again until January.

Hedjwitch · 28/12/2025 09:30

My work is closed until Jan 5th. I'm not missing the commute at all but so many days spent just with DH are becoming tedious. ( Please dont suggest a brisk walk. Its not the panacea for everything)

Snowdropskeepfalling · 28/12/2025 09:31

Honestly, be thankful you've had a rest. Not everyone has. I am working a late night shift tonight as I did last night and all last weekend. That is my 2nd job. I will start back at my full-time job tomorrow morning, 8 hours after I finish my night job. I've had 2 days off all month. I'm a single parent in my 50's and I'm knackered.. I would bloody love to have a whole week with my ds.

lelei · 28/12/2025 09:39

I am thankful for a lot this Christmas but a rest is not one of them! I have not had a single minute to myself! Every waking moment has been filled with clamouring children Xmas Smile I am getting a ‘rest’ of sorts, today when one of them has a play date. I’ll be there too but only having one child feels like a holiday 😂

I am going to get everyone out soon … I don’t want to but know we’ll feel better for it.

When we had young kids I felt a bit like you, it’s just very full on and not especially restful although it was quite fun.
Now mine are older I have a lot more
time to myself and can relax with my feet up and it’s lovely. I still get out every day because I can’t stay in all day doing nothing but when I’m home with nothing to do I can read, bake, watch telly, MN, whatever really.

WhineAndWine1 · 28/12/2025 10:05

@CocoPlumthats why I encouraged my DH to go see his family that are 3hrs away. Two whole days of silence 🙌🙌
